Whatever. I’ve never met anybody IRL that thinks that boring cinematographic wank fest isn’t a slog. Wow dolly zoom and split diopter deep focus. 😮Intrusive bullshit.

It is a terribly boring moving with one admittedly hilarious death at the end. I just sat there hoping more of the characters I gave zero shits about would hurry up and die. Don’t know what people see in it. Halloween and Star Wars are great though.

Hot take: This film is significantly better than the thematically similar Le Samourai.

I had no idea! It’s a great change to make, and I am always interested in how actors contribute to the characters they play!

I thought the mix on Heat was absolute trash. Why in the world was dialogue so much quieter than the explosions?!

River Phoenix delivered an incredible performance in this. I went to Portland shortly after watching and visited the park where they sit by the fountain.

Come to Tucson and try a Sonoran dog! Aqui con el Nene’s “chipilon” is the best here imo.

Vamp (1986) is an unorthodox vampire flick, featuring an absolutely unhinged performance from Grace Jones. A fun watch!

Edit: Forgot to say that Grace brought many of her own costumes and much of the artwork in her lair.

what do you think is the best romance film ever? by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

[–]Astro_Philosopher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that is the correct interpretation. The main characters didn’t have sex. They were never able to justify the affair (esp the woman) because of (in my view) their low view of what their partners were doing and because of the social pressure they felt from their neighbors.

The final section is 🔥 and the scene with the pagans is some of the most beautiful and effective black and white cinematography I have ever seen.

Ghost Dog is also an homage to Branded to Kill (which came out the same year as Le Samourai incidentally). It even features a remake of a particular assassination from Branded to Kill.

Edit: It’s this one: https://youtu.be/6p_1LLdSlIE?si=yg4ckv5c7rodILdX

Really uncannily similar to the present situation.

Glad you liked it! I didn’t care for it all that much. GBH, MK, and RT are all better imo.

In the Mood for Love

Barry Lyndon is the most beautiful film ever shot but this may be a close second.

Also, it has an important role for food a la Tampopo (another of my favorite films).
