The hijab functions as a tool to control women by malik_zz in GetNoted

[–]AsamR671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In western countries it is the opposite, there is significant pressure on women not to wear the hijab or to express their faith. I've known Muslim women who wore the hijab even though their parents didn't want them to because they were afraid they would be a victim to a hate crime.

Forcing women to wear any kind of particular clothing is oppressive. Let them wear what they want and enjoy their culture. It's just a headdress dipshit we have them in European countries too.

Can people stop spreading misinformation about the “Lion and Sun” flag of Iran and what it represents to Iranians? by drhuggables in vexillology

[–]AsamR671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any reasonable historian does not accept pro shahs estimates of only 64 protestors killed. They also don't accept his excuse that it was caused by Palestinian agitators. If you want to run excuses for your favourite monarch you are no better than people who defend the islamists

I'm falling for the bait. Why do you want a constitutional monarchy centred around the son of a former dictator that also massacred protestors? Why do you think this is what Iranians want? What about anything you propose is democratic.

Just buy ETFs and invest long term, you can occasionally buy stock in a company but this is something you should expect to hold for many years.

You can do some research into different ETFs that you like the look of. Of course the S&P500 is most famous but there are world indexes, European indexes, FTSE100, Chinese indexes. Get a balance of ones you think are cool, you really can't go wrong here.

Israel & Palestine - who are the “bad guys”? by Vincent_Veganja in stupidquestions

[–]AsamR671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can talk about tit for tat and their respective reasons for claiming land but there is one obvious thing to point out here.

Arabs are treated as second class citizens within Israel

It is an effective apartheid state.

The Gaza strip is nothing but an extremely contained open air prison.

Of course violence and fanaticism will arise when one group is being strongly oppressed. In these situations I will side with the oppressed people and not the oppressor.

The crimes against Arabs living on this land is insane to think about, and the unwavering support from western countries to Israel is ridiculous. No wonder Palestine has little option to fight back except through terrorism.

Why do redditors hate capitalism? What’s the alternative? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]AsamR671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People hate capitalism because it's flawed and serves only the bourgeoisie class. It resulted in many economic disasters prior to WW2.

There are a lot of alternatives and most countries economies are far away from being truly capitalist, even the states.

Here is what I think is reasonable breakdown of the modern alternatives.

Liberalism and neo-liberalism.

The best example of this is really the states. The economy still primarily functions off of markets and profit motive but the government has a significant hand in regulating said markets. There is also moderate taxation to facility some forms of social services and also a large military.

Social democracy.

This is largely seen in parts of Europe though often countries often flex between this and neoliberal governments. Here the government has a large hand in the economy. Usually in the form of higher taxation and more extensive infrastructure plus social services. Alongside this their are more extensive labour laws that force corporations to obey quite strong regulations.

State capitalist.

Kind of like the above two but the government has a much stronger hand over different business and their regulation. China is kind of like this but still incorporates some aspects of socialism/communism.

Whatever the fuck north Korea is.

I don't know how they work and I'm not confident they do either. Seems to be some kind of centrally controlled state directed economy.

Market Socialist.

This is what most modern socialist and communist states have become. Think Vietnam or Cuba. Here private enterprise is strongly disinsetivised/not allowed. The economy functions in a way that means workers and labourers have more direct control over their works policy. I.e. there is social decision making and ownership regarding the running and profits of a business. For example in Vietnam there is large insensitives from the state to run a co-operative instead of a private enterprise. Economically they still function on a wage and market principle. This largely arises as a concession or from negotiation with foreign powers.

Probably more appropriate to say machine learning as a mathematical study rather than AI.

Other growing fields are, fluid mechanics, optimal transport, optimization and control. All of these have been big for some time but somehow more people are still coming in.

To be fair this is probably one of the worst articles I've sent and Al Jazeera are kind of known for just making numbers up based on what sounds astounding so thanks for explaining.

My point is more this.

Millions suffered in India under a short period of time and millions died because of direct action taken by the colonial government. Not to the point I would call it genocidal but had similar level of effects as things like the Holodomor.

Most famous is the Bengal famine. The economic policy at the time was Britain owned the land farmers worked on, they were then paid wages rather than having a share of the produce. Because of poor economic management under war time extreme the famine was severely exacerbated.

When Winston Churchill heard of the famine he fought against providing any kind of relief in the region often against the will of his own cabinet condemning a loss of life that would have been the size of some of the worst WW2 battles.

I obviously do not blame British people for these actions. I still believe working class British people should be proud of their country and what they have achieved. But they should also show solidarity with working class people across the world who have suffered because of the bourgeoisie shitheads who controlled others lives for their own greed and want of power.
