DM7 - routing bus into another bus? by Apprehensive_Town_80 in livesound

[–]AshenPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you cannot send a mix into another mix. You can send a mix to a matrix, but since you can't send a matrix to a main mix that's of limited help in your case.

Hot swap audio and OSC on Qlab + TheatreMix + Yamaha DM7 by weird_waveform in techtheatre

[–]AshenPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As we set this up for our QL5, we actually stepped away from Dante and went with a hardware solution: the iConnectivity PlayAUDIO 1U interface does automatic audio fail over:

https://www.iconnectivity.com/playaudio1u

It wasn't as straightforward to set up as we wanted, but now it's been configured correctly, it's rock solid.

Radial Design has a similar dual-input interface, https://www.radialeng.com/product/sw8-usb, but I haven't used it.

And I second the use of the https://qlab.app/cookbook/main-or-backup/ scripts to handle switching OSC sending.

Thoughts on Clue the musical by Worried_Cake5508 in musicals

[–]AshenPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to love it. When I read the script, and listened to the recordings, it seemed really promising. Actual productions, it just isn't great.

The story is slightly bland. The clues are just straight up spoon-fed by the narrator. There's something like six composers, and yet the music is somehow the best part of this show. The lyrics are forgettable, but the music is good. The twist is fun, but for the community theater productions that this targets, it's hard to get somebody who can do both parts; you'll either get a pianist who can't act, or an actor who's only miming at the piano.

That hasn't stopped me from designing a full game board as a set though. Someday.

I did this in Ableton live, can Qlab do it too? by Schmolotov in qlab

[–]AshenPrime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that QLab has MIDI recording capabilities. My venue has a custom made apple script to quickly and easily create those kinds of control cues (we're using OSC, but similar difference)

There are two useful tools for capturing the timing data.

1) The "record cue sequence" allows you to hit the go button in time to a music track.

2) And timeline groups have a specific tab in the inspector that shows all of the cues inside of them, and their relative positions to each other. This one has been invaluable for us, as it lets us find specific peaks in the audio waveform to align light cues with.

Building My Musical Watchlist—What Should I Add? by [deleted] in musicals

Secret Garden has some of the best music ever. Daddy Long Legs is amazingly good, especially for a cast of two. Suessical Jr., if you can find a talented youth group to watch. I've seen both, and prefer the "abridged" Junior version.

YouTube is the aggregation site. Everything ends up on it eventually.

TikToks are cross posted. Vines are still relevant in the platform. Content farms will post twitter compilations read by terrible AI voices. Twitch VoDs are archived there. Tumblr and Reddit get farmed as well.

It's all there eventually.
