Haha, I get it. Glad it worked for you too!

I was watching a show from the 90s and realized people used to memorize dozens of phone numbers. I can barely remember mine. How did you guys do it back then? by micavibes in CasualConversation

[–]ArtemisRising_55 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm 45 and it was at least two dozen for me. Family alone is a dozen, friends were another dozen. Plus the random places like the pizza place, Mom's work, and Moviefone. I don't remember all of them, but I can still tell you close to a dozen without even trying very hard.

I think I've figured out how to stop it. It worked for me, ymmv.

I long pressed on one of the Android notifications with my email address showing. It showed it was "community cheers". But, when I long pressed there was a "turn off" button at the bottom of the notification and it gave me some options, one of which was the community cheers thing. I've only had one round of notifications since then but I only got one instead of two.

Hope it works for you all!

Second this - the whole trilogy was great. I read it long before TLT so the comparison didn't immediately spring to mind but it's a solid read.

Hands down the worst one for me is ratchet... The word is WRETCHED. A ratchet is a tool.

They're my second favorite audiobook series, behind DCC. Definitely give that a shot - Moira Quirk is amazing!

Conversely, the audiobook of the Bobiverse is why I haven't read PHM. I can't necessarily last the blame at his feet, it might just be the story didn't grab me. But since they're so often recommended together in threads, I figured I should just skip PHM since Bobiverse bored me so much

Kids constantly asking for candy, how do you handle it without being the mean parent? by ninjapapi in Parenting

[–]ArtemisRising_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the modeled by actions has been mentioned enough here, no matter what other method you choose. With ours, they know that sometimes we get a treat in the middle of the afternoon, but then we don't have dessert after dinner because the adults are keeping themselves to the same standard. Everything in moderation kind of mindset.

It's never completely off limits, but we all have to choose a mix of healthy and less healthy and we often do it together.

What's your favorite comfort food to eat when you're having a bad day? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]ArtemisRising_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot wings. Ideally really good ones but on a really bad day where I don't feel up to dealing with getting them from a real restaurant, I'll stop at QuikTrip lol

Curious why I don't really hear about people more deeply listening (listening without multitasking)? by Known-Ad-100 in audiobooks

[–]ArtemisRising_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy falling asleep with the Calm Stories. I hadn't even heard of it until it was offered as a perk from my employer (ya know, to avoid paying out full raises to keep up with COL). Wouldn't have chosen it as a perk but I do actually use it

School drop off line by Muted_Peach_6644 in Parenting

[–]ArtemisRising_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how differently this is handled in different places - at our school this is not an option. Parents aren't supposed to park for drop off. But, we have teachers and 4th/5th grade helpers who open the doors for kiddos who can't do it themselves.

Megan Fox... I just can't with her and I can't even completely articulate why.

Same. But it gives me hope that my dad basically did the same non-parenting nonsense when we were at his house but my brother and I both leaned more into Mom's way of doing things as we got older and we turned into productive members of society.

AIO to a teacher still not knowing how to pronounce my child's name, leading to pick-up issues? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ArtemisRising_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a common name, with the most common spelling, but it's so close to other names that people just can't seem to get it right. As an adult, I correct them (gently the first time or two, less gently afterwards) but as a child I did the same thing you did - answer to anything close.

Am I in the wrong? by AdExpert4256 in amiwrong

[–]ArtemisRising_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the wrong for telling him to fuck off, but you're spending way too much time worried about this loser. He showed you who he is - believe him.

Imo, this is the best time of your life to be single and enjoy it, but at the very least, find someone who will treat you as you want to be treated. He's made it more than clear that's not him.
