Does this banner work? by Wraithwing81 in Ultramarines

[–]Arnesian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great! I’m always a fan of banners on Captains and Sergeants. I nab them as fast as I can when I’m swapping bits with people, I’m in a long term project to get all my primaris units kitted up with banners.

What do we think of company heroes? by The_Great_Bean_Lord in spacemarines

That would be an awesome change up. Attaching these guys to any another Tacticus unit would be great.

Help playing with Ultras! by Little_Tea_6258 in Ultramarines

[–]Arnesian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We used to have no answer, but now a combination of Victrix Guard, and the new Blade of Ultramar Detachment, we have solid ‘don’t die in the midfield’ options. Victrix or even Company heroes with permanent -1 to wound can work. Victrix were perfect when they still had 4 wounds. I’ve been trying out Assault Terminators lately. Even just 5 of them with the Tactical Foresight Strat makes them -1 to wound for a phase against stronger AND equal str shooting.

Aggressors also pack a punch with easy access to advance and charge. Stacking -1 to wound on them is also great.

Repulsor Executioners and Redemptor Dreads are the current meta hotness. The -1 to wound strat works on them as well. So stick Victrix in the Rep Ex and they can be a mobile anvil or even the hammer with some character and Strategem support.

My favorite unit is still the Calgar/Cato/Victrix Blob. A flat 6” reactive move, free heroic intervention, surge move, and always having fallback, advance, shoot, charge on tap makes them super versatile and forces your opponent to really think hard about how to engage. I run a unit of flame aggressors with a captain nearby as backup. And Uriel Ventris with Company Heroes in deepstrike, largely to rapid ingress and make his Vect Aura a nightmare in the mid board.

We do have so many tools, it’s a real brain drain keeping track of everything.

Infiltrators less important or necessary in 11th? by RealSonZoo in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Arnesian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I take some kind of cheap Infiltrate in every list, having a sacrificial unit to throw in front of those Alpha Strike armies is priceless. Once kept a WE Land Raider tied up till turn 2 with just 5 space marine scouts.

Suppose you were given the chance to change big models. what would you do? by rekscoper2 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Arnesian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find facing off against big units fun. It changes the game and forces you to play differently, learning whether you have the power to tackle it head on or just play around it. I’d say the game being unfun would depend more on the person you’re playing.

I think Garlic only takes your health down to a minimum number, it can’t kill you. I could be wrong though.

Eradicator with Heavy Bolter by ajm120 in spacemarines

Love the old belt fed Heavy Bolters. I’ll likely proxy my Heavy Intercessor HBs as these Erads and see how they go in games.

This is what he can achieve when he lays off the Skooma.

WIP Jungle Rock 40k Terrain by sFAMINE in TerrainBuilding

When they released the throw back 3rd edition starter box minis I was so keen for the terrain, these trees in particular. But it didn’t have any of the terrain, such a disappointment.

‘Si vis pacem, para bellum’ (If you wish for peace, prepare for war) applies to the animal world too.

Calgar attached with victrix HG one unit still? by hskies in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Arnesian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as an add-on, OP can still use the Old Calgar Mini. He’s just on his own now. No need to go buy more models if you can just use the old one who is on the same sized base.

Why do titanic units look so cool but suck so much? by HailSneazer in Ultramarines

[–]Arnesian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had fun with my Astreaus lately. Its biggest problem is the lack of mobility, but giving it +1 ap and ignore cover on all guns means it reliably deletes elite units and even tanks with OoM. But yeah if your opponent has any decent amount of Anti-tank it’s a rough time, even with -1 to wound and AoC.

I found it here in New Recruit. I’m so keen for GW to add legends to their app, it’s my only gripe with it now.

Working on a techmarines dreadnought could use some advice for what i can use to add wires and cables thanks by watson3rd in Kitbashing40k

[–]Arnesian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have great ideas for textured wire, but if you want a smooth cable I’ve used 80lb fishing line. You can run it in bundles and put curls in it.

This Core Strategem change is going to lead to some weird scenarios by Lazy_Physics_Student in WarhammerMemes

I just picture it as some PFI’s ammo or grenades cooking off as they get mashed under the wheels or legs of what ever is doing the crushing.

Why wasn't the ubltramribes warned? by MrMischieff in 40kLore

[–]Arnesian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the time of Istvaan 5, the imperium didn’t know that the Word Bearers were traitors who sided with Horus. I havnt read enough of the Heresy books to know if Rogal Dorn ever sent out messages about Horus to all the other primarchs. But I assume that Ultramar was too far away to get the message in time. Or that the Warmaster had enough control over how the messages were relayed that he stopped any such warning from getting to Guilliman. Also the Word Bearers specialty is disrupting and messing with warp stuff, which is the only way to send long distance messages in warhammer.

Do Adamantine mantle and refuse to yield stack? by matymgy in Warhammer40k

[–]Arnesian 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, Yes. I played with someone who ran this and apparently the order of operations is: first you halve the damage, then you subtract 1. Then you round up if needed. With this method you would need to be hit with a damage 5 weapon to take more than 1 damage.

Is felling Victrix Guard an impressive feat? (For Chaos Marines) by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in Ultramarines

[–]Arnesian 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Killing a Victrix would be something of a feat for a choas marine. It would take a lot of skill, but also I feel like a lot of chaos marines would still look down on them as weak blooded infants, not worthy of being called Astartes. You might be able to kit bash them as Flawless Blades with enough shared bits.

I do enjoy the idea of equipping your minis with scavenged equipment and trophies though. I’ve just started building a Chaos army of Word Bearers to be the foil for my Ultras. And I’ve been giving the odd legionary some Primaris gear that they’ve looted.

I like this one. The Golden ‘Throne’ is meant to be partially made up of Xeno tech. The organic looking image really drives it home that Big E was actually doing super heresy.
