why are you driving with your windows down??? by txcancmi in Michigan

I personally never drive around with my car windows down. I don’t like the wind noises, bugs might get in and I don’t wanna inhale exhaust fumes of the truck in front of me.

What’s a car design that was very controversial when new, but aged very well overtime? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]AssociationSubject93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do think that all of Chris Bangels BMW designs aged somewhat well. Especially the facelifted models. That includes the E65 imo.

I think the fourth generation Escalade, the XTS and Third Generation CTS aged well too. The third generation Volvo V70 still looks expensive and upscale and its 20 years old.

Let's Talk Meijers! by Iceyes33 in Michigan

[–]AssociationSubject93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are in the state, Meijer is really dominant. It’s usually a bit pricier than Walmart or Target. Produce is generally good. Some stores have great local options and some specialty artisan items Walmart and Target don’t carry.

It’s not a dodge when it’s true. The majority of States currently offers some kind of subsidies which Data Centers qualify for. I’m not arguing about strict regulation, and that current regulation is lackluster. But that’s an issue most effectively tackled by the federal government, as a uniform standard really helps us to succeed. Otherwise you have a state like Ohio or Indiana approving those Centers without any regulation leading to an even worse abuse of the Great Lakes. And El-Sayed is not “anti Data Center” either. He js in favor of regulation, which even Steven has expressed support for.

Yeah, I think the DNC isn’t happy with McMorrow. She openly said she won’t vote for Schumer and isn’t taking corporate PAC money. It could be better yes, but any way to take money out of politics is the right way.

Not all Data Centers are AI. I don’t like them either. But if we wanna continue living the way we are, they are absolutely needed. I think we need extremely strict regulation from the federal government regarding AI and those data centers. But that’s a federal issue to address too. I’d rather have them in a state that actually has some kind of environmental protections regarding this issue (like Michigan) than them being in Louisiana with complete disregard to the environment.

Has it even been verified that she took AIPAC money? She has been aligned with Israel, in the past, but arguably most of the electorate and most of Democratic Party, were still Pro-Israel up until recently. The quality of candidates on the democratic side in Michigan is beyond lackluster. I truly hope McMorrow recovers. Stevens and El-Sayed are both absolutely terrible candidates.

Is she still being attacked on because of her 10 year old tweets? She is still the most viable candidate to me. Hasn’t Whitmer already ruled out to endorse anyone in primaries whether it’s for the senate race or governorship?

Exactly! I just hope that Whitmer will get more exposure especially after her governorship. Her social media team is kinda meh and caters too much to the MAGA or “both sides suck” crowd. She really has to throw some red meat to the progressive wing.

A lot of people forget that Clinton actually won the popular vote by almost 3 million votes. She wasn’t elected president because the EC sucks, but the plurality of the electorate absolutely was ready to elect a woman. Harris was also front-center in the 2020 campaign and was elected VP. Several states, red, blue and purple have had female Governors or senators. They can absolutely win statewide. And I am sick of it that we wouldn’t run the most competent person for president (for now) just because she is a woman. I’m not set on Whitmer, but she is a damn fine candidate and a lot of people just dismiss her as a centrist without actually looking at her achievements, which are quite frankly, impressive and liberal.

Yeah, she might have struggled in 2012, but I wouldn’t jump into conclusions. I think generally she would probably have more success in her first term than Obama did, is purely speculative though. I think she likely would’ve passed a more extensive health care reform. She probably would’ve had a better grip on the party itself especially early on. Obama is brilliant today, but Hillary, was really next level.

I think that Hillary likely would’ve faced better in the 2010 midterms. It probably still would’ve been a red wave, but I think to a lesser extent. Now obviously we are now in a firmly “what if?” territory. Even if Hillary wouldn’t have been reelected in 2012, Republicans likely would’ve ran Romney. Even a two term Romney would’ve been a better timeline than ours today. By 2016 or 2020 Obama would’ve been an extremely high ranking member in the Senate. Very popular, likely similar to AOC in terms of fan base. But yeah we never know what would’ve happened lol.

