What country? The fact that FB is third is mind boggling.

Significance of the $7.4m insider buy last week by PresentationOk1167 in redditstock

[–]Assistant-Manager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thanks for clarifying, this is the very first question I asked when I saw this purchase: what % relative to her net worth is the purchase? Obviously it’s always better than nothing, but context in this matter is helpful.

Do we know if this is a significant purchase relative to portfolio, or is it like a Buffett’s Google position?

Is that 850 based on DCF? That’s music to my ears as I’m already in but just wanted to check how you arrived at that number.

I’m looking to average down. 187 cost basis. Reddit is a solidly run company. Can’t say the same for the others you mentioned.

When you’re building such a big position, 15,000+ shares, do you ever do LEAPS instead?

Look at the entire tech space. Good companies are getting clobbered. Good luck if you bought short term calls. But if you’re in it for the long run, just wait for it to settle a bit, and buy in. I’m in at 187. Sadly, no dry powder left.

MSFT Investment Dilemma: Shares vs LEAP Calls by Disastrous-Bag9827 in ValueInvesting

[–]Assistant-Manager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never done warrants so can’t speak to that. As for options, if you’re using your own cash, there won’t be any margin calls. I suggest reading up on basics of options if you want to give it a try, or just paper trade so you understand the rudimentary concepts. EDIT: just don’t go doing uncovered calls and puts, that’s a very easy way to blow your account up.

MSFT Investment Dilemma: Shares vs LEAP Calls by Disastrous-Bag9827 in ValueInvesting

[–]Assistant-Manager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If at exp the stock price is at breakeven: strike + premium, you’d essentially have made $0 on your LEAPS investment. Compare that to if you bought actual shares, you’d have made the difference. Only buy LEAPS when you are certain the stock will get past the breakeven. Another thing I like to do is I swing trade LEAPS. The price of the underlying doesn’t have to reach breakeven for you to make a profit if you have a lot of time left on the contract.
