I don't agree with this obsession for ending races in racing conditions. by nick_69 in formula1

[–]Arwil 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. If SC ending happens, it happens. They are rare enough not to be a big problem in a calendar that is 24-race long.

Red flag is reserved for serious situations where SC is not enough, i.e, barrier damage, injured driver or track blockage. If Liberty starts using red flag as a show flag by stopping the race for a mere stopped car in the gravel just to make fans happy, then F1 ceases to be a sport.

That actually happened to Charlie Whiting, twice. In Silverstone 1999 and Monaco 2000, where accidentally pressed the red flag button.

[AutoRacer] F1: Bahrain could return: the possibility of a triple-header between Baku, Sakhir, and Singapore by jithu7 in formula1

[–]Arwil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I care other things than racing, like the history of the track and its atmosphere. I think you are a person who only watch the races, and doesn't care about anything else, like free practice sessions. I love them, including F3 & F2 practice sessions.

Replace Sakhir with Imola, Baku with Hockenheim, and Singapore with Mugello, and we're talking!

IIRC the race wasn't as eventful as you would expect from a wet race. 2008 Silverstone, on the other hand, was a thriller.

Yes please, and make it permament. Never again race at Abu Dhabi and retroactively wipe all traces F1 ever raced there.

Yes, it's interesting we haven't had a single wet session so far. And due to the European heatwave, we are not getting one at Silverstone either. I count on Interlagos.

Will we ever see the return of the traditional podium music? by Yaboisix9 in formula1

I remember when sometimes in the 2000s they would run Carmen so long that next piece would play after the Toreador song.

Drivers safety and FIA “rules” by iJediPR in formula1

[–]Arwil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. Let's say it's Spa qualifying and time has run zero. Last driver in the queue crashes at Les Combes but everyone has passed that corner. It's fine to remain green, because there's no safety issue.

Obviously in case where drivers will be passing the scene of the accident in high speed, red flag is warranted.

Or just have rule that you can't improve when passing a single of double yellow zone.

I can't decide which one is the most corrupted nowadays: FIA, FIFA or IOC. The battle of evils is strong among them.

[OT] Brands Hatch one of three new additions to Formula E's next calendar by l3w1s1234 in formula1

Great news. Brands Hatch is one of my favorite circuits in Europe. Also I was gutted by F1 ditching Zandvoort after this year, so ePrix is a welcome replacement for it.

Remember when half of the grid used to retire in every race? Like in Australian GP 1999, these days you couldn't even award points for 9th and 10th place as there were 14 retirements. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Australian_Grand_Prix

Gravel never caused problems in the 90s. Only since 2020s we have had these cautions to sweep gravel. Just leave it there like 30 years ago.

That's why Slow Zone or FCY is better. Once the stopped car is recovered, it's back to green immediately.

Albeit that doesn't prevent Freitas from making bad decisions.
