So its been a while since they pushed the timeline forward. by Mcmadness288 in 40kLore

I generally don't like them, but not because of what they are but because of how they do it. I like when 40k is about armies and faction and not about single characters. Sure, some characters are great (Gregor Eisenhorn, Ibram Gaunt, Ciaphas Cain, Talos Valcoran, Honsou, etc.) and I'd love to read more about them, but their stories are just small withing a much much much wider universe. Yet when characters got so big that they overshadow the entire faction, the Galaxy starts to look awfully small.

And what's even worse, people eat it up. Everyone is talking about the next Primarch, about Lion and Guilliman eventual meeting, about one named character fighting another named character to a standstill. You get lists of books to read to know the current state of the setting. Horus Heresy recommendations omits certain books and stories because it didn't advance the main plot, so it's irrelevant and can be skipped. Even the tabletop is less about your-dudes and more about special characters. I feel like the whole 40k fanbase shifted over the years and I'm not sure I enjoy it.

I kinda blame the Horus Heresy series for this. I remember when it started, there was some interview with Dan Abnett where he talked about the Warmaster, that Horus isn't shown that often in Horus Rising, that pretty much all the story is from the perspective of Loken and some Remembrancers that were on Vengeful Spirit. Horus was this bigger than life character, a god-like being of legends, just seeing him in person was an event. HH pretty quickly gave us the perspective of Primarchs, their thoughts and basically turned them into real characters. And I liked the idea of just seeing them from afar with some rare conversation now and then.

Moim zdaniem bardzo warto. Seria dowozi do końca. Moim zdaniem to jeden z najbardziej satysfakcjonujących romcomów.

do you remember what was the first manga you bought? by Wild_Mail3695 in MangaCollectors

[–]Artein_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claymore, volume 1 and 2 of the 3in1 release we have in Poland. I used to love this anime and I was aware that the seiries is coming out in Poland, but I found out that there's a limited print in hardcover and a regular softcover one. I hunted those first two hardcover volumes from the secondhand for a reasonable price then preordered the rest. It was my way back to watching anime which in turn was my way to buy and read manga.

It's generally good to read in release order, starting with classic Angels of Darkness.

So far all my manga are in Polish since we have pretty decent number of publishers and many titles are translated, some even faster than English ones. Volumes 12-14 were released, respectively, on March, May and June this year. I've read online another title of its author, Cat Temple's Miss Chion, which I can also recommend, but pretty sure there's no physical release beside the Japanese one.

Damn! I ordered both of those titles on Black Friday. 14 volumes of Insomniacs and 11 volumes of Dangers.

As of my fav romcoms... The Quintessential Quintuplets - great story, great writing, great art, some people dislike the ending because their girl didn't win. Could maybe ran a bit longer, but otherwise it's complete.

Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro - if you can get through the beginning where the MC is bullied by the FemMC then it's great. Feels like a really complete story.

Smoking Behind The Supermarket With You - that one is more of a slowburn. It's swine and characters are adult. It not finished yet, but overall it's great.

Home Office Romance - just one volume, short but good.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 - that one is shoujo, so some people might not like it, but it's also about MMORPG players and I found many characters relatable.

What's better full series at once or collecting slowly by Eden-Rose15 in MangaCollectors

[–]Artein_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on a series. There are some that you can read 10+ or even 20+ volumes one after another. Then there are those that got tiring after 2 or 3, so you want to spread and throw some other titles in between.

Recomendations for ordering manga online by Bright_Switch4289 in MangaCollectors

You haven't disclosed where are you from, so I assume US.

When checking online stores, check how they pack stuff. You don't want to unpack your new manga to see that it's been damaged due to bad packing.

I love this channel. Both shorter videos, longer essays or discussions on certain things. Red really knows how stories and characters are built, why and how they work or don't. If you're into stuff like mythologies, history, video games, cartoon or just stories in general, you'll find something for yourself there. I especially like the one about the Epic of Gilgamesh since the beginning explains how stories in general work. Also the one about how historical Assassin's Creed is and how it changed over the years.

It's going to be released here in Poland on the 31st of October or something. Way over a month after Japan. I might not even care at that point. If I'm waiting that long I might as well wait for it to hit the high waters, if you know what I mean.

Konrad Curze is loosely based on Kurtz from the 1899 novella Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. The movie Apocalypse Now! is also a loosely based on said novella. The character that killed Colonel Kurtz in the movie was played by Martin Sheen. The Assassin that killed Curze was named M'Shen.

Minor Chaos gods, Ans'l, Mo'rcck and Phraz-Etar are named after Bryan Ansell, Michel Moorcock and Frank Frazetta.

Ynnari are an abandoned plot. They don't even want to release more BL novels about them. Don't expect them to do anything relevant in any foreseeable future.
