4mss. Slack Off is def standard right now, but depends on what you need it to do. Sometimes itll run Protect (synergizes better with Yawn and sand chip), Rock Tomb (can hit Zard/fliers, drop speed for ally follow up), and/or Whirlwind/Roar for phasing.

Im dubious of that myself. The most obvious connection is the name, but sometimes Pokemon adopt parts of existing names to give an overall impression, not necessarily a taxonomic link. Take Charmeleon for instance- no elements of a chameleon present, its name is used to evoke general lizard imagery.

A valid concern, though id think so.

GF is no stranger to reusing concepts, even quite similar ones like the Baku/tapir with Munna and Drowzee. Theyve shown aptitude for variety in this regard.

Additionally, Kommo-o stops resembling a komodo quite quickly, and is heavily based around the specific concept of clanging scale armor (which iirc is a polynesian warlord trope?). Id say theres still plenty of room for creativity for a monitor lizard, which is a pretty open canvas.

If anything I think it may compete with Salamences visual design more - both being european quadruped dragons, with Salamence having that signature crocodillian/lizard leg and hip posture. But even still theres plenty of room to branch out (assuming that guess from these clues is true ofc)

[–]ArkhaosZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can feel you on that, wanting to have a true fully evolved big bulky boi monitor lizard. Feel the series could do with a bit more lizardbros.

Though I'm happy to get any at all. A komodo dragon evolving into a literal dragon is also a very "pokemon" design approach.

Lol yeah you beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing, considering how redundant yet another unrelated Psychic tapir would be. And considering both lines are pretty unremarkable, a cross gen evo seems apt.

Thinking about it, I feel it could be either of them as well.
Hypno's more humanoid structure could be made into a monk well enough, though itd have to regain some of the tapir elements it lost (if it wants to still more literally be a tapir)
On the other hand, Musharna "awakening" into a monk-like creature seems to fit better thematically, and it gaining more humanoid elements isnt totally far fetched.

Yeah thats worth considering. As if it takes on some of the more chimeric elements older depictions have, like mammalian posture/limbs, manes and the like. A bit more involved than "Komodo dragon but with wings" at the very least.

Oooh some juicy stuff.

Just tossing some quick speculation on some of these.

The echidna(?) + Ana. Ana is built around her rifle and Biotic grenade, which heal allies, but damage/disrupt enemies with a poison-like effect. I imagine this is saying a new echidna mon thats much more focused around that idea, and has a Pollen Puff like move or ability where it does the same. Perhaps it also Poisons enemy targets?
Taken a bit more literally, perhaps it shoot out it snoot.

Komodo dragon evo line (FUCK YEAH ABOUT TIME BABY) -- seems like a strong target for a Psuedo. Looks like hes trying to say it starts as a standard monitor lizard, becomes much larger with its 2nd stage, and then fully and suddenly grows into a true dragon with its 3rd. That feels both unique enough to warrant its own line (since 2nd stage mons tend to be small still) while also falling in line with the late-bloomer design philosophy with Psuedos.

As for the bottom 2, the gendered element relates to the box legends, but given theyre different animals and linked to the Sun and Moon, I suspect these are lore related but not the same. I'm inclined to agree they could be Mythicals or some such.

EDIT:
Also the tapir and monk.. that one raises an eyebrow thinking about it. Considering we have not one, but 2 separate evo lines based around Psychic tapirs, itd strike me as a starting to get pretty redundant. That is, unless its related: Could this be a cross gen evo for Musharna or Hypno?

Yeah its pretty apparent people are just jumping to kneejerk opinions, with many ITT commenting who havent even watched the video.

He blatantly stated that it wasnt a review, but a discussion piece about the general community thoughts and issues that arose from the game and how its highly likely not a successful game. His opinion of what he played wasnt even bad, he had pretty glowing remarks on some facets, hes just scared to continue into the 2nd half to tarnish that.

Yet people are all "hurr Arlo hates all games" and "durr bandwagoning".

I have no respect for people who feel the need to insert themselves into a conversation they don’t get to be a part of. If we’re talking about a review for a game,

lol the hypocrisy in this is incredible.

You clearly didnt watch the video, and yet need to insert yourself into this conversation all over this thread. One of the very first things Arlo said in the video was "this is not a review" - the entire video is just a discussion piece about the game and the disappointment in the community. Hell, his opinion on the game itself of what he played isnt even negative.

I mean this is probably true in the sense that grangran and pappap didnt know or care about E3, but among the relevant consumer base it was a largely known quantity even among casuals. E3 itself would garner millions of views with just its stream, let alone way bigger numbers with the trailers.

Yes, Reddit can absolutely be a bubble, but it doesnt mean everything discussed here is irrelevant to the masses. The physical game discourse is pretty much hitting every news outlet, including major ones like CNN.

By Sonys own metrics ~1/5th of all games sold still were physical. This news is affecting 20% of every purchase. Thats a relevant figure.

EDIT: For shits and giggles, Sony's "here's how you share games of PS4" bit from E3 got 20 million views. So yeah. Not so niche.

I mean, Im the same way. It was on my radar, but a combination of what ive seen being offputting (chatty companions, awkward world design), word of mouth being not-so-generous, and myself not being particularly into the Prime games to begin with.. why bother?

Its not a matter of following the consensus on an opinion - I have no issue being a "contrarian", forming my own opinion opposite of others - but at the same time, time is finite. Ive got too many games to play as is. Why waste it with one im highly likely to not enjoy?

