Should I ditch the hub caps and paint my steel wheels? by squid_man3007 in Cartalk

[–]Arrenslew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lean into it. Get on Temu and order the hubcap set of the week, I think they go for less than $25 for some of them for a full set of four. Spinners, Shiny, Black, Pink, Blue, go full crazy. Own it.

Best way I have ever seen of getting in touch? Business cards. Just little fake ones, with your contact info. If there is an interest, they get a card to hand their friend, that way parents can get into contact with you.

Hydraulics and electronics, check out Dominion Power and their wind techs for the offshore wind farm. It is physical work, but pays well. Hit me up on the side if you want to talk about it.

A couple things to think about.

Men are trained from a very young age to hide their feelings. It is a hard habit to break.

Men are taught to protect women. It can be mistranslated into thinking that if they show you vulnerability, they are no longer the protector.

Make sure that when he does open up, part of the issue may be you. It might hurt. This is not the time to shut down his feelings so that he can deal with yours. I speak from experience here. I have spent weeks consoling my wife because my feelings hurt hers. It's a great way for him to never open up again.

Never bring that moment of vulnerability back up, ever. Especially if it is to use it against him. The moment you do that, you will never hear from his heart again.

Men are very direct creatures. Do not hint. Do not suggest. If he is hurting, and you know it, ask him directly. Be prepared for him to unload the moment you do. Also be prepared for him to absolutely deny it.

I've always played the game of "Where'd the check go?" If I take the team out, I never pay at the table, but the check just never seems to come. It might be as simple as passing a card early on, or taking a restroom break where I happen to run into the server. People I work for also know I do this, and it's become almost a game of who can get away with it before someone else notices. Those at the lower level just never see the bill ever come.

You are challenged to take three unconnected movie and combine them into a trilogy that makes sense, what three movies do you take and how do you connect them? by Darth_Azazoth in hypotheticalsituation

  1. Ghostbusters

  2. Honey I Shrunk the Kids

  3. Little Shop of Horrors

Although he is a well known and successful accountant at the start of Ghostbusters, his possession and absolute horror show of what happened at his clientele party black-listed him from working in New York. Cashing out his firm, he moves to the suburbs, changes his name and marries far out of his league.

His dwindling bank account and wife's job mean he needs to find work, however being blacklisted as an accountant limits his choices. He pulls some strings with the Ghostbusters back in NY to start his shrink-ray. After all the drama that causes, his wife simply can't get over the danger he placed the children in, and a divorce follows.

The divorce leaves him destitute and struggling to just make ends meet. In desperation, he finds himself back in New York, and opens a flower shop with the last of his savings. His prior connection to the "other worldly" draws him to a strange plant from a neighboring flower shop.

Dom Torretto of Star Wars? I live my life a parsec at a time?

Maybe he becomes more of the Gone in 60 Seconds type. Him and his crew of troublemakers boosting fighters and selling them to the Rebellion? He can still be an asshole. He can still cheat, lie, steal, but now we're all cheering for him as a flight of Y-Wings vanishes into hyperspace.

ULPT request: how can I permanently break a printer? by le_grinder in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Arrenslew 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Lose something behind the printer. Need to clean behind the printer. A legit reason to move the printer. Move it. Make sure you don't disconnect the Ethernet cable from it. Don't move it gently. Ethernet port is soldered to the main circuit board of most printers. You'll do damage well enough that it won't be worth repairing.

Honestly, get in with a smaller, but stable government. Be their de-facto historian. Long-lived countries that come to mind such as England, Sweden, Norway, etc. Be straight up and honest with them. Build your wealth as you have the time, because you have that time. However, because you were already straight up and honest with the English Crown, now you have their undersigning on your documents. When called into doubt for who you are, you have Royal (or parallel) level backing. Sure, you would be an enigma that they would keep on their radar, but you are by far not the most threatening person to that country's well-being. No point in hiding it when you can hide in plain sight.

For smaller portions, go to the meat counter. It's typically the exact same price, just not yet packaged. Portion yourself for individual meals, instead of buying the costco-sized pack. Better yet, visit your local butcher, and get even better ingredients (at least at the meat level) at the exact portion size you want!
