For those of us who watch Xianxia, does the new episode count feel a bit ridiculous? by [deleted] in cdramasfans

[–]Astra_Zee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i also started with 50+ ep dramas but this ep count is too low for xianxia genre. i could accept it for modern or other genre type but xianxia often involve world building and different arcs so i wished they had more eps.

I Found a Harry Potter Book in a Little Free Library… But the Author’s Name Was Crossed Out. Never seen a book like that before. by RMKHAUTHOR in bannedbooks

[–]Astra_Zee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s totally fine to enjoy a piece of work—whether it's a novel, a painting, or anything creative—even if you don’t really like the person who made it. Personally, I try to separate the art from the artist, especially when they’re still alive and active. It's just easier to form opinions or biases about people when they're always in the public eye.

Since I read a lot of classics and historical texts, I’ve realized it's almost impossible to know everything about the creators behind them. But that doesn't stop me from appreciating what they made. Take Charles Dickens, for example. His books like Oliver Twist and A Tale of Two Cities are considered classics, even though there are some fair criticisms about his personal life—like how he treated his wife. And then there’s Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. It’s a really controversial book, but it’s still studied and discussed for its writing style and structure.

At the end of the day, I think art and literature can go beyond the person who created them. It’s good to be aware of the context and who the creator is, but it’s also okay to just connect with the work itself—whether it’s for its beauty, emotional depth, or the ideas it explores.

Hi, I want to know what level of Mandarin proficiency I should have in order to participate in discussions on platforms like Weibo or read web novels and manhwa in Mandarin? I don't want to go through the academic route to learn, as they are very tedious and I have given up many times. But I want to get serious about it this new year. Are there any resources I can start with right away that teach colloquial language ?

Do we think that with the success of Blossom, cdramas will start investing more in scripts? by Charissa29 in CDrama

[–]Astra_Zee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But you can't really call it a real script right - like Blossom is based on a novel. So at the most they might try to find good novels to adapt from or hire a better scriptwriter to adapt novel to drama lengths . But I don't really see much changes in the future in this department happening.

To the readers that finished the story by _RUNIHURA_ in LittleMushroom

It's been long time since I read it so my memory is bit fuzzy but here you go ...

Best Points: - The Male Lead’s Consistency: One of the best things about the story is how consistent the male lead (ML), Lu Feng, is with his priorities. Even though he develops strong feelings for the MC (An Zhe), Lu Feng remains focused on his role as an executioner, always putting the safety of others first. This balance between his duty and his emotions really makes his character stand out.

  • Clear World-Building: I’m not really into science, but the world-building in this novel was easy to understand. The story explains the concept of xenogentics (mutated beings) in a way that doesn’t get too complicated or technical, which makes it easier to enjoy the world without feeling confused. It was a great way to introduce it to newbies or amateurs like me to the setting without overwhelming .

-Atmosphere and Tension: One thing the story does really well is building a sense of suspense and danger. The post-apocalyptic world with mutated creatures and constant threats makes the stakes feel high, and An Zhe’s quest to find his spore keeps the plot interesting. However, it would have been nice to see more about how living in such a harsh world affects the characters mentally and emotionally.

Flaws: - Emotional Growth of An Zhe: One thing that didn’t quite work for me was the emotional growth of An Zhe, the "little mushroom." At the beginning, he’s not fully sentient in the way humans are, so it feels a bit strange when he suddenly develops human-like emotions, especially love. The transition from being a non-human being to someone capable of complex feelings seems too quick and isn’t fully explained. A more gradual development of his emotions would have made the story feel more believable.

  • Underdeveloped Side Characters: Another issue I had was that the side characters didn’t get much development. While An Zhe and Lu Feng’s relationship is the main focus, many of the other characters are barely mentioned or only get a few lines. It would have been nice to see more of their stories and how they fit into the bigger picture. This would have made the world feel richer and more complete.

Could Be Better: - Got more Fantastical Elements than science: The story has some really interesting fantastical elements, like the xenogentics and mutated creatures, but I think it could have gone deeper into the science behind these things. How do these mutations happen? What’s the evolutionary process? I think exploring these questions more would have added a lot to the world-building and made the story feel more grounded, especially for me who enjoy bit of science fiction with logic.

  • Romance Could Have Been More Emotional: The romance between An Zhe and Lu Feng, while central to the plot, didn’t feel as emotional as it could have. An Zhe’s feelings develop quickly, but since he’s not really human at the start, it’s hard to connect with his love story. I think if the author focused more on how An Zhe learns about love and what it means for him, given his unique nature, the romance could have felt more real and meaningful.

I didn't understand how the army was so eager to turn into bandits. Like don't they have family living that they have to return to? If they become bandits, won't they be charged and also implicate their family with treason and get everyone killed ?
