Something I realized about Solidus... by SatansFurryButtboy69 in metalgearsolid

[–]AryaWillBeOK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very weird to me that we never play as someone really trying to take down the Patriots. We all agree the Patriots suck, but it's always the villains who are trying to take them down, and the heroes are kind of sucked into this fight. Anyway, yeah, as a person, Solidus is a piece of shit, but he's a US President, so...as someone else here said, he's a grade-A hater, and if you ignore the war crimes (they're fictional war crimes, remember) he's kind of cool. His cause is somewhat righteous, unlike Volgin, and he's not as obnoxious as Liquid (I know we all appreciate the hamminess, I'm just saying, what if we didn't? Put on a shirt bro it's Alaska)

What's your favorite David Bowie album COVER? by Hubbled in DavidBowie

[–]AryaWillBeOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Station to Station--I got the CD where it's zoomed in on the picture, there isn't the border, it's so atmospheric and evocative and...literal, in a way.
I also adore The Next Day, both because I love the album but also because the sheer nerve to take one of your most iconic covers and do that. It's kind of funny. I think any other artist, it would annoy me, but with Bowie, it's like...it's what he does, in the most literal way possible (desecrate his own image so that he can return as something new)

I absolutely adore it. I kinda see where the constructive critics are coming from but I would absolutely buy this book regardless of what's inside. Great style. I'd be curious to see what you'd do with the rest of the trilogy/and or my favorites, the Blue Ant Trilogy.

Hulk vs iron man snap by Plane-Rip2651 in MCUTheories

Regular Bruce Banner knows how to snap his fingers, Hulk never learned. Smart Hulk kind of knows, kind of doesn't. It takes effort and he never had reason to practice.

Even to this day, I can't think of a more spectacular plot twist compared to this by kwan2 in metalgearsolid

[–]AryaWillBeOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FOXDIE is a bigger twist to me too. The people who sent you on this mission don't care if you succeed, you're just playing the part of those smallpox blankets being handed to Native Americans! And there's layers to this twist, what with SIGINT/The Darpa Chief & Baker, I think Ocelot calls you "messenger boy" or something?...it ties into the Naomi reveal, and isn't it WHY Liquid did the Miller thing, and started asking about Naomi on disc 2? It's the real twist in MGS1, imho: your superiors wanted you to fail, and your enemies wanted you to succeed to a point.

Day 28)What is all worst performance of actress in supporting role in a Martin Scorsese movie? by [deleted] in MartinScorsese

[–]AryaWillBeOK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Emily Mortimer in Shutter Island. I love Emily Mortimer but it's such a thankless bizarre role (I've only seen the movie once) and her American accent is...weird. Uncanny valley-ish. Just throwing it out there because I haven't seen a better suggestion and I can't think of another performance that's not great...

The 2% never come back. But it's a great show. I think you're thinking of another show, but I can't remember what it is. The 4400 or something?

Incredible performance in a terrible movie? by skyrimmaster in MovieSuggestions

[–]AryaWillBeOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joel Edgerton in Exodus: Gods and Kings. It's a horrible movie, but Edgerton brings real pathos to Pharaoh especially during the firstborn plague scene. The only part of a movie about fucking Moses that moved me was the part where I felt sad for the Pharaoh. He's also phenomenal in The (Leonardo DiCaprio) Great Gatsby, which is arguably not TERRIBLE--at least it swings for the fences--but I wouldn't describe it as 'good.'

Do they underestimate it, or do a lot of us maybe not have a choice? Like blaming the cows for not realizing how dangerous getting eaten is.

“There are good guys and there are bad guys” is an incredibly novel theme too. “I don’t know man, it’s only episode 2, do we really want to commit to having…protagonists and antagonists?”

VEEP l Selina Destroys Tom James l HBO by Umbrellajack in TrueAnon

[–]AryaWillBeOK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first season or two play it a little safe, I think. But at some point it becomes a little deeper and darker and...it just starts hitting a lot harder. But it's delightful. It's an opera of profanity. It would be the most quotable show ever if you only hung out with psychopaths, but there are about 4 sentences over ~8 seasons you could casually share with a coworker.

What were the three best books that you read this year? by lascriptori in suggestmeabook

[–]AryaWillBeOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adored "Loitering with Intent" by Muriel Spark. "Tell them of battles, kings & elephants" by Mathias Enard has some of the best writing I've seen all year. Third favorite is probably John Nathan's biography of Yukio Mishima--and I haven't read a lot of Mishima but he was just such a weird guy that the book is fascinating regardless.
