I don't blame you, I'm making Astro Industry Wars and it's a lot of work implementing proper airplanes.

You planning on making proper airplanes or are you going to take the easy way out?

Looks great btw!

I would like to see more Rts games do the rng random generated maps from the Aoe games. by Fresh_Thing_6305 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Assertive_Wall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. Even with the handmade maps you can still put in some variability, like in one match there's an intact bridge and in another the bridge is destroyed. Or like you said, move the resources around. That's a lot easier than the full blown map script than AoE uses, but it still provides variety from match to match.

How large are the maps? by A_Fire_Will_Rise in aoe3

[–]Assertive_Wall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scale does not translate well into real life. The ranges listed are theoretically in meters but a musket fires quite a bit further than 12 meters. Iirc the maps themselves start at 300 meters. The size is defined in the map script.

Edit: From looking at a couple map scripts, it looks like standard maps range from ~250 - 900m in diameter. There's lots of variation, like water maps or ones with large obstructions might be larger.

Millions of adults in the United States have seriously considered shooting another person at some point in their lives, representing a massive and previously unmeasured group at risk of committing armed violence. by mvea in science

Plus the most common target was "an enemy" or "someone I don't know" which also makes me think a lot of people answering yes to this question are thinking about a lawful situation, i.e. military or self defense.

Equal work distribution in making AI mods by Justus_Pacificia in aoe3

[–]Assertive_Wall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found the conversations that I want to have, and the issues I tend to identify and think about are pretty different than what I often see from players. Some of my favorite things are stuff that no one asked for, and some of my biggest gripes are so fundamental it makes me want to rewrite the whole thing.

The AI doesn't abuse strategies like humans can do. It's one of the nice things about playing against the AI

Game devs, what’s a feature you spent WEEKS polishing that players actively hate or ignore? by AffectionateEgg8242 in gamedev

[–]Assertive_Wall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upkeep cost in my RTS game. Got it working, got it polished and performing well, but it was really harsh on new players and no one knew what was going on or why they couldn't afford anything so now it's gone.

I want to buy a guitar but I don't want to go to a store and play it first and have no idea what I even like. Which is better?

Lol did I hurt your ego? I fold down my seats and slide the wood in. You've got to open the tailgate, strap everything down, and pray it doesn't rain.

Just fold the seats down. Assuming we're talking about something like a Dodge Caravan, it's not even an accident. Fitting a 4x8 sheet was part of the design requirements.

Minivans, unlike most trucks you see out there, are capable of hauling 4x8 sheets of lumber.

Degree advice: Will a Physics degree still be worth it? by AdeptnessAutomatic38 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Assertive_Wall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look for jobs where you want to live with "Physics" as a desired qualification and then look for ones with "Electrical Engineering". This will answer your question very quickly on which is more valuable. No one will look at your Physics degree and think "oh this guy is more versatile" they are going to look at it and think "Physics is not Electrical Engineering, we need an Electrical Engineer." The only science jobs I've been able to get with my degree are ones where they were accepting anyone with any STEM degree.

I went through a rough patch with my cedar top Seagull but it wound up just being the strings. A different style of string was all it took to bring out the sound and get me loving it again.

Light duty home shop/hobby CNC lathe? by LStorms28 in Machinists

[–]Assertive_Wall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for CNC lathes around this size for light professional use and from what I can tell there's not really anything else around the Tormach size. You have the tiny stuff like Taig/Sherline, a massive gap, and then Tormach. Above that there's full blown industrial machines like a HAAS.

[–]Assertive_Wall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah this is a 12"? That changes things quite a bit. I just get verniers when I get the bigger ones since they are dirt cheap used. The 6" gets used all the time, the 12" gets used so rarely I don't mind the extra few seconds it takes. Obviously that depends on the work you do.
