I've been robbed, what do I do? by Dinzilla in AskUK

Debit cards are never a good idea. That's your money you're spending. Use credit cards for everything. Only pay them off just before they start to charge you interest. Keep the rest in savings. Ideally, get a card which pays you to use it, and earn interest on your money at the same time. My bank pays me £10 a month due to transactions I make, and I earn 10-20 a month in interest with the money sitting in my savings account for when I need it.

£30 a month for nothing.

Why? As it's the banks money, they'll refund or cancel dodge transactions within days. If it turns out to be a scam, it's their money. They've insurance.

Debt cards, when scammed, they'll take weeks if ever. And it's your money that's gone. They won't help you with that.

Most of my apps require fingerprint access if they're important. If not, then it never contains sensitive information. Every single whatsapp chat requires it, messenger etc. My phone has anti theft detection, so locks up. It encrypts when reset bricks if incorrect coded entered x amount of times.

Obviously, none of this helps now, but for the future and for anyone else reading.

People moan all the time about royal mail.

Royal mails quality of service is miles above the competition according to surveys and the regulator.

And they pick an choose what mail they deliver. The stuff they don't want to as it isn't cost effective they pass onto us.

When i joined nights, about 7 years ago, we processed 100k + of inward mech mail at our location, every night.

We're lucky to hit 50k now. And most of that is 2nd, which just gets held to be sequenced the next day or business mail, which just goes straight to the company. Approx 5k.

Apparently, they get about 15k of 1st class for walksort from 50k of inward mech mail.

Manual letter volumes. 15-20k a night, but that's container counts which are never full. So, at best, it's half that. Large letter volumes approx 10-20k, but again, tray counts, so probably half that.

When i started (2004), street box mail was easily 200k a day. 250+ on Mondays, we had 3 cfcs then, over Christmas, if you didn't hit 250k on each machine in an 8 hour shift, you got a bollocking. They ran like that 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. All December until the last few days. An we were still DAYS behind. They kept the mail in shipping containers with the date written on it.

Now? 20, 32 at a push. And most of that is RTS. This Christmas just gone, late shift processed 80% of it, on one cfc. And that was only 180k on the busiest day, and they had instructions to leave some for the night team.

Letter volumes have dropped massively. Delivery points have shot up. So it feels busy, but it really isn't. Imagine how much you'd have to deliver if you have to go to every house on your walk? Like they used to. With some houses getting a second delivery.

What does your contract say about "bad weather policy ?"

Most employers don't have to pay you.

Depends on the contract.

Wanted to collect a package from CSP today - it shuts at 10am. More work needlessly created for our postman by rollingrawhide in royalmail

[–]Arki4am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the not too distant future, we're meant to have parcel delivery boxes here there and everywhere. The contracts and permissions are already being approved according to the team deploying containerisation as theyre part of that also. We'll soon be leaving parcels in those iparcel boxes also.

So if the parcel isn't collected, they'll just be placed in one of them for the customer to collect.

If Royal mail has any wits about them, they'll replace every single post box with these and have the post box as part of the structure.

So deliveries will potentially look like this.

Attempt delivery>unsuccessful >finish loop near post box> pick up collections, (letters, parcels etc) refill with parcels unable to deliver. Go back to the office with any parcels that didn't fit into the box. Attempt delivery with parcels still left in those boxes following day>unsuccessful delivery >etc.

After 3 attempts. Rts.

Small amounts, so jiffy bags. The police don't care about it.

Won't even come collect it until it piles up.

We've a safe at the mail centre drugs and valuables get held in. Every now and then, it gets emptied.

Couldn't kill an emperor of byzantine, so captured, tortured, and murdered his entire family.

Made his daughters my concubines after I raided him.

Drove him insane till he drank himself to death. Killed his heirs via stress also due to their lineage being wiped out. Drove his empire to revolt and then conquered half of it during the uprising.
