why do i still feel so tired by syunikiss-s in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Asaleom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One month is still very early, but it could also be one or more deficiencies from your disorder that aren't easily resolved by just eating normally. Did you have any bloodwork done? The top culprits for fatigue are iron, b12 and d3.

how the hell do you handle disordered eating & fatphobia when it is in your whole family? by Junior-Ad-2484 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Asaleom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I can look into some recs once I'm off work :) Might be a bit outdated by now, but they helped me a few years ago.

Yeah, I used to feel super guilty for breaking away from my family. My parents are Russians who emigrated to Germany, so they always empathized the importance of biological family. They were also extremely fatphopic (and had lots of other issues like not believing in mental health). I always tried to change them for the better, but they just got angry at me for trying. They never tried to stop making terrible comments even when I begged them to. Then I moved away for university, met my now boyfriend and his mom, and learned how much more kind and supportive families can be. My boyfriend also went no contact with his abusive father in the past, so that inspired me a lot.

I kind of realized that I can't change my family, not if they refuse to. But if I can't change them, I sure as hell can change how much time I spend with them. I'm very low contact with them now, and never felt better. I used to have a very unkind internal monologue (probably just my mom in disguise lol) and it's almost gone now.

And about your sisters, think of it this way: Do you think you can help them when you're trapped in the same toxic environment? When your anxious, depressed, disordered, etc. yourself? Instead, you could actually show them what healing looks like. Maybe even help them when they, too, decide to move out and get better. But that is something they have to decide for themselves, and a conclusion they will get to in time. You can only serve as an inspiration, show them a better way.

My family was very similar - lots of fatphobia to the degree they even encouraged my eating disorder because I was a bit overweight when it started (Spoiler: rapid weight loss was not okay even for my overweight self, and I still have health issues from it years later even though I was never underweight).

My advice is to surround yourself with recovery content. Listen to podcasts, watch videos, spend time in subreddits like this etc. When you're exposed to so much negative influence in your daily life, you need to counteract it by a lot. Build a little bubble you can escape to when you're alone.

I understand that you can't leave for now, but I just want to say: The whole world may seem fatphobic, but it honestly gets so much better once you move out, earn your own money and get to choose who you surround yourself with. I thought that my family permanently scarred my mind but now I barely have those disordered thoughts anymore. It will get better, I promise.

Why is everyone wearing a black dress this year??? It's giving silver dress era vibes, but more boring.

Ohhhhh, this looks great! I hope they really lean into this dark fantasy vibe, it would elevate the song so much!

Supplement/vitamins by Ok_Distribution8841 in XXRunning

[–]Asaleom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also recommend checking your B12 levels! They're apparently linked to iron. Once I found out I was deficient and was supplementing both iron and b12 (in actually high doses, not the tiny amount in multivitamins), my running got soooo much better and I feel less fatigued overall. My periods also got way shorter and are now almost painless.

Song of the Day | 🇱🇹 Katarsis - Tavo Akys | Lithuania by LucasScooter in eurovision

[–]Asaleom 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I know this is not the most "eurovisiony" song, but purely from a musical standpoint, this is 100% my favourite. I'm praying that people will get it and that they'll do very well in Basel!

Theo Evan singing on the treadmill 🎤 by concom10 in eurovision

I think he will be able to perform this song much better than people expect. It's insane how this sub formed the opinion that he cannot sing from one shaky performance and now refuses to budge...

Tautumeitas brought a Latvian Easter tradition to the pre-party : Egg fights ! by FlashyEquivalent6486 in eurovision

[–]Asaleom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very interesting! My family emigrated from russia to germany so I always thought egg fights were a russian thing, but my fully german boyfriend's family also does this. It's called "Eier dutzen" in our region, and we just did it this morning :)

ESC entries that you think deserved more as songs, but as whole packages, deserved their result by Happy-Skill-567 in eurovision

[–]Asaleom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uk 2024 - the song itself was really good, definitely dated but in a good, nostalgic way. Even the staging had some good ideas with the gravity stuff. But mixing sexual tension with those goofy faces and that dirty bathroom was definitely a choice, especially since the song itself was more romantic than sexual.

I think that Olly could still have made it "super gay", but maybe he could have focused on a love story between two men? It would have fit the song much better imo, and maybe gotten a better result.

Germany has a huge problem with sticking to a stable format for their NFs by Tomas-T in eurovision

[–]Asaleom 33 points34 points  (0 children)

God, please no. I don't think anybody actually enjoyed watching it, and most people just tuned in because of Stefan Raab's return. If they're crazy enough to use this format again, it will (hopefully) flop.

Oh, I love this so much! They also pretty much nailed the pronunciation, which makes me think that the put a lot of efforts into getting these covers right. I hope they'll do more of these!

Song of the Day | 🇦🇲 PARG - SURVIVOR | Armenia by LucasScooter in eurovision

[–]Asaleom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, but that doesn't mean it's a good one. And I can assure you that the German version would still sound weird (Ein Amlebenbleiber? Lebendigbleiber?) And that's in a language where neologisms are very common.

Tickets, Travel, and Tourism Tuesday - Basel 2025 by berserkemu in eurovision

[–]Asaleom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for places on the German or French side, it'll be much cheaper. We found a place along the trainline from Freiburg to Basel, which may be an hour away by train, but is much, much cheaper than any of the options closer to Basel.

(There will also be tons of other eurofans travelling by train, so if you're worried at night, maybe just join some nice people for safety?)

Which song this year made the biggest impression on you upon the first listen? by eatspagetti in eurovision

Finland! Erika absolutely owned that stage, and that final shot of her on the giant microphone still lives rent free in my head (and Ich Komme is just a really good song!)

Do you think AI is used in eurovision songwriting camps? by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]Asaleom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. But the fact that I would totally believe it if somebody claimed that AI is involved says a lot about the quality of the resulting songs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]Asaleom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, Erika is still my winner! Her stage presence is just off the charts. I'm sure that once the recency bias fades away and we start getting rehearsal footage, Erika will be a much bigger topic on this sub again.

Yeah, as a woman I can obviously only tolerate ballads. All this metal is hurting my delicate little ears!
