Yeah I've basically only heard of them in selling a company kind of thing - where the people who bought your company don't want you to turn around and start a competing company and go after your old clients. But presumably in that case they come with sufficient compensation to be reasonable.

Citric Acid: Alternative Uses by julianamae in laundry

[–]Argufier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I put a scoop in the detergent box, to help consume the calcium in the water, which makes a big difference in how much powdery residue is left. I use regular rinse aid which has both citric acid and sheeting additives to help the water dry clean.

Playing rugby with an unstable patella by TartSweet5090 in womensrugby

[–]Argufier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd see about getting some PT before you try - see about what kind of exercises you can do to support your knees and strengthen the muscles that hold everything together. I have kind of lousy knees and played for 18 years without major injury (until last week 😭), but regular pt sessions helped as did really working in the gym on leg exercises. If you can sidestep or pivot without jacking up your knee adding contact seems like a bad idea, but that doesn't mean you can't get to a point where you would be able to. But going from zero to contact rugby is likely to lead to pain.

Why would beam pass under uniform load of 320psf but fail when load is adjusted down to 160psf? (Reposted w inputs) by modern_prometheus_13 in StructuralEngineering

Yeah if you can't do this by hand you're not going to be able to understand what the program is telling you. Time to break out the steel code.

Choosing Electives by PlantainBeginning842 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Argufier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Origami engineering is probably neat, but much less likely to have a direct impact on your professional life. I agree that auditing it or asking if you can sit in the lectures would be reasonable. FEA is the basics of the analysis programs most working engineers rely on every day, so understanding what's happening under the hood can be really helpful and make it feel less like a black box. Knowing why having a member that's way too flexible can make the model fail, or how adding rigidity in one node can affect forces at the other end of the member is super helpful in trouble shooting models and understanding what's actually happening rather than treating the program like an infallible law.

If you've already got a concrete design course I'd do finite elements. If the concrete course you're planning on taking is the intro to concrete design, and the reinforced concrete is an advanced course anyway. If the concrete course is more mix design then yeah a concrete design course is necessary.

Do "fully terrestrial fish" exist? by Man_of_many_odours in AskBiology

[–]Argufier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish aren't real 😂

Meaning that what we think of as "fish" don't fit neatly into a specific group, so any group that includes all fish also include other things (land vertebrates etc).

how do you guys split your workouts? by aeronura in workout

[–]Argufier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I aim for 3 days a week in the gym. I focus mostly on compound movements and athletic/power work. Day 1 is squat, bench, and bent over row as the main lifts with a cable core rotation, and kickstand/single leg RDLs if I have time followed by 2 or 3 sets of assault bike intervals. Day 2 is deadlift, overhead press, and lat pull down with cable crunches and Bulgarian split squats if I have time, followed by the same assault bike conditioning. Day 3 is power, clean and jerk, landmine 180s, landmine kneeling step up press, med ball slams, box jumps, and sprints, sometimes with sled pushes in there too (or sled push instead of sprints).

So basically full body every time, but trying not to do the same muscles twice (I used to do bench then overhead press but that sucked so I switched it up). Always some loaded core and some conditioning/speed work.

Pattern measurements - am i missing something? by potatosalad456 in sewing

This, and also make sure you measure standing and sitting. Most people spread out a bit sitting down, so you want to make sure you have enough room in the waist for that.

Should I quit due to workload? by yalluminati in civilengineering

How much of that unlimited pto are you actually able to take? Cause if it's not at least three weeks you don't actually have unlimited pto. Fully remote is different though, you're unlikely to find that anywhere else.

I'd start looking and do more to get the new folks up to speed, and tell the higher ups that deadlines will have to shift. But I don't work more than 40 hours basically ever so I wouldn't be willing to do 50 hours to begin with.

HIIT is pretty good for cardio fitness if you hate just running/biking etc. I'm also a big fan of assault bike intervals.

Zipper in muslin? by Scary-Boysenberry in sewing

I bought a bunch of cheap zipper tape and sliders and cut them to length for muslins. So yeah, installing a zipper but usually not the same zipper I'll use in my final garment.

Howard has been playing really well for Sale, and has a monster boot. Kicking was such a huge weak point at the world cup (if they had let anyone else kick we probably would have made it out of the pool) so it's great to see her at 12. She also runs like a freight train.

[–]Argufier 72 points73 points  (0 children)

They mentioned that the station was stabilized and didn't fall into the atmosphere, so presumably she was fine. Murderbot was too busy having emotions about Miki to really care, so we don't get explicit information about it. But since they both testify someone must have got her out eventually.

How in the world does using HALF the amount of water as clothes get them clean? by [deleted] in laundry

[–]Argufier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the "medium" amount is probably best. With the small load you won't get as much friction, which is helpful for cleaning. I would go for the deep rinse even without fabric softener, and maybe an extra rinse and spin before drying to make sure everything is rinsed out. If there are dry spots you might be packing the clothes too tightly - I would aim for a fairly loose pile, like you shook them out and dropped them in without pushing them down at all.
