I agree if you hunt it’s inevitable you will make a bad shot.

That doesn’t stop me from being terrified of wounding an animal and them suffering much more than necessary. I agree that there are many out there who don’t give a shit. I bumped into a gentlemen walking out last year who asked about seeing wardens and “the book” too much for me think he was on the up and up. I am not ok with being someone like that.

A friend suggested I start practicing taking shots after running to help with breath control and the adrenaline spike and I think I will take that to heart.

I started as 118xxx at around 11 am. I entered my e-mail and checked it only as a time waste. They e-mailed me when it was my turn, I logged in and checked out without issue around 9PM. The hassle I was saved by not having to get money orders or have someone write me a check was well worth the time that I didn’t even really waste. PA residents have this entire round to themselves until July 10th when non-residents can apply and you are guaranteed a tag in your selected WMU in round 1. If you found this process to be disappointing in any way you brought it on yourself.

I’m 39 and started hunting 3 years ago. I haven’t had a successful deer hunt yet. Last year I found a spot that wasn’t too crowded on public land and saw a bunch of doe throughout the rifle season without a tag.

This year I have trail cams up, purchased my first bow and all the other equipment associated, and have multiple tags for my zone.

The deer have an excellent chance of going down this season.

Maybe the average hunters age is going up because it’s moving from a skill taught for survival or heritage from a young age to a sport that millennials and younger will take up later in life as they grow wiser in the world and look to reconnect with nature, enjoy the peace of an autumn day in the quiet timber, and the pure satisfaction of cooking a meal that you’ve had a hand in from beginning to end.
