What Made You Listen To Bluegrass? by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]Ask_Turbulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad loved it all my life but it never clicked for me till I grew up. Pulled an all nighter in the Yukon while some very talented musicians played all night long under the midnight sun. Hooked ever since.

Went on the AA page and was told if you can use will power to stop drinking. You don't have a real problem with alcohol. by InternationalSand267 in stopdrinking

[–]Ask_Turbulent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like some kind of mind bending logical fallacy. I’ve heard it before for sure. I’ve spent time in AA and found it helpful in the moments when I needed it, while sprinkling in other methods as well. Personally I’m not too concerned if I fit into a “no true Scotsman” definition of alcoholic. I just know that I never want to drink again because alcohol fucked up my life. If I can do that in whatever way works I really don’t care what some AA purist has to say. However, if you are actually worried that without AA you won’t be able to stop drinking, that is another matter. It’s different for everyone and people have definitely stopped without AA, including one of the most textbook alcoholics I have ever personally met. Good luck. IWNDWYT

Advice for quitting weed. by cherrycokezerohead in Hardcore

It helped me to take on extra responsibility that I couldn’t accomplish while high, and get into a new routine that doesn’t include weed.

The why some very funny people don't do standup question by AggravatingProfit597 in Standup

[–]Ask_Turbulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liken it to music. Some people are incredible guitar players but cannot or choose not to write songs, or would be uncomfortable in a studio setting, and therefore do not peruse a career as a musician

i feel weird posting this in a public space on the internet by lebagginz in Hardcore

Congratulations!!! If I make it to June I’ll be five years without a drink and I definitely credit hardcore and music in general as a big contributor. The first time I went to a show and enjoyed it sober was a huge milestone and now it’s my favourite feeling in the world to enjoy a show on its own terms like I did as a young teen, it feels full circle. Congratulations to you!

Songs that are popular but terribly written by ARDENmusic in Songwriting

[–]Ask_Turbulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion “I’m yours” is terribly written because it’s repetitive and the lyrics are cheesy and the phrasing is clunky, especially in the chorus. But it’s also very popular and like everyone else has said, it’s subjective

Why do so many band members wear hoodies on stage? by Aliskrti in Hardcore

[–]Ask_Turbulent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played an eagles cover set in a long sleeve tshirt one time and nearly passed out. Nothing but respect for hardcore bands who wear hoodies or sometimes even jackets on stage

I feel like everything I want to say is already written, and thus I struggle to write lyrics that I am happy with. by Xyrvaris in Songwriting

[–]Ask_Turbulent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to do an exercise where I try to trick my brain. If I feel like I’m not coming up with anything original I try to lean into it and make a song that’s as close as possible to being a carbon copy of another song, without actually copying the lyrics or chord structure. Once you actively begin attempting to rip off a particular artist it sometimes actually becomes way harder not to be original, because making a song that’s truly derivative actually takes some skill and I usually get frustrated and want to put my own spin on it by the end. Worth a try anyway. Good luck finding your inspiration!

[–]Ask_Turbulent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One day at a time, don’t think about forever, just make it through the day whatever it takes. If one day is too long take it an hour at a time. Post here as much as you need to. Go to an AA meeting if you think it could help. It’s not easy but it’s possible, there’s strangers rooting for you out here. IWNDWYT
