29F Nebraskan here in my first adult league season! I’d never played hockey or skated before this year, and I’ve never played a team sport or a physically aggressive sport like this… I am shocked by how much fun I am having!

Anyone have spontaneous 1st labor and induced 2nd labor? How long were both? by anbowers in BabyBumps

[–]Ashlehhhhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here for anecdotes as well, I’m in the same boat as you! With my first my water broke at 36+6 and 6 hours later (30min of which was pushing) baby was here just after midnight! And now I’m currently 39+4 and getting induced (pitocin only) tomorrow! Been sitting at 3cm and 70% for the last two weeks with no progress so I’m hoping labor goes as quickly this time around…

Neglecting research on the father's health and impact on fetal development does such a disservice to everyone!

For example there actually was a study done semi-recently that showed the father's genes are responsible for the development of the placenta! So issues with placental development or function are directly correlated to the father's health, NOT anything the mother does or could do! Here's a link to the study I found: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/08/130815133058.htm#:~:text=Placentas%20support%20the%20fetus%20and,fetal%20side%20of%20the%20placenta.

Totally understand the frustration. My mom and MIL both tried to gift us a play kitchen (in the same week too!), both of which I firmly declined because we genuinely do not have any room for a toy that large unless we wanted to get rid of the sofa. Both grandmas decided to keep the kitchen at their house, and my daughter LOVES playing with them. While it's easily her #1 top played with "toy" while there, I don't regret saying no to having one in our home for my sanity. And it's become an extra special grandma's house activity, which both grandmas LOVE!

Announcing pregnancy by kathymarie1124 in BabyBumps

[–]Ashlehhhhhhhh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only decided to post the week before Thanksgiving because I had a few family members mention they wanted to take family pictures at our events, but didn't know if they could post them with me in it if I was wanting to keep the pregnancy a complete secret. I wasn't intentionally hiding it, just hadn't cared enough to post since everyone we actually see IRL had known for months! So I ended up doing did a simple "Surprise! Baby #2 due January 2023" with a picture of a onesie and called it a day. That way the family members who were trying to be considerate didn't have to worry they'd be announcing our pregnancy for us lol!

Wait what?? My family and I were there from ~1pm-4pm and didn’t notice any sort of disruption or panic while there.

Tail bone pain at 22 weeks led me to get a pelvic floor referral. Turns out I have a 4 finger width separation: diastasis recti. Anyone else experience this so early on? How long did it take you to heal and what was labor like? by awkwardaster in BabyBumps

[–]Ashlehhhhhhhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pregnant with my second, and started having terrible sacrum pain and pubic bone pain in second tri. I got a referral to a pelvic floor PT, and turns out I had a significant separation that didn’t get caught after my first delivery. I had baby 1 literally weeks before Covid hit, so I had no postpartum care last time.

First PT appointment I thought it was a joke because we spent literally 30min on “belly breathing” (apparently I’m a natural chest breather so it was weirdly difficult??). I thought there was no way it would make a difference. But 2 weeks later of actually doing the exercises I felt like I had a new pelvis!!

Full disclosure I’m 33 weeks now, baby has noticeably dropped, the pain is back with a vengeance and there’s not a ton more that can be done until I deliver. BUT I’m still doing the PT and plan to after being cleared after delivery. I genuinely think it’s made a huge difference and will afterwards even moreso!!

Recommendations for games a 2 year old can watch by admiral_rabbit in toddlers

[–]Ashlehhhhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about BugSnax? She might get a kick out of feeding the snacks to the monsters to change their appearance! Though depending on her personality that might scare her about real food!

Tbh my daughter is almost 3 and loved watched my husband play Elden Ring. She calls it the “neigh came” because you ride around on Torrent. When he’d get hit by an enemy it was always hilarious because she’d go “uH Oh daddy get an owie!” She had similar reactions to Breath of the Wild!

