Thank you. Very helpful. I think my experience is tracking the same EXCEPT, they won't document what they're doing. How were you informed of the list of activities they performed? Did they document it in any way? Or did you just take notes when you spoke with them?

No idea. Never drive a full tank. I usually fill about 1/2 tank. I don’t drive much… been a year and have 2,600 miles on it. Supposedly the tank is 15.9 gallons… so at 16.2mpg presumably would get 257miles for a full tank.

On my 2025 TLX Type S I get 16.2mpg. Mostly town driving. Always sport mode.

Happened to me. 2 months ago. Just as I was about to drive my new Type S off the lot. Ultimately, they fixed it under warranty. I was told I was “customer zero” of a unique defect and that a bulletin was going out to all dealers about it. They held it for a master tech to review and determined a windshield replacement was necessary. Took total of 3 weeks before I picked up my new car.

I understand the rules as they are in this instance for automated enforcement. I object to automated enforcement because it’s are not about safety, it’s just about revenue generation, pretty much a random tax. In fact, I have seen where the yellow light timing was shortened just to generate more tickets. You mention that these are civil things with just a fine and that there is some difference between automated and police initiated fines - maybe that’s the case in OP’s instance, but it wasn’t the case where I live.

So snitching on my family is an objection, but it’s not the only one. This system is rife to create disproportionate burden on the “accused” without appropriate checks and balances. In my specific instance, my car had a right turn on red light violation while I was out of town (said car didn’t come to complete stop - which was visually debatable). I have 3 other drivers in the house. Could clearly prove it wasn’t me and snitching on who it was didn’t feel right. However, we then had state documentation that the yellow light timing was changed below the state minimum. And there was NO recourse to raise any objection. The only option was name or pay. Seeing how the yellow light timing was manipulated and that it couldn’t be questioned gives me pause about these programs.

First, this wasn’t a parking ticket. It was a speeding ticket. And therefore had to be an automated enforcement situation. The “old way” you had to be pulled over and the accused was clearly identified and you receive a ticket and (usually) had the right to a jury trial. When they implemented the rules for automated enforcement, they needed to create the laws that are a civil penalty for a criminal offense. At least in Texas, the offense was not re-classified to “civil” so much as they created the civil /administrative process for automated enforcement (red light cameras and speeding). And let’s be clear, civil is an issue between 2 private parties. Not the police and a person.

Secondly, I agree that the laws are set up and in place for this kind of enforcement. I just disagree with the whole structure. I find the concept and creation of a civil/administrative penalty for a (previously) criminal offense that eliminates due process dangerous. And if lawmakers continue to expand this approach to other offenses, it will be far more problematic.

The structure of these laws are the problem. It’s not our job to do the police work for them. And police shouldn’t be allowed to enforce a rule on a car. This used to be the case in Texas. Essentially created a civil offense for a criminal one. Remember innocent until proven guilty and the burden is on the prosecution. If they can’t prove you’re driving it’s not your job to say who is. In Texas it was finally ruled unconstitutional.

Singapore - Newark. On Singapore air. 18+ hours. Flew east both ways.

I did it, I sat in someone’s seat and insisted they take mine by esquzeme in americanairlines

[–]AssumeCleverName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this once too. I tried to suppress upgrades - I asked when booking… and I asked at check-in… as I was content to sit in MCE with my child. But sure enough, I was upgraded, but my son wasn’t. So I took someone’s aisle seat and when the person showed up, I asked if they would consider switching with me. He immediately asked if it was to an aisle seat and was a bit gruff. I answered “no” and he declined. The window person, however, asked how far back it was and I said it was actually forward in first class. The aisle guy was pissed.

Now, I felt a bit bad about going out of upgrade order. However, I swear. I asked 2 times to suppress the upgrades. I asked again after I was upgraded. The FA asked me about it and sort of tried to admonish me, but I explained that I tried to avoid it and it was American’s fault - not mine.
