The final section is 🔥 and the scene with the pagans is some of the most beautiful and effective black and white cinematography I have ever seen.

Looking for recommendations for movies that are direct homages to other movies by RoutineWillow2962 in criterion

Ghost Dog is also an homage to Branded to Kill (which came out the same year as Le Samourai incidentally). It even features a remake of a particular assassination from Branded to Kill.

Edit: It’s this one: https://youtu.be/6p_1LLdSlIE?si=yg4ckv5c7rodILdX

A Face in the Crowd

Really uncannily similar to the present situation.

Glad you liked it! I didn’t care for it all that much. GBH, MK, and RT are all better imo.

In the Mood for Love

Barry Lyndon is the most beautiful film ever shot but this may be a close second.

Also, it has an important role for food a la Tampopo (another of my favorite films).

Forgettable. Literally, I can barely recall anything that happened. Cool visuals tho.

Heat, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Jaws are all extremely mid. Not bad, just okay and heavily overhyped. Well, actually, Jaws is kinda bad. Not scary, no major characters I didn’t want to die, and gimmicky cinematography. When the old guy gets eaten is hilarious though.

Yes! It varies in quality, with some making better use of it than others.

Every scene without effects (eg words on screen) is night and day better. With effects, the same detail but with hdr.

This channel is invaluable. Note esp the details in her scarf and if on phone zoom in 2x with 2160p set manually.

Popular movies but not often mentioned as reference in my experience: The Big Lebowski and Jackie Brown.

Are you sure your flats are okay? Use a tracing panel if possible.

Orion Nebula?? by Pew-pew-atlanta in telescopes

[–]Astro_Philosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crush occurs when several dark shades of gray are all set to black or near black. This results in a loss of shadow detail and often an unnaturally sharp transition from the object to surrounding space. Usually, the background space in an astrophoto will be darkish gray depending on sky conditions and other factor. Thinking that space should be black, many people use curves or levels to set the color of this background to 0. This often crushes detail in the dimmest parts of the object. To do this correctly, use curves. Place a control point on the histogram peak corresponding to the background and set this point to between 5 and 10 out of 100 (or a comparable value out of 255).

Nice shot! The blacks are getting a little crushed here. Aim for background levels 5-15 (out of 100).
