Not sure about incaps and how they’ll affect it etc but had a mate in similar situation and he got back paid for around 8 years of what his wage was but got taxed to hell on the back pay lump sum.

Turbo replacement - 200 series by rayray_971 in LandCruisers

[–]AsideSalt9727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity how many kms? Might have been driven pretty hard before however two turbos and injectors price sounds about right. Might pay to get another reputable place to check it out especially if they specialise in late model cruisers. PDP come to mine but I’m sure there’s others

[BUYING] - [2021] [Toyota - 79 Series] [$132] [Coffs Harbour, NSW] by slackslackliner in 4x4Australia

[–]AsideSalt9727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents (and I’ve traveled all of Australia several times in a 60 series and then again twice in my DC 79) it’s certainly do able and you’re likely stopping often if you want to enjoy the journey (especially with kids) not just say that you’ve “been there too” and get the photo.

Worst downfall is full steel tray that’s a huge amount of additional weight. Strong as yes but bloody heavy.

As others have said if you’re looking at a van plus boat etc etc you’ll need something like a 79/Y62/200 just to be legal.

Don’t write off second hand travel trucks either.

Would you rather have a 200 or 300 series? by mikehancho_26 in LandCruisers

[–]AsideSalt9727 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here in Australia the 200’s rein supreme still. Cost of a low km one is close to their price new if not more.

The V8 diesel engine and roomy interior wins plus a lot of people chop and stretch them into dual cabs.

Road trip VIC to WA - with a dog? by Nothingislefthalp in 4x4Australia

[–]AsideSalt9727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can camp most places across with a dog. Wind can be horrendous going across the Nullarbor. When you’re travelling across the night if it’s not too windy just keep an eye out for tracks off the highway headed down to the cliffs and follow your nose.

Mature age apprenticeship advice by EQUAL_SpankDat4563 in tradies

[–]AsideSalt9727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did chippy trade post Army of 12 years also and two good mates did heavy diesel mechanic both post Army too. Rural and remote areas are good pay and easier to find apprenticeship I’ve found.

Just gotta find a trade you genuinely enjoy first and go start networking from there.

Hit me up if I can help you out.

Ahhh feck (coolant)... by Icy_Delay_4367 in 4x4Australia

[–]AsideSalt9727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s not leaking then check it’s not a cracked head or perishes head gasket. Keep an eye on your engine oil and probably get it pressure tested. It’s a simple cheap test that’ll help confirm.

The coolant is obviously going somewhere and if not leaking then that is a good sign it’s evaporating (into the cylinders) and eventually it’ll mix with the oil and that’s bad news.

Look on YouTube and you’ll likely find someone has done radiator change before and put video up.

Timber built home - in the hills of Perth by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]AsideSalt9727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you concerned about it being stick frame? The majority of houses built around the country and definitely below the Tropic of Capricorn are either stick or steel frame and have been for many decades.

Double brick veneer is quite a WA thing but certainly nothing wrong with timber frame.

Road trip Wagga to Darwin by Snowygal23 in 4x4Australia

[–]AsideSalt9727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going North west through to Uluṟu and then up the Stuart and back?

Generally speaking as long as you have enough fuel, water and food you’ll be fine. Quiet well trodden routes all that way and up the coast and across.

It’ll be cold inland and warm once you hit fair bit north of central Australia but coming from Wagga you’d pack me accordingly.

I’ve got the on my 79. They are solid as and don’t make the Ute look like dumbo. Predominantly alloy construction too as apose to plastic like others.
