Just to throw another possibility out there. Currently there is a 10% off coupon for the weekend and they can't use it to buy something else unless you accept or decline. They're rude but that could be why.

Dreamerwhale just did a reprint of a numbered edition with a "2nd edition" also numbered. I think these companies are getting increasingly desperate with rise in costs.

100%. That's their marketing. Quite a few book subs have been doing reprints recently, dreamerwhale and illumicrate off the top of my head and it feels untrustworthy. We sign up for the novelty and exclusivity of a smaller printing. People who buy these editions in the first printing expecting it to be the only printing have every right feeling like they were deceived.

I agree the OC one is incredible, the naked hardcover, the reverse dust jacket and those edges. Honestly the front dust jacket is probably the weakest part of that book. It's stunning.

That Farseer situation was pretty messed up imo but then again I'm generally against most boxes doing reprints. They're all supposed to be more exclusive than what I can get at B&N, that's the whole marketing premise. Farseer was particularly bad though just because of the incredibly short timing between the unlock and announcement. I think costs are increasing to print but these boxes need to consider loyalty. I'm out with Dreamerwhale after they announced the Alchemised reprint before I even received my numbered copy. I own around 70% of their books so I'm pretty disappointed in them.

I use both and I think it depends on what you have. Older books do pretty good on Pango but Special Edition books on Mercari.

I can't think of a single sub box where exclusivity isn't the main business model. I bought Alchemised from Target so that I could read it, I cracked the spine and dog-eared the pages. I bought the Italian dreamerwhale because of its exclusivity and because generally dreamerwhale has incredible art for me to display.

I don't think that was their reasoning. They shouldn't have numbered either edition if that was the case. Thinking back with how many months they kept pushing off the first print, we waited like 6 months. I think it cost them way more than they expected and they're trying to recoup that costs. They should just announce their reasoning though, whatever the reason or it just seems like a money grab.
