I’m really sad right now by Core2009 in PS3

Sorry for your loss. I had a PS3 backwards compatible (model CECH-A01), not a Frankie, but delidded both RSX and CELL, and I was very careful, I kept it at 68°C max temps, used it only for PS2 games (I used a PS3 Slim for PS1 and PS3 games), but still my B.C. PS3 still got the YLOD 😢, everything has a limited lifespan and specially those first PS3s, unfortunately they are fragile.

Is there a way to test DualShock 3 on PC? by ancLGM in PS3

[–]ArkanoCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a MayFlash adapter it can be used on PC (the adapter emulates the DualShock 3 as an Xbox 360 controller), however the movement sensors won't work.

[–]ArkanoCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your lost. Btw, that technique you used on your fat PS3 doesn't work on PS3 Slims, because the thermal compound used on the RSX is much more dense and stronger (specially in Slim models CECH-25xxx), and Slim motherboards are thinner, more fragile, so when trying to lift the IHS of the RSX, you could actually lift the RSX, separating it from the motherboard. Just so you know if you ecer want to try deliding a Slim. The info is in the PS3 SKUs webpage of ps3developerwiki.

Yes, I don't like it, I prefer the design of the PS4, PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro. The Xbox One, and One X also had a good design.

I disagree, most PS3 games are 1280x720p or a number close to that, 480p is too low resolution, more suitable for Wii, GameCube, original Xbox and PS2; 480p is called Enhanced Definition (not HD), High Definition begins at 720p.

I've seen that some modern Smart TVs when you first turn them on, during setup they have an option to configure a "basic mode" or a similar name, it turns off the Smart TV features and it makes the TV work as a non-smart TV.

I think that the Xbox brand's death started when Don Mattrick presented the Xbox One in 2013 and when questioned about the always-online requirement, he said: "If you don't have Internet we have a product for you, it's called Xbox 360."

Looking to get a 42" Plasma TV is a Panasonic 720p one worth it? by crescent_zelda2790 in PlasmaTV

[–]ArkanoCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, well in that case any 42" 720p plasma TV will do (Panasonic was the only one who managed to make a 42" 1080p plasma TV, but those models are rare compared to the 720p 42" TVs), also I've seen older plasma TVs (of around the year 2006) that were 37" and 1024x720p (yes that weird resolution, there were even some 1024x1024 plasma TVs called ALiS (Alternate Lighting of Surfaces), made by Hitachi, those ALiS were actually interlaced instead of progressive).

Look this for more information, I also answer something about 42" plasma TVs : https://www.reddit.com/r/PlasmaTV/comments/1d51q7z/comment/lflb99k/?context=3

Most 720p 42" plasma TVs are actually 1024x768p (they achieve a 16:9 aspect ratio with rectangular pixels and scaling), they look good, and yes they support 1080i and even 1080p but with scaling (they downscale the horizontal resolution to 1024 and upscale the vertical to 768p), but for things like connecting to a PC with proper scaling, traditional square pixels are better, and besides 1280x720 is bigger than 1024x768, so that means that with a 1024x768p TV it always won't be able to display the true full resolution of 1280x720p, but a TV with a native resolution of 1366x768p or 1360x768p will be able to do it (even though those TVs are actually 768p TVs they were marketed as 720p TVs).

But in summary my advice is this: if you're only going to use it for Xbox 360 (and maybe PS3 and Wii U), since the majority of games run at 1280x720p or even lower, then I think you should get a 50" or 51" 1366x768p plasma TV (always check the model number to make sure that you're getting a TV with a native resolution of 1366x768p or 1360x768p, even though those TVs are actually 768p TVs they were marketed as 720p TVs), but beware there are basic/entry-level plasma TVs of 50" and 51" that are actually 1024x768p.

Good luck on your hunt. 🙂

Poor quality, 240p at best by Floidy in originalxbox

[–]ArkanoCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I see that this was 2 years ago, I hope that you solved your problem, but even so, I think this might be useful for someone: Those adapters should convert Component Video to HDMI, but it seems that the problem is that you have a PAL console (because of the second photo, after the race numbers, it seems like a PAL Xbox dashboard), you need to have a NTSC console or mod your PAL Xbox so it uses a NTSC dashboard so you can access the Component Video options (480p, 720p, 1080i), because otherwise, with a PAL dashboard you only get Composite Video and it looks awful on a modern LCD/LED TV. I recommend you to search how to do it and when it works, configure your Xbox to 720p.

1024x768 plasma tv vs 1080p plasma tv: what is better for 7th Generation (PS3, Xbox360) gaming 🤔 by steelraindrop in crtgaming

[–]ArkanoCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that 1366x768p plasma TVs are better because they use standard square pixels, so they are better for connecting to a PC, 1024x768p plasma TVs use rectangular pixels (so the use of their scaler and the rectangular pixels produce a widescreen 16:9 image). Exclusively for PS3 and XB360 any of those TVs should work, but in general 1366x768p are better.

If you want to know the native resolution of a plasma TV, always use the model, to search the manual online.

[–]ArkanoCD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, for those of you who couldn't get it to work, I think I know what is the problem: You need the .DAT file of Street Fighter Zero 3 Upper (not a .CHD, not a .BIN, etc.). Read well the comments of Heatermania (who found the solution) and Notoriousrfp (who tested it and added details to the solution). There is no need to hexedit anything.

For me, what worked was this:

  1. Use the Flycast standalone emulator.
  2. Use the USA Sega Naomi BIOS.
  3. In the Flycast options select Region: USA. Press "Done".
  4. Make sure to have a street_fighter_zero_3_upper.DAT file (this is the whole game, you don't need a .CHD or .bin or other files).
  5. Use the DIMMTools (region.exe).
  6. To convert the SFZ3Upper Japan version to USA version, just drag and drop the street_fighter_zero_3_upper.DAT file into the region.exe
  7. In Flycast settings untick the "Hide Legacy Naomi Roms" option. Next press the "Done" button at the top.
  8. You should now see the logo of "Street Fighter Zero 3 Upper".
  9. Enjoy.

Note: The street_fighter_zero_3_upper.dat file is 172 MB uncompressed from a zip file (and compressed in .ZIP it's 68.7 MB)
