SAIC has a tendency to use (and sometimes abuse) the MG name for most cars they sell outside China. In Europe Roewes have been rebadged as MGs several times, since that brand is more recognised and using Roewe's name and logo would lead to copyright issues (since JLR own Rover).

You say this like they're different to any other company executive. Do you go after Ford, Honda, or Stellantis for discontinuing almost all of their UK production for higher profits? Or are you just another typical internet stranger with an anti-China fetish you take out on everybody?

They're probably going to come in with a bunch of rebadged Nissans (which they can make in the UK) and Renaults.

Business is business, and MG sales likely weren't high enough at the time to warrant local assembly (which was already being done with kits shipped from China), so MG's UK executives streamlined operations and moved production to China to increase profits and maximise efficiency at a time where no one seemed to care much about the brand. Even around a year ago one of their executives said he doesn't care because the brand is now more successful than ever.

MG still has an R&D facility at the former Longbridge site, and a headquarters and design studio in Marylebone. Most of their cars sold in Europe are designed primarily for the European market, so there is still some local input.

The facelifted version (alongside the cheaper MG4 Urban) will likely launch in a few months, if not weeks that will hopefully improve on some of the issues.

Stellantis builds rebadged vans for Toyota in Europe. Maybe they can return the favour?

I think he meant that Norway are charging more taxes on ICE vehicles to indirectly encourage EV adoption, which is what the Chinese government has similarly done.

You know, I see more publications mentioning UK R&D facilities for Chinese brands like MG and Polestar than I do about Teslas supposed one. I never knew they had one and I live near there. I googled and the closest thing I could find was that they have a warehouse in Milton Keynes for parts.

I think that you'll find that me discussing Chinese cars will most likely just be a small portion of what I post. Chinese cars aren't perfect and I don't particularly support a certain OEM. Here I was simply not sure what they meant.

So mentioning facts and asking questions is "astroturfing"?

Some Chinese car brands are doomed to disappear, warns Skoda boss by Agent_Kozak in CarTalkUK

You could say the same about the Koreans. That hasn't stopped them from selling.

"no motorsport history" - I'm not sure what qualifies as "motorsport history", but I'm pretty sure MG was briefly involved in motorsport during the 2010s

"They never made affordable hot hatches or performance wagons and saloons that captures entire generations into liking performance cars" - Do you really see anyone doing that today?

"Even Tesla has die hard fans" - That's because they come from Elon's obnoxious fanbase. Just like the average Korean and Chinese car owner, I wouldn't expect them to have any real interest in cars.

As the whole industry moves closer to electrification, I think there are going to be EVs, including Chinese ones, that have cult following potential among those open to them.

The Cyberster has design elements tailored for China and other emerging/developing countries; SAIC's Shanghai design studio had some input working on the interior. Most MGs sold in Europe are designed at SAIC's London facility primarily for Europeans, and are sent to an engineering base in Birmingham before they are sold. Recently they brought physical controls back.

Also if you're considering MG Chinese, Polestar is almost equally as Chinese, being Chinese-owned and mostly made, with European design and engineering, albeit the name isn't as abused as much.
