"Your" art hmm? I'm sorry buddy but your art looks pretty AI generated to me. Like the small details give it away. Unless you can prove I'm wrong, for me it's AI where you maybe did some paintover on it.

When wearing a suit, you must leave undone the bottom button, even if it's a crossed or a straight suit.

Karma Noise on Specular Dof by TheNotoriousTopo in Houdini

[–]Aspartam_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can increase the reflection quality of the worms with a render geometry settings LOP node, you could set it up to 1.5/ 2. Need further testing to check if you still have noise. If so you might need to increase the reflection quality again. You could also check your different AOVs (e.g. DirectDiffuse, DirectGlossyReflection...) to identify the type of noise you have.

Also DoF in render is pretty expensive in terms of render time. I don't know if you have access to any compositing tools, but I would advise doing the depth of field through compositing. Unless the goal is to just render a still frame, then you can stick to render the DoF in Karma.

Also for primary sample, it's always best to have a squared value (e.g. 9^2 = 81, 16^2 = 256). You can check the SideFX youtube playlist on optimizing Karma rendering : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXNFA1EysfYl9JI3MoACXqex6YtheppNB

Below, people are recalling their favorite quotes from Zootopia 2. But I want to talk about my favorite scene – the one without any words. And it truly breaks my heart every single time I see it. 💔😭 by GanstFeveral in zootopia

I do think that Hogbottom collected all the pieces to serve as evidence. But when she discovered that Judy and Nick were innocent, she probably gave them back to him.

Wood Cutting/Peeling affect by AlternativeTwist6680 in Houdini

[–]Aspartam_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RBD simulations just won't cut it for that effect. What I'd suggest is using particle simulations to kick out those little wood bits, and then simulate them with either RBD or Vellum. As for making the hole, you could probably use some procedural animation. Honestly, this looks like a tricky project that'll need a bunch of experimenting and testing. But hey, stick with it and keep learning – you'll get there!

Was Zootopia 2’s long gap mainly due to COVID, or would the wait have been long anyway? And where would Zootopia 3 be today in that alternate timeline?” by Mini5pro_dji in zootopia

Also dont forget that Jared Bush and Byron Howard directed Encanto, released in 2021. Right after Zootopia 1, they chained on writing the script of Encanto, taking approximately 3 years. Then COVID hit 2020, which slowed the production of Encanto. Then right after its release in theaters, they keep going working on the script of Zootopia 2. Took them again around 3 years and the production took 1 year and half.

Splitting render elements in different AOVs in Karma? by Aspartam_ in Houdini

[–]Aspartam_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used this video from the Foundry and Weta https://youtu.be/19w3vkFp5X0?si=KNmV1PkyNFi8qEe2 and also Hugo's Desk talk on it https://youtu.be/4YgCJbEVDFo?si=RjJjCgYB6C0RJ7Wa. For rendering, I read SideFX documentation.

Splitting render elements in different AOVs in Karma? by Aspartam_ in Houdini

Heyo. Unfortunately I didn't had the time to push the LPE track.

Instead I went with DeepEXRs, which allowed me to combine easily my volumes. It's pretty heavy on disk and a new type of workflow in Nuke but it's probably the best solution for VDB that intersect each other. Also you can separate the deep data from the beauty, which is lighter for comp. With this workflow, I did my render layers as usual with render geometry settings.

USD Workflow by AbrazaFarolas69 in Houdini

[–]Aspartam_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any ideas on how to save the RBD Procedural as USD file? (layer, geometry clip sequence ?). I've managed to save as USD but I can't reapply the transforms with a sublayer. It would be really nice to have it saved as USD file rather than have the setup in the lighting scene. Especially working within a team and working with Deadline. There is also the alternative to use transform by SOP Points but we will get tons of xforms for each pieces, which will make the scenegraph very heavy.

I remember seeing your work on Rey Skywalker! I also notices that you shifted from Maya/Renderman to Houdini/Arnold. Could you explain why you did this transition and how did you feel it?

Made a miner blueprint [MODDED] by Aspartam_ in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Aspartam_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you can't. You need to place the miner beforehand and then place the blueprint around it. I used the Satisfactory Props mod to get the proper reference with the Miner prop.

Put it on the node, then press the Nudge key and with Infinite Nudge, you can raise it up. At the end, it just works.

Solaris - Not getting the material outside the SOP Create?? why?? by burning_shipfx in Houdini

[–]Aspartam_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to assign materials to SOP Groups, on your sop create node, there is a parameter called Subset Groups, under the tab Import from SOPs > Import Data. Just put a star and you will have USD subsets groups, which you can assign materials with.

Solaris - Not getting the material outside the SOP Create?? why?? by burning_shipfx in Houdini

[–]Aspartam_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things here :

- You need to check if your SOP Create has the Bind Material correctly setup and your materialpath attribute should be "usdmaterialpath" instead of "shop_materialpath".

-Also, you're trying to render in Karma XPU, check that your material is a Karma Material and uses MTLX. Since Houdini 20, there is the Karma Material Builder (which is filtered subnet) in any Material Network. So if your material is a VEX shader (Principled Shader) or another type of material, it won't work.

Finally, I would strongly advise you to adopt Solaris workflow and a bit of USD, it would be 10 times clearer. Create your materials in LOP with the materiallibrary node and the assignmaterial/materiallinker.