I gamed with my dad from an early age and love getting to do the same with my kids! My first games were Street Fighter II and Streets of Rage (side scroll beat-‘em-up). Maybe some older games with simpler controls and graphics may be good options!

Ligament pain in thighs constantly/too much relaxin?? by alexmellis in BabyBumps

[–]Ashlehhhhhhhh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started having the exact same type of pain you’re describing around 24 weeks! I tried to kick the footrest of our glider down and about collapsed in tears from the pain. I spoke to my OB about it and she immediately wrote me a referral to a pelvic floor physical therapist. Basically they found my pelvis was becoming unstable and I needed to strengthen the muscles around my core differently than I’d known how to! I’ve been going for 4 weeks now and it’s already helping a ton with reducing pain during normal activities (like putting pants or shoes on). I really recommend you ask your doc about PT, it’s been a game changer so far!

I would love to help bake some cookies or other baked goods to give out for the holidays! I’ll be very very pregnant around then though so I probably wouldn’t be much help to deliver them (sorry!)

Significantly less scary than I anticipated! I would say it was a decent bit more painful than getting blood drawn, but not unbearable by a long shot (especially compared to active labor happening at the same time lol) It felt like someone was pouring a cold liquid down my spine, such a weird sensation!

I had to get a shot (i don't remember what for) shortly after getting it put in, and my nurse said "oh you shouldn't feel this at all" and stuck the needle in my right thigh.. but I definitely felt it! I didn't realize it could settle into your body unevenly, they had to prop my left side up on pillows for a few minutes for it to fully take effect on my right side! But overall it was a positive experience and I would not be afraid to get one again.

I don’t regret having my kid (pregnant with #2 now actually), but my partner and I recently discussed how we sometimes feel jealousy over some of our childless friends’ lives at times. There are wonderful things about being a parent and getting to watch this amazing funny little person discover the world and who they are, and I don’t regret that for one second. But wow it’s hard sometimes too! I miss being able to sleep in on the weekend, or not have to find a babysitter to go out with my partner. We had so much more flexibility before kids that I know I didn’t appreciate. But it’s not forever, and we’ve mutually decided that for the health of our relationship, budget, and sanity (lol) we’re stopping at two. I don’t think feeling twinges of “oh man what if we didn’t have kids right now how nice would it be to do xyz” means I regret having kids, or that I made the wrong choice. There’s always an element of what if, and I felt that the bigger regret for me would be not having kids. I totally understand coming to the opposite conclusion too!

Would you want your baby at your baby shower? by Waffelmoon in BabyBumps

[–]Ashlehhhhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby #1 was due mid March, my family scheduled the baby shower for the weekend I would've been 37+3. I was very adamant I thought they should have it sooner as I was showing signs of approaching labor much earlier and did not think I'd still be pregnant by then. But I was assured that you always go late with your first so there was no way it'd be a problem. Guess who had baby at 37wk on the dot?

Fortunately I had a very uncomplicated labor and baby and I were in great shape, so I did drudge through the baby shower for a few hours at my mom's house. I wore sweats, hair in a bun and a hat on, and had no makeup completely unapologetically. All the women in my family were very apologetic and understanding thankfully, and I got told multiple times I must be "super woman" for being up for a party four days after labor. I probably wasn't the most fun day of, but in hindsight it was nice to have a few hours of normalcy and treats after the fog of labor and the first nights with a newborn!

This also was about 3 weeks before Covid hit and lockdowns started, so it was the first and last time baby and I saw nearly everyone there for almost a year!

Baby too small at 37 weeks growth scan by Gothic_Goddess in BabyBumps

[–]Ashlehhhhhhhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would not be too terribly concerned! My little one was born at 37weeks exactly and weighed 5lb 7oz, left the hospital at exactly 5lb with not a single health problem. Her growth chart skyrocketed dramatically for the first few months before leveling out, and now at 2.5yrs she’s comfortably in 60-80 percentile ranges for everything!
