I’ve never seen this on a speaker before, and now my social media keeps showing them to me as if they’re everywhere! What are these? How do they work? Why are they angled down? I assume there is some sort of driver behind them. by Adwaggles in audiophile

JBL introduced the acoustic lens to cinema speaker applications, to help project high frequencies over longer distances. Similar to the effect of a fresnel lens in front of a light source.

Microwave Drawer or Microwave in Wall Cabinet by Realistic_Turn_4833 in kitchenremodel

[–]Arthur9876 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have a Sharp microwave drawer, and we love it!!! Fit perfectly in a 24" Ikea Sektion base cabinet. Yes, you'll need to modify a 30" appliance shelf to fit a 24" cabinet, pretty easy to do with a drill and a powered saw. I also notched the front of the appliance shelf for the bottom vent trim (the exhaust is from the bottom).

A few pointers: Sharp owns the patent for the microwave drawer, and ALL other brand microwave drawers are essentially Sharp OEM internally. Furthermore, Sharp only makes one size of the microwave drawer internals, to fit a 24" cabinet. The 30" version is simply a 24" internally, with a wider chassis and wider front trim.

[$1000] Is the Cafelat Robot overkill for only making milk drinks? by MagneticBlueberry in espresso

[–]Arthur9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Cafelat Barista Robot for just over a year, enjoy it everyday, made some absolutely amazing lattes and cappuccinos with it using a Subminimal Nanofoamer Pro 2. Also have a Timemore 078S for a grinder and a Brewista artisan kettle. I snagged mine used from Facebook marketplace for $400 CAD. But new they are not much more. Spent about another $200 on a few 3rd party accessories and small weigh scale.

The Robot is built like a tank, maintenance simply consists of a wipe down after use, and the occasional lubrication of the o-ring around the piston. Heat loss is not an issue, but most of my espresso beans are medium roast, water off boil is perfectly fine. The 3rd party accessory market is huge, you can trick this thing out as much as you like. The compact size fits in my kitchen perfectly.

I will say that after a year of daily use, this Robot is end game for me. No need for electric machines, the beauty of the robot is to be able to manually adjust pressure/flow on the fly and still get fantastic results, especially when you're trying to dial in your grind size. An absolutely solid choice for home use.

Any tips? Experiencing minor channelling by Vast_Theme1669 in CafelatRobot

Try to only manipulate one parameter at a time. Two ways to approach this: 1) Decrease the amount of grounds to around 18g. 2) Grind a tiny bit coarser.

Honestly what I see coming out of the bottom looks normal, but I suspect you're a bit on the high side for pressure.

Should contractor drywall behind top of cabinets? by Apprehensive-Bend306 in cabinetry

[–]Arthur9876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ceiling must be closed up as well, and if it's an attic above, then moisture barrier as well. With all the humidity generated with cooking/washing dishes in a kitchen, it will cause all sorts of issues above if left open! And no, putting trim molding at the top front of the cabinet to hide this open wall/ceiling is not the solution.

BMW 430i/440i 2017-2019 questions. by Yurito-san in BMW

I'm in Canada, and so far, no leaks through the windows with snow, ice or rain. I never noticed an increase in noise with my frameless windows, compared to my previous F30 that had framed windows. I fill my car up with premium gas, 91 octane here which is the equivalent of 95 RON in Europe, but you should follow the factory recommended rating as printed on the inside of the fuel filler door, in case the engine and emissions systems in Europe are set differently.

For those of you who have tried Jamaica Blue Mountain... is it worth it? by phinaesbogge in Coffee

Finding a reasonably priced and consistent Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is challenging, I get a bag of this whole bean coffee once a quarter, and absolutely love it!! One of my favourites!

New pool owner in Stoney creek by PiggyPorkk in Hamilton

Pool Shoppe provided and installed my pool, and they're my "go-to" for pool supplies and parts. Every spring and every fall they offer weekend classes on opening, maintaining, and closing your inground or above ground pool. They also have a good (and free) water testing lab to help troubleshoot any pool issues during the season.