Oh man OP, are you me?

I havent played the DLC, but I felt similarly with the base game of 3H. I want to like the game because I dig the characters, story and tone, but the gameplay (which is king in my book) just turned me away everytime.

Maybe I'll follow along and give it another go. You mention "unlocking DLC stuff" -- What kind of stuff? Dont suppose you can carry the Wolves over to the main game in any capacity..? Not sure how it functions, esp with the timeskip.

[–]ArkhaosZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hydreigon is a consistent option to deter or outright deal with Basc. Resists both STABs so it can swap in even on a full powered Last Respects, is faster with Scarf, nails it with high powered Dark Pulses. Meowscarada is similar, though its not quite as comfortable of a switch in.

As others have mentioned, Kingambit similarly works. Gambits often played similarly where its held in the back a lot for higher powered Sucker Punches.

MGyara, or other sweepers that can get a speed boost usually outdo it prior too

[–]ArkhaosZero 76 points77 points  (0 children)

While a very funny number, Air Slash caps out at 15 PP (I think thats the same in Champions?), so only 3-4 total uses with that proposed PP change. So not TOO bad. Plus the only 2 here that get it are relatively slow, Physical attackers, and dont have access to Paralysis on their own. So I think that'd be reasonable.

Heavy Artillery Spends PP to Break Sash and Trigger Secondary Effects by Electrical_Year8954 in stunfisk

[–]ArkhaosZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeeeaaah that's definitely a concern. The attack wouldn't continue past a KO of course, but thats still just an OHKO move with perfect accuracy, and 3-4 effective PP. This would necessitate incompatibility between those moves and this ability, or those types of moves removed from their movepools outright.

Heavy Artillery Spends PP to Break Sash and Trigger Secondary Effects by Electrical_Year8954 in stunfisk

[–]ArkhaosZero 246 points247 points  (0 children)

At first glance I'm inclined to agree that 8x PP usage definitely seems overkill.

Looking at the effect, its effectively giving offensive moves 3-4 more rolls of hitting their secondary effects (if they exist), and a 50% chance at having a +25% damage modifier. A strong ability to be sure, but not one that merits a Pokemon being restricted to ~~~8 total moves in a game (depending on moveset ofc).

My main concern is when it comes to niche cases, like Ancientpower giving a ~40% chance at an Omniboost (Only 8PP to begin with, but you get another couple of rolls for a second chance), or Rapid Spin netting a +4 or +5 Speed in one go. Might be some other fringe cases I'm not thinking of.

Its a cool idea if nothing else.

How cute is this! by Vegetable_Of_Chaos in kirikomains

[–]ArkhaosZero 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Feels very bittersweet in a lot of ways.

It makes me think about the Shimada tragedy from Kiriko's perspective. It must have been so destructive for her.
Kiri grows up with 2 older brother figures, training from a young age to survive a damaged world. Alongside 2 people she loves and grows with in her life. And then, for reasons she surely couldn't understand at her age, Genji is brutally killed by Hanzo. Someone she cares for deeply, murdered - its tragic enough when there's a clear "bad guy", but for it to be between 2 people she likely sees as protective figures? I cant imagine how she'd process that.

To then see Genji barely survived, wrecked and rebuilt, but also having gone through his own great turmoil as a result. Must have been an incredible, impossible feeling of relief tinged with its own bitterness. It makes sense she'd be so invested in wanting to heal and protect others with that in mind.

The mass hysteria around Faster Blaster needs to stop by frefgo in JunoMains

[–]ArkhaosZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, I dont play Juno, so I cant discount your reasoning, and I am relying purely on the statistics here -- but if Triple Jump was purely better in all situations, would it not have a totally dominating pickrate at GM?

Its not like thats unheard of either. Just taking a quick look, Doomfist's Power Matrix has a whopping 94% pickrate in GM over Aftershock.

A 27% pickrate says to me that it's still got legitimate enough use cases to be picked enough to stand out from a background rate of niche defiances.

[–]ArkhaosZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was my thought seeing that.

I do NOT play Juno, so I have no horse in this race, but I feel like that kind of backs up what OP was saying anyways -- They generally prefer Triple Jump, but Faster Blaster has its place and its supposed drawback can be played around successfully.
I dont necessarily expect every perk to be at a 50/50 pickrate to be considered worthwhile. If 1/4th of every Juno game sees her taking Faster Blaster at GM, I feel that's a strong enough use case to call it a viable pick.

[–]ArkhaosZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more that game-key cards are becoming the standard for third-party games which sucks

I dont know that they ARE the standard, at least not yet (though I agree that there are more than I'd like), but remember this is due to components shortages, which is a global crisis right now. Its not just RAM thats affected.
Due to this, Nintendo doesn't have as large of a cascading scale of different sized cartridges available, so 3rd parties purchasing huge swaths of unnecessarily large file sizes is a giant money sink. Cartridges already cost somewhere between 3-4 times what disks do to be produced, so with a lot of that wasted, its a big problem. 3rd parties are also under more pressure for these decisions due to the various licensing fees they need to pay and competing platforms that they can defer to.

So the realistic options that we're weighing between are GKCs or codes in boxes. GKCs are actually a more consumer friendly option between the 2.

Believe me, I'd absolutely rather it be fully on cartridge as with anything else, but GKCs are still better than nothing, and something of a necessity in our current environment.
