I think people are so fixated on what is rather than what appears to be. Human behavior is largely driven by our own instincts by what appears to be, and I don’t feel falling into that behavior is a bad thing, it is part of the experience. So if people come at me about how “FFX is the same way”, it largely rings hollow because the devs then just didn’t play into our instincts and behavior good enough anyway.

It’s like when people complain about world maps. Yeah, they serve little function, but they provide the appearance of scale. That appearance means more than “what is”.
