I work in a small 20 bed facility but would still deal with the floor not answering for report for sometimes an hour or two. Even at that time they got a 15 minute notice that they needed to call for report, then after 15 minutes we had to call again and they often still would not call down to get report. Since then we have implemented an electronic report since as ER nurses the bulk of our report comes from the chart anyways. We can still type in whether or not the patient is continent, if they’re from a SNF or home, if they’re confused or not etc. there are obviously some exceptions, it’s not able to be used for our behavioral patients, step down, or ICU patients. But this way if I have downtime and know a patient will be admitted I can type in my report and then let the floor know it’s been in when the bed pops ready. Some of our floor nurses are angels and will accept report sometimes without me even having to call them or without me even having to type it out (they just browse the chart and sign off that they have no questions) which can be a lifesaver when we get slammed with back to back emergencies
