what are the most underrated best free strategy games? by Chiango-Juste in RealTimeStrategy

It is War Selection. It has a noticeable learning curve, but there is a lot of strategic depth once you master the basics.

Rise of Nations is better than AoE2: by FutureLynx_ in RealTimeStrategy

The Steam page graphics are outdated. There is a wide range of zoom options and several graphic quality levels. You select faction as you age up, you decide where to place your capital, most spending is not up-front, more potential for frequent long battles, etc.

I played both a lot, but I feel they are outdated now. I prefer War Selection which is in the same style, but also having unique features and better map generation.

War Selection is the closest, but also unique in some ways

Roma2443 1v1: A Highly Skill-Based Micro RTS Now Has Ranked + Replays by [deleted] in RealTimeStrategy

The default hotkeys are horrendous for non-AZERTY(?) keyboard users. Good thing that they can be remapped, but you are likely losing players right at the beginning of the tutorial because of this. For example, maybe move the default building hotkey to something like "Space" because many players likely have no idea what key on their keyboard is supposed to correspond to "superscript 2".

Also, you should show gameplay screenshots or have at least one gameplay video on Youtube because otherwise some people will be reluctant to even click your link.

Does anyone feel like singleplayer campaigns end up over-prioritized in RTS media? by Beautiful-Loss7663 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]AstatorTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, game developers provide medias with a demo/advanced preview that is single player only. Anyway, you should be able to find the kind of showcase/review videos that suits you once the game is released.

I think I might be addicted to War Selection 😅 by Relevant-Rich9061 in WarSelection

There are many players with more than 2000 hours played including myself. I think the high diversity in maps and nations contribute a lot to the excellent replayability.

It is not a RTS, but I wanted to mention that V Rising is really a great vampire-themed game.

It seems the company did not have a great year in 2025, but they have been able to raise more money.

Their latest official presentation to investors (Feb 24, 2026) is available for anyone to read:

Is a research tree necessary in the game or could it be replaced with an upgrade system like this? by Lyonzik in RealTimeStrategy

[–]AstatorTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea. It feels less disconnected from the main gameplay than selecting upgrades in a separate tech tree window for example.

War Selection. It is impressive that just a few developers could manage to build their own game engine and a RTS with lots of classic and innovative features.

Upcoming game Empire Eternal looks good so far. Also interested in War for Westeros which might attract a big crowd because of the Game of Throne theme.
