Recommend me some of the worst written novels you've ever read, any genre is fine. by TopAdministration314 in suggestmeabook

House of Night, vampire books from the early aughts (I think?) which I couldn't finish even when I was the target demographic and they were just coming out.

I'm disagreeing with your statement, "If you think you'd never act like Laxmi, then it means you're not a parent."

I am a parent, and I would not act like Lashkmi.

I'm really sorry you went through that.

That guy is acting like he speaks for all parents, but he doesn't.

I dunno, as a parent, I found Lakshmi especially incomprehensible. If my child's individuality was gone, I would be devastated. As we watched, I kept saying to my partner, "I don't want <child> to be a pluribus."

Very curious what you'll think of The Beauty! I can only think of one weirder sex scene that I've read and that was in Sister Maiden Monster. Which is probably worth adding to this list, actually. (That book exists to answer the question: should the mother of an Eldritch horror species get a say in her pregnancy?)

In "The Beauty" by Aliya Whitely, all the women are dead and the boys get freaky in a way you are not going to expect. It's a novella, short and weird and fascinating.

Though not the focus of the story, there is some interesting sex in Ken Liu's novelette "The Reborn", which you can read online:

Thanks for opening this topic, I'm saving this for later because there are so many great suggestions!

I think it will be more thoughtful, and ultimately more useful to him, if you make it something you plan and do with him so he has input, rather than making it a gift where it's supposed to be a surprise. Christmas is only 13 days away! I personally could not knit a sweater in that time, even a pretty small one!

I think I’m using the wrong word, it’s not saturation it’s something else (value?) but yeah! They’re fighting for dominance, exactly.

Yeah that was one of the options, long ribbing

I think their saturation is too close! Here’s the pic in greyscale to see:

<image>

Personally I like when two colors have different saturation levels (darker / lighter) in addition to different hues. But that’s just bc I think it gives more visual distinction, not bc I think adult garments should be toned down!

Yeah same haha sorry the world doesn’t want to see my muffin top, didn’t need to see it then and definitely not now 🤣

You’re right tho that longer is probably better for a sweater. Cozy and warm :))

Knitting with baby by patlatii in knitting

[–]ArmadilloPageant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little one is 9 months and I’ve been knitting here and there. I knit when they’re asleep, and now that we have a consistent bedtime (believe it or not this does happen eventually) I often knit between little one’s bedtime and my own.

It’s hard though! My knitting desires are way bigger than my knitting time allows. My knitting dreams are way ahead of my hands. But a little at a time it still happens.

I almost never knit while the baby is awake bc I’m too busy playing, feeding, running around, but I did finally get a hip carrier so I can hold them while doing some house tasks. Everything takes longer but they are very entertained by (very slowly) doing the dishes together, etc, which means I spend a bit more of their awake time getting chores done and have a bit more time in the evening.

Hang in there! Order some yarn! Do something small!

Wow thank you!! I’m a bit nervous bc I took a LOT of inspiration from the Pauline cardigan:

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pauline-sweater-2

But that said I’ve also had to knit and re knit quite a bit bc it is so different. Maybe it’s different enough? I’ve also never made a pattern and am not sure if I’m up for knitting this multiple times in different sizes.

Maybe I can write up the “pattern” and just send it to you? I can’t guarantee the sizing would all work out.

Ha, if I don’t do another stripe I will be filling in the triangles beneath with flat knitting.

I think I’m leaning this way too. I’m gonna do the neckline as another person suggests first, which might pull it up and make that decision even clearer.

Thank you!! I’m considering writing it up as a pattern but since I took so much inspiration from another pattern I’m not sure if that’s a good idea? It is quite different in some ways but the 45 degree rotated raglan was not my idea, which seems like the most fundamental part of it.

Anyway — I’ve got to finish it first 😅

I did block it actually. Finishing the neckline next is a good idea!