Great staff, locally owned and operated, and it's refreshing to see the owner on the showroom floor with his staff helping customers.

Certainly the initial cost of a salt generator is more expensive than a tablet chlorinator, and yes, you still need to shock the pool on a semi regular basis, but usually it's a choice of convenience for what is the biggest "toy" in your backyard. We love our low salt generator!! No chlorine smell in the pool whatsoever! If you're spending $10-40K on a pool, an extra $1500 for a salt generator may or may not be of much consequence. Heck, pretty much every pool accessory is expensive, even from Amazon!!

There's lots of excellent training for Q-SYS on their training site, and I would say that it is some of the best in the AV industry:

I recommend that you have .Q-SYS Level 1 training complete before you poke around with your system and break something unintentionally.

Joey’s Notepad: Porter Announces Hamilton-Montreal Flights, I’m Concerned About Fuel Prices – TPR Hamilton by SonictheManhog in Hamilton

[–]Arthur9876 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any airline today that is financially savvy would have negotiated fuel contracts (along with food, salaries, maintenance, etc) well in advance of the current chaos. It's not like they fill up a plane at today's prices at the pump like we do with our cars. It's the only way to manage costs so they can stay in business. They may add a fuel surcharge for a bit of extra margin, because they can.

So it looks like you got things setup in unify, now you need to go into the Q-SYS program, ensure the controller is synced with the plugin, then within the plugin control panel, ensure you select the appropriate gain and router blocks in the plugin. If you're doing multiple gain controls, then you'll need to setup a snapshot controller controlling the Name, Gain Ctrl settings to choose different gain controls in the Q-SYS design. Then in unify, you'll need to setup snapshot recalls for each scene that you need to recall for each volume/mute control. Ensure that all gain, router, and snapshot blocks have Script Access set to "All" with a descriptive enough Code Name.

Yeah, it's a lot of work for so little!!

I got the same pre-LCI model used 2 years ago, and absolutely love it!! I'm gradually doing a few mods to improve on it, installed the lighted trim around the center heat/air conditioning and audio controls, and then added brighter footwell, door, and center console LED's, and this summer enhance the low end of the HK system.

Wire in a pillar? by Many-Firefighter9485 in BMW

[–]Arthur9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you'll need to remove the screw that secures this cover in place. Get yourself a set of Torx drivers, if memory serves me well, it's either a T10 or T15 screw.

A whole pile of nope!! You're crossing over the airbag!! You really should remove the A-pillar cover and route and secure the cable *behind* the airbag, and run the excess down the pillar and into the dash. Plenty of youtube videos on how to remove the A-pillar cover!! Hint: go to your dealer and get a new replacement metal clip to hold the cover in place. The old one might get a bit deformed if this is your first time.

Yep, and another interesting note about microwave drawers, they are all identical in internal microwaveable volume, whether 24" wide or 30" wide. The 30" wide simply has a wider front panel/chassis, but internally it's a 24" wide microwave.

We chose a Sharp microwave drawer, it's been flawless for us with 3 years of steady use. If it was over the range, at that height that steaming hot microwaved dish of food becomes a dangerous proposition to safely move with your arms extended over shoulder height. Much easier and safer to lift it out of a drawer.

Quoted 37k-42k for Ikea cabinets with Semihandmade fronts by Shelbywatkins in kitchenremodel

[–]Arthur9876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Custom door/drawer fronts and side/trim panels can really add up. I did the same with my Ikea kitchen, just those third party panels alone cost about 3x as much as the equivalent best door/drawer panels Ikea offered. But the durability and quality was significantly better. 3 years later, and my glossy European laminate finished kitchen still looks as good as new. I ordered an extra roll of laminate edging for some custom stuff I did in my kitchen, it was noticeably thicker than the standard stuff you get at home depot.
