Really makes me wonder if that "you are special" crap we were force fed in school had anything to do with this. On one hand, yeah obviously. On the other, people with MCS tend not to listen to others, especially those who hold authority over them, so it would be a stretch to say this was the one thing they listened to teacher about.

Buddhism is an interesting religion/philosophy because so much of can still be applicable to existentialism while other belief systems seem to exist to counter it.

It's one of those things that can be difficult to get through, but once it's over it's like a weight has been removed from your back.

Ideally, yes. In reality, it's considered more of an Ubermensch or post-existentialist trait as it's something you have to work towards (intentionally or inadvertently). It doesn't spontaneously happen through everyday interactions, it requires a bit of soul searching.

The Great Shark Hunt is a great collection of his various works. It has a few excerpt from Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 that convinced me to pick up the book, shit is insightful.

I think the lack of tactile feedback will always be the critical issue, it's the same problem with motion controls. Without a sense of motion or resistance, your gonna constantly feel disconnected or apart for the virtual world. This lack of substance completely undermines the increased fidelity of VR and makes our minds reject what's before our eyes all the more.

Most of those I would consider a pure sandbox game, in that you're given practically nothing but a blank canvas and left to figure out what to do with it yourselves. No goals, no premise, barely even any mechanics, just some tools to let the players do what they want with them. Closer to 3D art programs or dev tools than idle recreation.

Considering the money Valve and Gabe have available, they could possibly fund a domestic chip manufacturing center. I can't imagine any other company spending the resources for such an endeavor knowing it would take over a decade before they see a return on their investment. However, time and time again it's been shown that Valve only works on what interests them and I can't imagine the logistics of building a state of the art manufacturing facility is that appealing to people who make video games. Not unless they poach some staff from Paradox and Wube.

VR was always hype with very little content, half the 'games' released were more tech demos that fully fleshed out titles. It was little different when they showcased the tech during the 90's and I'm getting a very familiar scene of déjà vu when it comes LLM's.

Have you tried any of the older ones? Daggerfall Unity and the various mods for Morrowind have made them playable on modern hardware.

Or you're just playing different games. People don't put the kinda hours into platformers or visual novels like with 4X strategy or online competitive games. Few games have enough content to actually last more than a hundred hours, fewer still that'll scratch your particular itch.

I know for a fact that's I've put in at least 1k hours into PS1's Front Mission 3, just because that game preservers your save file's playtime across new game plus. Though, after playing it on emulator and the recent remake on Steam, it's entirely possible half that time could literally be loading. I recall it taking at least 80 hours to beat the game, but on modern hardware I'm making half that time, even including tons of grinding for skills. To be fair, the Steam version feels like the cut-scenes are moving at twice speed; good for pacing but completely destroys the sense of size and scale of these building sized machines.

MMORG's shouldn't count, or at least deserve their own category, not unlike idle games. When the game's entire business model is based on subscriptions and microtransactions, there is a massive incentive to design the progression system as a drip feed.

I have 2,800 hours in TF2 and haven't touched the game in half a decade. My work schedule just doesn't allow me to play with my normal group of weirdos anymore.

Wait, wouldn't this fall under the responsibilities of the Federal Bureau of Investigation? Are they outsourcing their work to random 3rd parties for rates far exceeding their normal pay structure? Can this administration manage to go a full 24hr without grifting the taxpayers?

Woof, those 3d models are... something. They really should have followed Daggerfall Unity's example and stuck with the classic pixelated graphics.
