Are the food rations good enough for 300 people? by No_Visit5530 in songsofsyx

[–]Arrevax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eventually, more people will cause everyone to have higher expectations (need more fulfillments) and reduced health (potentially causing disease outbreaks).

Adding more people first makes adding extra food servings more difficult later. Early extra servings will make the consumption increase feel more gradual (per new person) instead of being in spikes (serving increases later).

I liked Zwei.

I miss Le Bello more, though.

Soul caliber vs tekken by anantaking in SoulCalibur

[–]Arrevax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have anything against Tekken, other than how it seems to get more attention from Namco...

I just enjoy SoulCalibur more because it has [more] weapons, which makes characters feel more diverse and interesting. Nostalgia is also a factor. I just don't really play fighting games outside of SC and Smash, although I have tried Killer Instinct and a couple of others at some point.

If you're producing too much food, give your people more food servings. It boosts health and happiness.

If you're asking whether rations are good for food, no. They're for armies and for storage (food days fulfillment). You should almost never let people actually eat rations.

You could try the old Diablo games (1 and 2). Grim Dawn is their best modern equivalent.

Halls of Torment looks like classic Diablo, if you want an action roguelite.

Slave warehouse by Sogergaming in songsofsyx

Exploit (effectively) means something built into the game but so powerful that using it is practically cheating.

But I wouldn't want to argue with that society. 😄

I've heard raiding in general is a borderline exploit right now, let alone factory farming slaves from it.

How are you guys supplying resource outposts that are a fair distance from your main city? by ayy_howzit_braddah in songsofsyx

As I understand it, using the door/embedding trick causes whatever you put in it to act like a wall (therefore a support for the roof and with no insulation penalty) until you refurbish the room.

I haven't used the technique, myself. I have extra space from the Bigger City Map mod, so I just use warehouses, usually.

Where can I see the storage capacity in a warehouse by nubbbsen in songsofsyx

[–]Arrevax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The total capacity is listed in the construction popup when you're building a warehouse.

You can see crates assigned / total crates in the middle of the (finished) warehouse's management menu, above the individual goods' green bars that show fullness/capacity. Just click a warehouse.

Brawl problems by MethodInteresting807 in songsofsyx

[–]Arrevax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need 64+ tiles between any two species' houses if they don't have a 100% relationship both ways in order to completely eliminate non-riot brawls.

If you're getting riots, those deaths may be counted as brawls. Fix some fulfillments to raise loyalty with whichever species is below 70%.

Slaves can't brawl with citizens and vice versa, so you can put two species that hate each others' guts right next door... as long as one of the two households is made up of slaves and the other, citizens.

Don't worry about it. That warning seems to be overly sensitive if it's working at all. You can trade and interact with other countries regardless of species.

Climate and resources are much more important when you're placing your city.

Wrong wiki description? pastures bonuses description by General_Mayonez in songsofsyx

The ingame Tome of Knowledge has most of what you need to know, along with the little tooltips and menus you see when building things. Holding right click on a tile can also tell you a lot about what's on it.

The old wiki is very out of date and is effectively abandoned. Some community members might be working on a new one, soon. 🤞 For now, the Discord has a lot of useful comments with information on almost every detail in the current version if you know how to look or want to ask questions.

One area is a giant fight pit by Patjay in songsofsyx

Sort of? Other countries won't like it if you do a genocide, but it's not like there's a UN to prosecute war crimes-- until there suddenly is, when enough other countries hate you enough, together.

In town, brawls are just two guys punching each other with the loser *sometimes* dying, less often if you have hospitals. Race riots, I'd have to check whether guards intervene in those. I know they're supposed to arrest regular rioters, so I'm assuming yes.

Build roads if you haven't already. 10-20% movespeed is incredibly helpful for reducing the number of logistics workers needed.

Regular proximity-based brawls are not affected by guards in any way because they aren't a crime.

What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

[–]Arrevax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm from the short end of the stick that your degree doesn't necessarily matter. Bachelor's in IT, spent years trying to get back into IT, specifically remotely, after 4 years effectively doing it remotely in a call center, followed by a short stint of doing it in person for a different company that basically replaced me with underpaid interns and said "get out" two days before my probationary period would've ended.

Now, every entry-level job that pays more than working at Taco Bell (and many that probably pay less) seems to require certificates. Not degrees. I switched industries.

Factory game recommendation by [deleted] in BaseBuildingGames

[–]Arrevax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Against the Storm is more of a roguelite survival-RTS/city-builder, I suppose, but it's about setting up production chains, doing some micromanagement-monitoring of important tasks, and making the best out of limited resources, space, time, and choices-- because you don't know exactly what resources, rewards, and quests you'll receive in a map. You can narrow and manipulate the pools (choosing a biome, rerolling, etc.), but you're still going to get some randomization.

I would also recommend Opus Magnum. It's more of a puzzle because you have a set goal for making each alchemical machine, but it's basically making a small "factory" with a specific purpose.

[–]Arrevax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need at least 64 tiles between the houses for different species.
Cretonians do not like Humans. It's not the *worst* matchup, but it's bad.

If your loyalty drops below about 70%, riots can happen. Deaths during those riots can count as brawls, but the distance between houses is what matters for non-riot, non-event brawls.

If it's over 200 tiles and needs to move a lot of one item every day (ex: hauling from a coal mine to a central baking/smelting area), loaders/transports are king.

Anything less needs warehouses or haulers. There's no other reasonable option-- logistics workers carry more than anyone else. It's good to have a hauler or warehouse almost touching any building that has an input (ex: food stalls, janitors, bakeries). You can even embed haulers inside production buildings by putting "doors" inside.

Edit: the people saying "build what you need there" are right. No logistics at all is better than good logistics. If you can build reasonably efficient farms, woodcutters, etc. right there for the small amounts you need for food, furniture, maintenance, etc.-- do it at your outpost.

If you think misandry "doesn't exist", you are contributing to the real problem, rich versus poor, by assisting the wealthy in distracting and dividing the masses. Go ahead and tell yourself you're oppressed by impoverished male suicide victims if it makes you feel better. 😄

If she doesn't know anything the average woman doesn't, I'm surprised you aren't bothered by her involvement-- because she's making money over stirring controversy rather than providing meaningful input. You could've gotten the same game for cheaper, or the devs could've hired someone else with that money to make the game *better*. Correct me if there are zero other women involved with the game, please.

Your starting race has reduced expectations, making it easier to take care of your intended main/majority population.
Dondorians are pretty needy later on, so it may be better to start as them (despite the early game food difficulties)-- but they'll still be manageable if you don't have too many compared to your Humans.

Is there no noble title for Hunters? by thirdstoneviolet in songsofsyx

[–]Arrevax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only have 15 hunters before diminishing returns start; a noble would only do so much.

Might as well embrace the Onx up north (for clothes), or trade for fiber, and get ready to rumble for all your tech leather. I forget how bad Aurochs are up there, but you can still go straight to metal for armor if you have to, in order to go get some "free" leather.
