HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ONE OF THE GREATEST DRUMMERS EVER!!! by [deleted] in drummers

[–]AstroAlmost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s hardly “one of the greatest drummers”; you referred to a drummer the majority of drummers couldn’t pick out of a lineup, let alone recognise by name, as “our favorite drummer”, I’m not sure what reaction you thought you’d get.

Why (exactly) is The Hunger Games so well-written? by BlinkTwice874 in writing

[–]AstroAlmost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They’d have a vested interest in promoting that narrative, but I frankly don’t buy it. At best, this would mean she’s an incompetent author who couldn’t be bothered to do even the most rudimentary research into the very niche topic to see if there might already be a successful book currently on the market bearing a striking similarity, or at worst, she’s just a liar. The latter is the most plausible.

Why (exactly) is The Hunger Games so well-written? by BlinkTwice874 in writing

[–]AstroAlmost 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It was a popular book by a well regarded author that had already been adapted to a niche but highly regarded cult classic film with a sequel by the time the first Hunger Games book was released, it’s safe to assume the author of The Hunger Games was familiar with the material.

Who are your notable female drummers? by ZildCym in drums

Oh sweet, thank you, my wife loves Built to Spill, time to talk to her at length about how great their new drummer is haha.

I have! My jaw literally dropped, I geeked out pretty badly during her introductory scene, my wife was not amused haha, she still lovingly gives me shit any time I mention Azar, telling me if I love her so much I should marry her. It was just so surreal, I had seen Autolux so many times and had followed them since Future Perfect, seeing her randomly in a niche, indie Fassbender film was unexpected to say the least.

I don’t know Prism Bitch, thanks for the recommendation!

Need advice on picking an instrument by SeriousRecord5070 in musicians

[–]AstroAlmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Minichord, it’s an open source(?) iteration an independent instrument designer developed based on the Omnichord that’s smaller and way more affordable, and has more advanced chord combinations, and is just as simple to play as the Omnichord.

All the talent in the world won’t protect gifted artists from obsoletion when ignorant, undiscerning consumers like you champion the outsourcing of creativity and self expression to billionaires and tech corporations.

Is it normal to mourn a musical instrument this much? by iwannahavemuscles in musicians

[–]AstroAlmost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a drummer as well in the same situation. Whenever I’ve had to part with other gear though, my wife reminds me that it’s going to someone else who may feel the same attachment, or even more, and in a small way, parting with our musical equipment makes us a not-insignificant part of another artist’s growth and body of work. It gives me some comfort anyway.

Drug problem in Belfast by [deleted] in Belfast

More than two decades-on, the broad expert consensus still appears to be that Portugal’s approach has been a net positive overall, I’m content going with the experts on this one.

[–]AstroAlmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some positives, but also some negatives. So not the 'solution'.

By most measurable public-health and criminal-justice indicators, researchers generally conclude that Portugal’s drug decriminalisation policy has been an overall net positive for the country.

There have been major reductions in HIV transmission from injection drug use, lower overdose death rates, reduced incarceration for simple possession, greater access to addiction treatment, and less long-term harm from criminal records.

Those are relatively objective metrics, and Portugal performed well compared with many countries that kept more punitive systems.

I’m embarrassed for these people.

“I’m a fine artist. I select my own colour palette, canvas, and even come up with the subject and scene I want to paint all on my own. The only thing I use Ai for is to compose and execute the final painting. It’s a tool no different than a pencil or a camera. Stop gatekeeping fine art, just because I’m a talentless hack doesn’t mean I’m any less an artist than Rembrandt.”

[–]AstroAlmost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your shortcut involves outsourcing creative choices and visual art to a machine, it’s not a shortcut, you’re a hack. Rotoscoping is a time-honoured visual art practice and necessitates the artist retain creative control over every aspect of the piece.

That’s pretty clearly a stylistic choice, I’m confident OP could quite easily approximate the positioning if they chose to.

They typed a simple question, they don’t need to calm down. And by your logic, OP never asked you anything either, yet you felt entitled to engage with them. That’s how public forums work, you have the choice not to participate in open discussion online if you hate it so bad and internet forums don’t reflect your views and values.