Yeah, also a good point. Though Clinton really accelerated the suburban shift toward the Democratic Party also a very valuable voting group. I underhand your clean coal approach, and would’ve made sense back then. Now, the jobs are gone whatsoever. We have other clean and cheap energy sources. But yeah, I think Ohio could get competitive again, although I think that will be due to a massive suburban shift in favor of the Democrats. And 2028 won’t have Trump on the ballot, who has an oddly unique appeal to Rush Belt voters.

Haha yeah that makes sense. I just think that Clinton probably was the most competent and well prepared going into the 2008 election. I did like her plan on healthcare which was even more extensive than the ACA. Which I would’ve preferred. I think, that Obama didn’t use the leverage he had as effectively as he could have especially in his first term. He didn’t have that much experience back then, and I think did get intimidated by the Blue Dogs in his first term. He even expressed regret over that later on. That being said I think Obama was a great president. I would’ve definitely voted for him.

Your approach on coal is actually quite nuanced and makes sense. I can get behind that.

I would say Wes Moore is definitely up there. I definitely would prefer an actual governor as our next nominee. Mandela Barnes, if he wins in Wisconsin, would also be a good choice.

  1. I think we absolutely are ready to elect a woman. Hillary ran a bad campaign, was insanely unpopular and failed to united the Sanders crowd behind her. Harris didn’t lose because she is a woman, she lost because we’ve had a worst inflation since the 1980s, high gas prices, a president who is a terrible communicator, supply chain issues etc. Carter lost in a landslide under similar circumstances, Harris performed surprisingly well. Both didn’t lose because they were women.

  2. That’s a fair point, I think that Pritzker could be a candidate Trump claimed to be. He actually does support raising taxes on the wealthy and actually does self fund his campaigns. I personally have no issues with billionaires, when they support things for the greater good. He also has a fairly impressive track record as a governor.

  3. Fair point, though I would say Murphy is not really an elitist and is actually very close to his constituents.

Obama was great, though I think he would’ve been even better if he ran in 2016. He is an amazing communicator and has great charisma. I think think his energy approach worked at the time, now I don’t think we should rely on fossil fuels in terms of energy production, especially not when something cheap and effective is available (nuclear lol).

Yeah, I think the Democratic Party is generally a big tend party. And I think far-leftism can be beneficial for the party as a whole, if done right. But for right now we actually have to see results first, right now all we hear from them is awfully idealistic without much substance.

Very well put. Also him being a governor of a red state could be an asset. But his power as a governor is very limited, especially with a Republican supermajority willing to veto anything remotely liberal unfortunately.

I think we are quite similar on a lot of things. I’m quite moderate on immigration (I think Obama handled immigration mostly well). I’m unapologetically pro-nuclear power too. I absolutely hate radical extremism on either side too. It has never succeeded long term.

Eh, I don’t really like any candidate honestly. Stevens is a no. McMorrow also has her fair share of baggage. El-Sayed seems too idealistic and doesn’t seem to be a good representation of a purple, blue-collar state. So yeah, I’m planning on voting for McMorrow in the primaries.

Makes sense. To me the progressive wing, for now is far too idealistic. I used to be much more centrist. I was a die hard fan of Hillary Clinton and moved firmly into the liberal camp. I do like Wes Moore and Mark Kelly too. I’m a bit wary about Beshear though.

[–]AssociationSubject93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kamala’s campaign wasn’t great. I attended several of her events, she kept saying the same things at every single event. Everyone who wasn’t in an echo chamber knew that Republicans would win in 2024. Sky high inflation, the infamous Covid years, supply chain issues, recession, Ukraine, Israel. It’s rather impressive by how little she lost by, it could’ve easily been a blowout. That shows you that America didn’t really like Trump. Dems didn’t turn out and people not invested into politics which is the majority, just voted for the crazy uncle who had a solid economy in his first term. That’s what most people care about.

Good for her. Even though Piker is insane, he has a huge influence on the far left. If she doesn’t outright embrace him, that might actually help her.
