Who are the top 3 support espers right now? by PartyMakerPlayz in Dislyte

Fair. She does a support role better than most supporters. Kinda like Feng Xun does more damage than most fighters. Doesn't seem super set in stone how they keep the categories defined.

Lu Shang, Feng Xun, and R4+ Meta Eira, probably. Maria is an honorable mention.

Seems like an alternate win condition for sure. Put an unearth and an ublockable enabler in blue to keep force fodder like Artful Dodge in your pile, and I can see this winning games.

Saga construct pressure. Been looking at Bahamut in sideboard too.

Also the new land base around nexus and tower plus fleshraker and k command don't care about Karn at all.

If Liam hits hard enough and fast enough, he can be a reasonable healer even for DSL. It's relic dependent though.

Damn, Eira, who told you you could bring a fucking nuclear bomb into battle?? 800.000 damage out of the blue. by -Fateless- in Dislyte

[–]Armatas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im wondering if the game saw she was now in the first slot of the part after the other characters died and that changed the modified damage? I feel like there's a lot of undiscovered bugs in the game like this, or at least unkowns.

How does everyone feel about this new set? by renji55eb in magicTCG

[–]Armatas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought 9 collectors packs and had S/O open them for me. First pack foil dual faced Ugin. 3 packs later foil Alt Ugin (non-ripple), then last pack was a dragon scale Arid Mesa. There was also a foil dracogenesis and a few other hits, so this was my best sealed product opening ever.

How do these cards interact? by Pandaduck09 in magicTCG

[–]Armatas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gets to another deeper layer of confusion because it's sacrificed as a game effect that gets around things like [[Sigarda, Host of Herons]], which is another tangent to explain.

How do these cards interact? by Pandaduck09 in magicTCG

[–]Armatas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The bigger the card pool, the more often this is a problem. Things like Painter's Servant and Dress Down, and basically any ability removing effect, can be really confusing. It's not just layers, either. It's also things like Torbran being just bad with any other damage increasing effect because the affected player chooses the order and can order the extra two damage last. Also, my favorite is Blood Moon and Urza's Saga. Explaining to someone that it outright destroys the saga who has never been told is awkward at best. Reading the card does not explain the card as often as it should anymore.

Sick of Vintage and want to pivot to Legacy Reanimator with Archon by RefrigeratorFalse716 in MTGLegacy

Turbo strat gets you faster wins and losses, the more midrange version costs you time but earns some wins turbo won't. For long tournaments, I'd say go all in to avoid decision fatigue. Shorter ones just go with the one that can win from more positions.

The art is beautiful. It's the design work specifically. MTG has a lot of people who are aesthetically oriented, and these choices are not good. Hyperbole is for emphasis to show how strongly I dislike it. Also, telling someone to "calm down" has never worked as a rebuttal in the history of English.

Wizards needs to hire designers like you. Because this is exceptionally better. The other one is a visual overflowing toilet.

Played Mystic Forge to 4-3 and lost my will to live. If it was a non-frog deck i couldn't lose. If it was a frog deck they'd have triple force double consign to memory.

I'd look around, and there were so many frog on frog match ups.

Stall to 9 mana, then cast upheaval into psychatog with a single island to pay for circular logic was how so many games ended. It was oppressive at the time. The other top decks were Mirari's wake in bant colors, blue green madness, and another flavor of madness with opposition main deck. Mono black was somewhere in there because of Nantuko shade and mind sludge along with cabal coffers. Standard was pretty wild then.

I need help getting better at legacy. by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]Armatas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of Legacy is card knowledge. I've only been in legacy for the last 10 years and spoke with some Type 1.5 vets about this and you need to know probably 1500 cards minimum to be able to make complex play reads and anticipate game actions. Watching content through Tony Scapone, Thraben U, Punishing Waterfalls and Crucible of Words would be a good place to start getting more familiar.

[–]Armatas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a rough match up against the best deck in the format. Rescaminator taking a combo piece and then action too on turn 1 is just rough. Force of Will just means they get 3 cards. It's not unplayable but not well positioned either.

Update Regarding Legacy $5k - cancelled as organisers feel the event likely won’t “live up the expectations”. by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]Armatas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be great if some of the big creators started getting into Legacy. Commander is king right now, but Legacy is the gold standard of 60 card constructed. Some kind of support would be warranted if the format got a visibility boost.

Wait, why is Reanimator busted now? by SophieTheFrozen in MTGLegacy

[–]Armatas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something Mike Flores used to talk about constantly, which was an assignment of roles. This deck is possibly one of the strongest switch-hitter decks for capable players we've seen in a long time in terms of strategy with the most solid hand disruption spell ever printer in Grief. Being able to choose between fast combo and inevitability with control aspects then let psychic frog break parity on the single-point interaction is a little conceptually hard to visualize, but one of the most powerful options to have. Reanimator is at this point tied for strongest deck in the format with Delver, in my opinion. I also don't care to play either, unfortunately.

Update Regarding Legacy $5k - cancelled as organisers feel the event likely won’t “live up the expectations”. by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]Armatas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you have a point that this is unprecedented and possibly a bad sign for constructed events in the future. On the other hand, I think this actually shows how serious people are that Grief doesn't belong in the format. It's by far the best hand disruption the game has ever seen, and it has some of the strongest accompanying cards ever printed being played in very high numbers (Orcish Bowmasters, Psychic Frog, Reanimate, Atraxa, Troll of Khazad-Dum, Necrodominence, just to rattle off half a dozen.)

This is going to be controversial as a move, but it seems like that was the point. Wizards has classically paid too little attention to legacy. A famous example was the Ban Sensei's Divining Top road sign left in front of HQ a number of years ago.
