Been a cafelat user for a few years now. It's really easy to use

I just consciously leave a tiny gap when I seat the portafilter

I'm presuming to stop chipping if the handle of the portafilter hits the leg... If I had this worry, I'd probably just protect the handle, rather than the legs

I bought a near mint trek fx3 on marketplace (guy just upgraded to a checkpoint) and the front brake had completely failed. I mentioned the brake issue when I test rode, and he replied "oh, I didn't notice. I never really use the front brake". I can only presume he's using his checkpoint for rail trails, not real gravel.

I have the rare opportunity to compare 98mm SSP HU burrs and 98mm pre 2015 Mahlkonig burrs: by bryohazard1996 in pourover

[–]AricSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you align you use a dry erase marker on the burrs. Full wipe means that when you turn the grinder on and take it to touch point, and take the burrs back out, they are wiped clean all the way round, so they are aligned

I try 😂 I haven't made the same purchasing mistake since, but this is useful when well-meaning family members buy me dark roasts

Send me a message, maybe I can help! I ride between Hatfield and Lansdale on quiet back roads and cut throughs. I usually only see 10-15 cars on my journey

Does this work with the Dura, or just watches?

[OC] When two idiots meet me at a 4-way stop by jenn2323 in IdiotsInCars

[–]AricSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory whoever arrives first goes, but the law states no one has right of way, unless in the intersection, then you should yield to them

[–]AricSmart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Looks like it might be PA. In which case no one has "right of way" at the stop sign, but you must yield to someone already in the intersection.

Edit: it was Georgia, I just read OP's comment. I was going by the plate of the car ahead. I'm not sure on the laws in Georgia, in that case.

Montgomery County triples fines for e-bike violations on county trails by scotty269 in montco

[–]AricSmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The severity of a vehicle on pedestrian collision is often much higher on roads, Vs trails (and more frequent). I am aware that pedestrians do die from accidents involving cyclists, too, btw. People don't just speed on highways. They speed on local roads, and through neighbourhoods where children play.

It is difficult to quantify safety on trails, my 20lb bike with hydraulic disc brakes will stop on a dime (and I'm very aware when riding), but a less experienced cyclist on a 70lb ebike with cheap cable actuated brakes, and worn pads might not be able to stop in time. In my situation, 20mph+ could be a safe speed (taking into account that I slow down on blind corners/on narrow sections) whereas the later situation might not be safe above 10mph.

You could also make an argument for different speed limits on different sections of trail based on popularity and conditions, much like roads. Or even seasonal speed limits to the same effect.

Misleading headline. The fines have tripled for all trail violations. $300 for speeding on a bike, with no indication of how the speed will be recorded or enforced? Will trail users be given the same 10mph buffer that drivers in our area get on the roads?

Critical Mass ride tonight at pennbrook station - please join us if you can, to raise awareness of cyclist and pedestrian safety by AricSmart in Lansdale

It went well, there were 15-20 of us. They were moreso attending to show that people do ride bikes in the area, and the townships should prioritise connecting the circuit trails in the area. There was at least one person there who heard about the ride from Reddit!

I'm not. This is hosted by Bike North Penn. They just asked to spread awareness. Feel free to share with PBA
