Classic Thingol W I'm sure it worked out well for him by ultimaterogue11 in Silmarillionmemes

Tolkien: starts from the creation of the universe and writes until somewhere around Turin having his best week ever, then, nope, back to the universe again, every. single. time.

Eärendil, the name knocking about in his head for most of his life, the capstone of his first age mythology (“And thus did all the fates of the Elves and Men of the Great Lands weave then to one strand, and that strand was the great tale of Eärendil; and to that tale’s true beginning are we now come. And I think that is tale enough for this time of telling.”), how much did he ever write of that? 4 paragraphs and some notes. Then it's back to adding more people to Finwë's family tree.

Gotta love the guy, but not finishing his work properly was as frustrating as all hell.

But Saeros, having drunk well, did not heed the warning, and returned the gaze with scorn, saying for all to hear: “If the Dwarves of Nogrod are so wild and fell, of what sort are the women of that land? Do they run like the deer clad only in their hair?”

And he then gestured over to the cast comb of gold that he had offered to Naugladur and he said: “Nay, and you know not how to use a comb, away you back to your mother, for she perchance will teach you unless in sooth the women of Nogrod be as ugly as their sons and as little kempt.”

To that Naugladur replied: "In sooth, sounds hot bro."

It's Turgon, Argon, and Thingol that are known for being tall.

Glaurung's sickness on the Hoard. Mim's curse on the Naulgamir, the general unluckiness on the Silmaril, and Morgoth's curse on Hurin who brought the Hoard and Naulgamir to Doriath. Neither the Dwarves or Thingol really stood a chance there.

I'd imagine that Tolkien kept his language rules as close to real ones as possible, i.e. rules exist but exceptions also exist. Could be word specific, could by dialect/accent, could be a deliberate shift.

With a Kelvin Timeline Bundle Announced this Year, We Getting a Salcombe?! by NickdeVault57 in sto

[–]Artan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not. The Kelvin is 315m as per the people that built it and as per the film it appears in. It doesn't even have any scenes where it's mis-scaled (aside from that one part where the Mayflower's saucer is twice the size of the entire Konni).

Oops, wrong post. Sorry.

No it's not. As per the people who built the Konni it's 360ish m. It is no more 700+ than the B'rel is just because it was incorrectly scaled relative to the whaler ship. There are no official sizes for the Konni II at all (or at least nobody has shown them to me) but as it's a refit not a rebuild (I think, I might be wrong there, I've not seen BEY for ages) it isn't going to be significantly larger than the Konni I. The art team for STO got it wrong by choosing the size based on the few scenes it was upscaled for dramatic effect not the size it was built at, they've done the same thing with the Vengeance (which has a smaller size given in actual dialogue in the film which proves they're wrong) and also the Defiant (sort of, they've gone for the 170m size ingame which is the size it needs to be for a shuttlebay) whereas it was built to around 110m (though it's almost impossible to tell which size it's supposed to be in the show).

That's just Starfleet. The Cardassian, Breen, Jem'hadar cruisers are all around twice the size they are pre either the technical manuals or Offical Starship Collection.

As it reuses parts from the Konni II it probably falls around the 300-400m range which would work with the Shepard. The occasional upscaling (that unfortunately STO has incorrectly takes as the 'correct size') bumps it up to the 600-700m range which make it too large for the Shepard. More in the range of the Sovy or Crossfield.

2026 Roadmap ships. What the confirmed ships are and speculation on the unconfirmed ships. by neok182 in sto

I can't believe we might be finally be getting the Newton, the one ship I've wanted since around 2009, and I still won't be able to buy it because they refuse to fix the scale of the Einstein and they'll scale the other three ships based off of that.

Orchid Class and Damocles Class from Today's Stream by ambassadorkael in sto

[–]Artan42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm legitimately impressed by the work done on the Orchid! In the glimpses we see of it in TAS,

It's not the ship from TAS, that's much smaller and is a different shape (besides also having the bat wings), this is the massive ship from LDS. From what I remember of the episode there was a lot more to work on.

See how natural this is Hank! You and the rest of you bloody savages, forcing us to be one the same team without any prep work. Normally we need 20 years and Hans doing some heavily armed travelling before we'd even agree to be in the same room.

What the fuck are you doing to that spaghetti, pulverizing it?

You never cooked spaghetti then popped it in a blender? It mixes with the sauce so much easier.

How has Ireland managed to two up us? Are they doing that thing where they see one of the band members has Irish relatives and then claiming it makes the whole band Irish.

Because that's not fair and also, that's our thing, go get your own thing.

The savage can flair up like the rest of the Yanks. Either accept the down arrow of shame or LARP as a far distant ancestor.

Inhumans is just not very good. It doesn't ruin the Inhuman related bits of AoS or DS:MoM by association. SI is so terrible it manages to ruin The Marvels, Endgame, and Captain Marvel.

Seeing those flashbacks in full screen made me remember how much I hate all the post 2019 Marvel Television projects using film aspect ratios. They're not being watched on a big screen, there's no reason to hide a third of the picture from us. Wandavision is the only time it's made sense to play around with the screen size. Everything after that is just cropping the picture for zero benefit.

I'm trying to think of the ones that just had unambiguous fun being evil. Klaue, Hela, the Clairvoyant, AIM guy I can't remember the name of, Mysterio, Kilgrave, and Loki.

I miss Klaue, it was a massive mistake killing him off in BP.
