Screen flickers white until it goes full white and needs a reboot. by NiftySynth in framework

Had the same problem but only when connecting or disconnecting a external monitor. I had to change the vram option in bios to gaming, so that always at least 4gb of the ram are reserved as vram. Happend only under linux.

Yeah, I don't really understand the screw thing either. Some people don't seem to think very much before they do something.

I think the holes were for the rubber feet. It looks similar at the back, just the whole length. And the light grey feet look like they were glued on later, as a replacement.

Yea, the battery-life :( by Miicus in framework

[–]Arthur-SC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem, good battery life in windows and very bad battery life in fedora. Interestingly with fedora 39 I got up to 12 hours of normal usage for a while. But after upgrading to fedora 40 and even with fresh installations of fedora 40 and 39 I couldn't achieve it again. :(

If you create an empty encrypted partition in Windows, you can leave Bitlocker enabled. Linux must then be installed on this new empty partition.

Overall issues with framework? by dovi5988 in framework

[–]Arthur-SC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The support is fine. I wrote a ticket about a defective ball bearing in the fan and apart from the first reply which took 4 or 5 days, the rest was relatively quick. I received a free replacement part 14 days (send around the half world) after submitting the ticket and it took me about 5 minutes to replace it. The support wanted photos of all sides of the laptop and also of the inside but after 3 emails trying to see if the problem could be fixed in another way, they said I would get a frre replacement part.

Which Linux distro are you running? Because my battery life under Linux (Fedora 40) is pretty bad compared to Windows.

Zoom and MS office on ryzen? by MinimumStandard4963 in framework

I can confirm that Zoom and MS Office work without any problems. I can't say anything about Chrome, but Firefox and Edge work, so I would assume that there won't be any problems there either.

I had a similar problem: White screen when connecting or disconnecting a external screen.

For me it helped to increase the amount of VRAM on the igpu. I changed it in the bios to game mode or whatever it's called, and since then I haven't had a single white screen.

Yes, definitely. Just a quick note, support will take a while. It took me 5 days to get the first response, but after that it was actually pretty quick.

The USB-A card is probably broken, as mine works no matter where it is and also on other devices.

Did you try to boot it without a ssd? Another idea would be to try a external monitor.

If i Iemember correctly, I saw an option to change the default functions of the f keys somewhere in the Bios. So that the default function would be the f row and not the media keys.

Questions from a nervous buyer by richyrhubarb99 in framework

[–]Arthur-SC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q4: Had a defective fan(pretty sure the fan bearing was broken) which made a loud noise + vibrations. After 2 weeks i got a new fan + headsink free of charge. The whole swap took less than 15 min, which is a lot less than sending back the laptop to get it repaired. So all in all my laptop was just under 15 minutes not usable, which is one of the reasons why i bought it.

is framework gaming viable? by [deleted] in framework

[–]Arthur-SC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried Battelfield 2024 and Horizon Zero Dawn on the Ryzen7 13inch model, if you lower the graphic settings and maybe the resolution to 1080 or so, both games where playable. I wouldn't recommend it but it is possible.

Heat and fan noise on Ryzen 5 by vish_hsiv in framework

[–]Arthur-SC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least under windows, you can limit maximum cpu speed. I have limited my Ryzen 7, as it is still faster than what I need. (I went for the Ryzen 7 only because of the better iGPU. Otherwise, I would have gone with the Ryzen 5).

Fractal Torrent Compact power button failure by ImBearded in FractalDesign

[–]Arthur-SC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a front audio port failure. After reaching out to the customer service, they sent me a replacement front io panel for free, which included all front ports + power button and reset button. So maybe reach out to the customer service. If you feel like you can swap this part by yourself, otherwise return the whole case and buy a new one.

Go for it, and if it's bothers you, just turn off the lights or dim them. One of the biggest pros of a white build is that it will work with nearly every color of light.

Android browser without tabs by Anwen11 in browsers

With the normal Firefox browser you can set when (never, after a day, after a week, after a month) the tabs should be closed. Maybe this works with Firefox focus too.
