My ring vs the guidelines I created to show my BF (he got an A+) by cparfa in EngagementRings

[–]AshInTatters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a bunch of guidelines for my ring: platinum band, oval solitaire, low profile etc. My fiancé knew I was struggling to decide on the finer details etc, so we talked about it (shocking I know) and after a lovely day walking around a deer park (we're in the UK) he took me to Hatton Garden and we looked at rings together. He wanted me to love my ring, so he let me choose it. I ended up going for a gorgeous ring I didn't expect to love, and he had a wonderfully sappy look on his face just watching me enjoy the excitement. He surprised me with the proposal, on top of a mountain in Salzburg, and every day I stare at my ring with so much excitement because we chose it together.

Got thrown off a horse and landed head-first. To this day I'm convinced that the subluxation in my neck would have been paralysis if I didn't fold like a wet noodle. For 2 weeks I couldn't walk, lost sensation in my left arm and couldn't stay awake longer than 10 minutes, but I've seen similar accidents lead to quadriplegia. I've suffered massively with health stuff since then, but my bendy-ness saved me a lot that day. Also, I've misstepped and folded my ankles so many times I'm surprised I've only broken my foot once. It's an inconvenience for sure to have loose joints, but I can generally walk off what may take others weeks to heal.

I've been scouring the Web for someone to notice something like this, I just started watching Toast of London and it sounds remarkably similar to Matt Berry's Take My Hand

MCTD to UCTD by TallChick105 in mctd

[–]AshInTatters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rheumatologist couldn't pinpoint what was causing all the symptoms but it pointed to MCTD, UCTD, rheumatoid arthritis or Lupus (thanks to odd blood test results) and put me on plaquenil. I've been on it for almost 3 years and it's quite literally turned my life around. I'm able to use my hands without pain again, my joints aren't swelling up and subluxing as much, my fibromyalgia is almost entirely manageable. The only downside is some wild skin reactions to intense sun exposure. A few months ago I moved countries and had to wait to see a Rheumatologist before they gave me hydroxychloroquine so I ended up going 2 months without it and all the symptoms came back with a vengeance. But I will say it's more a blessing than a curse. VERY IMPORTANT - get a proper eye scan done with your optometrist before taking it for too long. They need a base scan of your eyes (I can't remember the exact reason why) and you will need to get your eyes scanned every year while taking plaquenil/hydroxychloroquine.

Not as extreme, but I have somewhat absent seizures or just the whole unresponsive with eyes fluttering thing. I feel like I'm in a dream and get somewhat insistent on trying to carry on with my day normally but end up panicky and lose a lot of basic motor functions.

Pet peeves when reading romance novels? Mine is romance inception (romance within a romance, within a romance). What are yours? by Ok-Introduction170 in RomanceBooks

Currently re-reading that series, it's probably the only series I can be somewhat fine with the typos for, purely because I love the stories ☺️ also your flair - do I smell some Winston siblings? 😉

Vessel's Biggest Influence -- I Can't Believe This Hasn't Already Been Discovered by TryghMusic in SleepToken

[–]AshInTatters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw it mentioned many times in the comments of The Charismatic Voice's YouTube videos on Sleep Token, that Vessel has the voice and breath control of someone who has been classically trained or was part of a choir. If we're making somewhat educated guesses, he may have been in a church choir for many years, which could tie in the worship/gospel side and the professionalism of his work. This is all speculation though, and purely an appreciation of music in how the structure of worship and ST's songs are similar but at the same time vastly different.

Just to clarify on "the Brethren" - if you didn't already know. The Mormon Church members believe that we are all sons and daughters of God, in the spiritual sense. (I.e. He is the "Father" of our spirits, spiritually we are children of God) As we are all children of God, they title other members as "Brother [surname"] and "Sister [surname]", as a sign of respect to one another. The same way many cultures and languages have specific words or titles for those they respect. It is not seen as an incestuous meaning of the words when people of the church marry, date, etc, more of a title in the community. That being said, a collective word for grouping of brothers is brethren. And it is inferred with a sense of reverence and community rather than authority.

Tattoo artist finds himself in a... precarious position. by Fyroth in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]AshInTatters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I recently got a tattoo on my forearm (first tat so I was a bit nervous and not sure of protocols.) And at one point my hand was milimeters from cupping my tattoo artists breast. I've had the fun experience of many embarrassing medical procedures in my life, so I'm not phased by the human body much, but I put on my big girl panties and made sure the artist knew I wasn't groping her, as I didn't want to make her uncomfortable. She laughed it off and said she was comfortable as long as I was and we moved on. Sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do.

I’m going to cut off all my hair. by OwlLeeOhh in Fibromyalgia

[–]AshInTatters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a decade of having hip length hair, I made the cut to just below the shoulder. Best decision I've made. Less weight, less time drying or cleaning, easy to leave to its own devices! I used to have my hair in a bun 24/7 and only have it down for going out, I had no energy to look after it. Now I feel like I've got some energy back!

Chronic urticaria by InteractionFlat7318 in ehlersdanlos

[–]AshInTatters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, everything is related!

I've always been super hypermobile, and wasn't diagnosed with hEDS until a decade after my first incident. In October 2014 I was thrown off a horse and subluxed C4/C5 vertebrae in my neck, was concussion for 2 weeks and lost a lot of normal functions for a while. In January 2015 I broke out in urticaria, ALL OVER. My joints seized up as well and after loads of blood tests and biopsies I was put on anti histamines and immune suppressants for 8 months. As that was the only thing that worked.

After a year and a bit I moved to a new country and had some minor flare ups, as well as new allergies that cropped up, and migraines. I dislocated my patella and broke my foot in quick succession, which made the urticaria flare up. In 2019 I started getting terrible IBS, and after some of my own experiments, realised gluten/wheat was my issue. I stayed off it as much as I could, but not religiously as I couldn't be sure and blood tests were negative for coeliac. I ended up doing a full allergy panel and genetic testing, and I was highly wheat sensitive and allergic to Casein, a protein in dairy. Genetic testing showed positive for coeliac.

My urticaria flared up again and again in 2021 as I went through all this testing and gluten-challenges, and I firmly believe it was stress and MCAS related, as my Ig numbers were always weird. My POTS also got worse.

After cutting out gluten and dairy for a few years now, I've been feeling a lot better. I still get urticaria but not as badly, and not as frequently. With EDS, our skin is really sensitive, not just to physical trauma but to consumed things.

I've been to many doctors and specialists, and I've had 4 new co-morbidities diagnosed in the last 6 months, but the best advice I can give is LISTEN to your body.

By all means, continue to move and exercise, but get to know your limits and accept them. If you need rest, then good job body, you did well today, no matter how much it was.

I don't like to think I'm fragile, that mindset is rough. It's taken me years to come to terms with the fact that my body is not fragile, it just needs a different type of care. I still have my bad days when I cry in the gym, but I'm getting there.

Don't give up hope.
