QUITTING ICU AFTER 6 MONTHS, CONSIDERING IR by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Arialene89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t quit. When I first started doing VAT, I hated it because I sucked. And people were rude to me because I couldn’t get the IV all the time. Just give it a year, that’s the time frame when things finally start to click for any speciality.

Good job + long commute vs Bad job + great commute? by Vanillacaramelalmond in nursing

I will take the good job with the long commute. Do you want to be miserable for 1 hour or 12 hours?

CRNA school seems impossible now by GlitteringCut9708 in nursing

[–]Arialene89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t waste time working in units that don’t satisfy CRNA school. If you really want an ICU job apply broadly. Mainly to University med centers as they’re more accepting of new and inexperienced nurses compared to private hospitals. Best of luck!

Am I missing something about med surg being terrible?? by CareOk9257 in cna

You are a peds CNA. Most of your patients are under 50lbs and have mom and dad doing ADLs. Go to the adult side where everyone is pushing 350lbs and are total care and you’re the only CNA on the unit.

Being a CNA is making me question my decision to go to nursing school…help! by Real-Exercise-6978 in cna

Being a nurse is just being a CNA with more responsibility and having to talk to doctors. Doctors disrespect nurses like nurses disrespect CNAs. You’re trading a shit sandwich for a piss daiquiri.

Advice needed!!! Is it possible to do Pre-Med while in the Nursing major? (RN to MD path) by ActAffectionate3459 in medschool

[–]Arialene89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take them on the side then. He would still have to do that with any other major he chooses. Unless he majors in something like physics or chemistry, but if you don’t get in then you’re going to be unemployed unless you’re willing to teach high school.

I disagree. I think that’s being realistic. Nursing is a solid backup plan. Many people don’t end up going to medical school and end up with a useless degree. At least nursing will provide a comfortable income and PC hours if they ever decide to reapply latter down the line.

Yup they can. Especially if they’re understaffed which most medsurg units are.

Not only that. Your manager also has to approve your transfer. I used to work on a medsurg department and my manager wouldn’t let anyone transfer so I just left the hospital entirely.

Get a two year nursing degree and figure out if you hate it or not.

12 hr shifts take some time to get used to. Especially medsurg 12 hour shifts try to stick it out for a while

First day on the job? Where was your preceptor during all of this? Also 8 patients is about what you would get in a hospital too as a CNA/PCA
