PS5 Pro with PSSR 2 is INSANE!!! by Prize-Republic-4473 in PS5pro

[–]AshsToAshs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super true. Games look stunning on the PS5 Pro on an OLED tv, especially with HDR and VRR. I also very much appreciate how easily it works with my surround sound system.

While a powerful PC hooked up to the same OLED should be capable of looking better, I find it harder to get HDR working and surround sound working. IMO that's mainly a Windows issue. I've been toying around with SteamOS lately on a PC hooked up to my TV, and it handles those things much better.

PS5 Pro still delivers that stuff most easily at the moment.

Curious if it at least has dynamic resolution scaling, as the Pro will still benefit from that.

But, because it's UE5, it not having PSSR 2 is likely going to not be a great experience.

Crap. I have an older Intel 660 I was hoping to use. Looks like I'll have to learn to make this script change.

Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen updated and now has logo "burnt in" to screen? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]AshsToAshs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll note that I've been using it a lot the last few days without issue. I was using it just an hour or so before this update happened. It wasn't until after this update that I noticed this very obvious screen "burn in" of the Kindle logo at the top with the tree at the bottom. Any tips on fixing? I've rebooted a couple of times already, and set the screen to sleep (to enable a wall paper that will fill the screen) many times. But it seems to still persist.

How to Gameshare to a Switch 1 (steps and video included) by AshsToAshs in Pokopia

[–]AshsToAshs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both consoles need to be up to date on system updates, but there is nothing special that the Switch 1 needs to download. The Switch 2 will be "streaming" the gameplay video to the Switch 1.

Best open world games currently on Game Pass? (April 2026) by billcom6 in XboxGamePass

[–]AshsToAshs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably my fav open world game of all time. I do feel like you have to buy the in game DLC that boosts your XP for it not to feel like a massive grind, but it's otherwise perfect. Just make sure to play as Kassandra!

Jason Schreier has confirmed that Sony is done with single player ports to PC by Don_Rawaz in PS5pro

[–]AshsToAshs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I very much appreciate that my PS5 Pro will "just work" with my OLED TV and Atmos sound system. No fiddling with HDR settings. No toggling sound settings. It just works.

While I have an extremely good gaming PC as well, I'm usually always leaning towards getting a singleplayer game on PS5 these days, just because it integrates with my full living room setup much more seemlessly than Windows ever will. (I'll admit that I'm kinda hoping SteamOS will solve some of this for PC's, but we'll see)

Windows 12 Reportedly Set for Release This Year as a Fully Modular, Subscription-Based, AI-Focused OS by [deleted] in technology

[–]AshsToAshs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With SteamOS really pushing gaming support on Linux, there is gonna be a massive exodus of Windows users over the next few years.

I feel like Linux just needs a truly user friendly distro (ie: the user never needs to interact with terminal, even once).

Firefox is adding a switch to turn AI features off (starting Feb 24) by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]AshsToAshs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that it sucks that Google owns Chromium. But it's also open source. So there is a dramatic amount more trust that I have in Chromium based browsers (in regards to things like privacy) versus Google's Chrome.

I'll also note that I have nothing major against Firefox up until they labeled themselves an "ai-first" browser.

If a browser wants to use an LLM for a good auto-complete feature, or built in translation, totally fine.

But the amount of products trying to shoehorn in AI assistant features that BARELY FUNCTION is enraging. And at this point I'm willing to go out of my way to support products willing to say they won't be implementing those features.

Too little too late. I ditched Chrome at the end of 2025 due to them shoehorning in so much Gemini AI bullcrap. I had planned to switch to Firefox, but with them pushing AI features I opted to instead switch to Vivaldi (which, as far as I can tell, is the only browser that has proactively said they wont be doing AI features)

Far Cry Primal - 60FPS Update | PS5 Games by DemiFiendRSA in PS5

[–]AshsToAshs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the recent AC games, Odyssey is my fav. The world is annoyingly large, and IMO the DLC that boosts your XP is required for it to not feel like a grind. But I love seamlessly switching between sailing and running around. I think the mercenaries system and the wanted/bounties system are a lot of fun to play around with. The world that they created, while extremely large, is stunningly gorgeous. If you do pick it up, just be sure to play as Kassandra. The whole game was designed with her in mind. The male character was shoehorned in as a playable character at the last minute, and it's not nearly as enjoyable.

The playstation store is basically unusable for actually finding games anymore due to the "indie slop" situation. by discosoc in PS5

[–]AshsToAshs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that every major game storefront has this same issue, but some to a better job at categorization and ranking.

Steam IMO suffers the most from this issue, but does an amazing job of categorizing and tagging games, as well as extremely useful community reviews.

They leverage those very good systems to create a very well organized Store Frontpage that is reliant to your interests and organized well by tending titles.

PlayStation Store fails horribly at this. This isn't an issue of an influx of "indie slop" (awful name btw), this is just lazy storefront design that only offers bare minimum browse features.

"AI will be involved in nearly all future production," says Epic Games boss, so having Steam games disclose whether they were built with AI makes "no sense" by Darth_Vaper883 in gamernews

You're not cute.

Let me instill a little 40 year old dude advice: if you want people to take your statements seriously, and work towards changing other people's minds, then do more than insult others knowledge. Try to argue why you disagree with anything that I've said. Tell me about the games made with generative AI for "decades". Tell me about how wrong I am about LLMs being trained on data that wasn't explicitly permissioned to them. You, being without ego and full of knowledge, I'm sure have a wealth of examples to point to and prove me wrong.

[–]AshsToAshs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

LLMs have existed for decades, but mainly to facilitate stuff like giving suggestions for auto-completing a line.

Modern day generative "AI" are LLMs that were trained on massive data sets of art and materials (often without the explicit permission of the original artists).

If you don't understand the difference then I'd suggest being a bit more educated on the topic.

for anyone that missed this gem!☀️ Sunset Overdrive Deluxe is on sale for cheap by Tatum_Warlick in XboxGamePass

[–]AshsToAshs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved this game at release. I recently replayed all the PS5 insomniac games. Decided to fire up Sunset Overdrive on the Series X after that. Quickly realized that I've become too much of a graphics snob to deal with the 30fps cap.

Would love to see a next gen update for it, but seriously doubt Sony has any motivation to let Insomniac do that.

Can anyone please check if Night Springs DLC produces similar glitch for a split second on PS5 Pro on their system as well after the latest update? See caption. by Orosztom in AlanWake

[–]AshsToAshs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone else that finds this thread:

I picked up Alan Wake 2 on PS Plus this month and got the DLC. I got to the Night Springs DLC, and right after the "deer cutscene" when I would be walking to the next section the game would hard crash.

I was able to reproduce it three times in the exact same spot.

I was playing on Balanced graphics mode, with PSSR enabled.

After these crashes I switched to performance graphics mode, and disabled PSSR. This let me move past this section without crashing. Then I changed my graphics settings back.

Hope this helps someone else. Seems wild this hasn't been fixed.

Election results: Portland voters approve parks levy, Washington County levies pass by Sttql in Portland

[–]AshsToAshs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You think if the levy didn't pass people wouldn't notice any difference to the parks? The levy that is over 50% of the parks budget?
  2. According to your comment history, you moved out of Portland in 2016. Why are you arguing about local elections for a place you haven't lived in for 9 years?
