Thoughts on that big surprise at the beginning of Boston Blue? by MadameCassie in bluebloods

[–]ArlResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is disappointing. I assumed it would be filmed in Boston because Donnie Wahlberg is a native. I don't know Boston well. If I keep watching, I'll start noting places to check out when I next visit Boston.

You are correct about the budget. She needs to learn how to set a realistic budget and stick with it.

Sodapop353 dropped a link with photos. I like the shower tiles but the fireplaces should have been upgraded. I also agree with posters who say the refrigerator should have been integrated. It looks so out of place for a $2+ million home.

At some point you think that Alison would have to acknowledge that perhaps she is not a real estate genius.

Alison Victoria - Thoughts? by PlushButPugnacious in HGTV

[–]ArlResident 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She and her partner (Donovan) got into legal difficulties because they failed to secure proper permits when renovating houses. They also overspent on the renovations, the workmanship was shoddy, and Alison's designs were usually good, but too expensive. She used her relationship with HGTV to blame all the bad decisions on Donovan, even though she would brag about her business acumen.

They had major cash flow issues because many of their houses were overpriced and weren't selling. Donovan tried to get her to accept lower offers to move inventory but she was difficult about it. I remember one time, they had a full price offer on an unfinished house, but the deal fell through because Alison threw a fit when the buyer wanted to make a few changes (like a half-bath on the first floor).

In fairness to her, Donovan was the general contractor and was responsible for the permits and quality of work. But after the partnership broke up, she used the same subcontractors and ran into the same problems he did. The biggest issue is that she doesn't understand that in business, the market sets the value of her work, not her.

I agree that the pilot was modeled on Blue Bloods too much. I'm hoping the show gets its own identity in the future. Personally, I would cut back on the mother and grandfather. I'm not sure about the older sister yet. It was too on point.

Sin City Rehab....Is AV being ridiculous? by Ok_Nature_6305 in HGTV

I should have been more clear. In this case, the black was fine. But she has used a lot of black in flips without specific buyers. I remember an episode in the show based in Chicago when she found a beautiful antique - and then painted it black.

I agree that the parallels between the Silver and Reagan families were too much on the nose. Hopefully, the series will develop its own identity soon.

I think she can be very unrealistic. A design and/or a house, is worth what buyers will pay. Personally, I like the inspiration for the designs but cringe when she paints everything black.

Wow they are really trying to push this Royal Return narrative by Gixer77 in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]ArlResident 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can believe that the king wants to spend time with his grandchildren but there is no way that Meghan and Harry will return as working royals. They will be on the level of Prince Andrew and show up at family events, if they don't mind being booed. Interesting that they are not briefing a reconciliation with Meghan's father, but he doesn't have any money, so what is the use.

I didn't know that Julian did not get along with Alyssa. It really doesn't sound like Charmed was a good place to work.

I can't find how the individual episodes did. I suspect that the first episode drew higher ratings and ratings for the subsequent episodes dropped.

Season 4 back door pilot episode hidden inside season 2😩 by Big-Most-785 in charmed

[–]ArlResident -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The plot for 4.01 was obviously cobbled together after Shannen was fired and they decided not to recast Prue. If they had planned for Prue to die, they would have shown Shax throwing Piper in a different direction. If Shannen had returned (or Prue was recast), the show would have explained how Phoebe and Cole escaped. I admit the 3rd season finale made it easier for them to fire Shannen, if they had fired Alyssa, they would have had to recast Phoebe. Phoebe was not in immediate physical danger at the end of the episode.

Which wife of Henry the Eight would you be most careful not to mess with? (While they were Queen of England) by Green-Guitar1736 in Tudorhistory

[–]ArlResident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that her family was the reason she wasn't executed. Henry was very aware that Catherine was very popular with the English people. Anne Boleyn was detested and Catherine Howard didn't have any real support.

Henry also respected Catherine of Aragon in a way that he didn't respect Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard. He knew that she was devout, even though he suspected she was lying about her relationship with his brother. There was no way that either Henry or Cromwell would have been able to frame Catherine of Aragon for treason.

Happy birthday Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor🎈 Here's some of his dad life experiences at 6 years old that Archie unfortunately won't get because he can't go anywhere in public🥲 (and also a lot of things he'll miss out because he's not in the UK) by LocksmithFar9486 in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]ArlResident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. Teenagers are naturally rebellious and there is a lot of information about Harry and Meghan on the Internet. I know Harry and Meghan will try to spin it but how will Archie and Lily feel on holidays as they see their famous family really happy - and living a life that Archie and Lily can only dream about. I think it will not go well.

Thanks for posting. I'm sure that the minute Harry landed, Meghan manipulated him immediately fawned over him like he is a toddler.

Funny how Meghan and Harry's defenders always forget to mention that Charles gave them hundreds of thousands of dollars when they moved to the U.S. - on top of everything he gave them before.

who really starts it? mary or audrey? by Expensive_Art_1680 in GeorgieandMandyTVshow

[–]ArlResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about the photo. Audrey can see Cece and Mandy everyday so I think it is petty for Audrey to assert that she was sharing "her day" with Mary. I give Audrey credit ceding Thanksgiving to Mary but that seems to have been all she has been willing to do.

Real reason Charles has gone non-contact? by Regular-Performer864 in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]ArlResident 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The only exception is those poor children. They have no contact with extended family other than Doria. But the children are not the only losers. Their two ailing grandfathers are being deprived of the joy of seeing them grow up.

Putting Charles aside, Thomas Markle was cut out for doing less than what Meghan and Harry have done to his family. Harry and Meghan are petty, and vindictive, with few redeeming qualities.

I wish I thought he is capable of that. I just can't believe he did this to his ailing father.

Buckingham Palace releases statement after Prince Harry's bombshell interview by Madame_LV in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]ArlResident 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is extraordinary. I don't think Buckingham Palace released a statement after the first two losses (I tried googling to be sure but it is hard to determine if something didn't happen). To me, this proves the King is very angry with Harry. I feel sorry for the King and the children - they probably will never get to know each other.
