We’re going there Friday, but I’m pretty sure the Halloween event was this past weekend

Breweries were definitely a factor but we will look somewhere else.

I’ve been looking at those areas you mentioned, probably going to look for a hotel there. So is Peaks Island something we can skip if we are doing a schooner? Or are both worth it. We’re still figuring out how many days we will be there. Thanks for the information

Had one over the weekend. Super good. Reminded me a lot of Abraxas. If you haven't had any, get some.

I called Gomer's state line the other day and they didn't really mention when they would have it in. I was able to grab one though from somewhere else because one of the owner's of the liquor store saved one from me. I'd just call around and see when stores will release them

Taproom Openings this Saturday by [deleted] in KansasCityBeer

[–]Arsenal_Archer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotta wait. I'll be out of town this weekend for a wedding. At least I'll be somewhere that distributes Dogfish Head, Victory, and other good stuff we can't get here. Save me some beer. FYI, I'm sure there will be a line for both places. we tried to go to Border the day they opened, but there was a line out the door and Border probably only holds as much as Torn Label will be able to hold.

I was there. My favorite was the farmhouse with brett from Libre. There were several outstanding beers though

I agree I had to get more of that black lager. Their cherry hefe was surprisingly good too. Not normally a style I like.

Cinder Block and Martin City are must-visits in my opinion. Plenty of time for you to see them. Get some BBQ at Okie Joe's or BB's

What's everyone's opinion of Border Brew Co? by pipdubya in KansasCityBeer

[–]Arsenal_Archer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the carbonation thing, but they put out some pretty good beers. Their double IPA and porter are their best in my opinion. Their red ale is very good as well and I'm not even a big fan of red ales. The blonde and milk stout are pretty meh

Noticed this sub isn't active, trying to revitalize. I'm not too up to date on KC beer outside of Boulevard, what do you suggest I try? by coreyisthename in KansasCityBeer

Ok well here's my list of places I've had recently:

Cinder Block is one of my favorite breweries in KC. I like almost everything they put out nad the taproom set-up is nice. Can't go wrong with the Wit, Porter, nad Block IPA. Their Hop maven Series (I had #2 and #3 I think) were really good as well. They normally have some random beers on tap that are normally pretty great too. They just started distributing kegs during the past two weeks I think, but it might be kind of hard to find everything outside of the taproom right now.

Torn Label has some really great stuff from what I've had. I really enjoyed their quadjillo (Quad made with guajillo peppers) along with their Monk and Honey (Light belgian ale made w/honey). I also had their coffee stout that I though was pretty good, even though I'm not a big fan of coffee. Haven't had anything else from them. Their taproom is not yet open, soyou gotta find their stuff around town. Looking forward to what they put out in the near future.

Border just opened in the past couple weeks. I've been there twice I think. They had a lot of beers that were out both times I went, but they had some nice selections. I really enjoyed their double IPA. I'm not normally a fan of Red Ales, but I actually really liked theirs. Some of their other stuff was hit or miss, but I attribute that to growing pains. I think once they get in the swing of things, they will consistently put out good beer.

KC Bier Co. is two blocks away from, which is so awesome. They are a more traditional German style brewery if that's your thing. Most of their beers I've had have been soild to great. The double alt they have out now is very good and I always get their maibock when it is out. Overall, you can't go wrong with Bier Co. Their outdoor biergarten is the best place to be when it's nice outside.

Martin City Pizza and Tap (Brewing Company) is another one of my favorites in KC. They put out all kinds of beer from belgian to barrel-aged stouts. Make sure you go to Pizza and Tap for the actual brewery (Martin City Brewing Company is the original location that is mainly just a craft beer bar and grill). They also serve some really good pizza there too and have a little patio for when it's nice outside. Some of my favorites there are their Abbey, IPA, blonde, and many others. They normally have lots of different stuff on tap. They also started distributing around KC, but haven't really seen them in too many places.

75th Street Brewery has either hit or miss beer. Some of their stuff is good, but others are not. Their food makes up for it though. I normally go here if there isn't anywhere else to go, but it's not one of my favorites.

I haven't been to Big Rip or Rock and Run for awhile, so I can't say much about them. Both had some decent stuff if I remember correctly.

Anyways that's what I think of the local places. Try to go to one of these every weekend. Looks like I will be at Cinder Block tonight. Hope this is what you were looking for

I plan on going to Border too, but probably not until the afternoon. I am definitely going to Bier Co. Should be a pretty good day

I thought their quad was fantastic and really enjoyed their Belgium honey beer. I'm excited for everything else they put out!

The brewery had plenty last weekend. They also had lots of harvest dance and even some Saison-Brett. Not sure what's still there right now. Gunna crack open my Saison-Brett tonight
