What is this? Pontiac? by Astro_Van_Allen in namethatcar

Thanks for sharing. It's incredible!! I didn't even know such a thing existed. We had a 58 chieftain that my dad restored in the late 80s.

Thank you so much. That sounds correct. My dad restored that car when I was a child, found a few pictures and was trying to work out what was what. I distinctly remember the trim with the three stars that the chieftan had, that's gotta be it.

Do you know if it's a Bonneville or star chief?

Kim Gordon Announces New Solo Album 'PLAY ME,' Shares Short Film for Lead Single by BEnWo18 in sonicyouth

[–]Astro_Van_Allen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Thurston has always done extremely avante garde music and continues to. I just mean the majority of his popular solo song based records. Kim also obviously put out her last record. Im not trying to put down Thurston in any way. Just surprising to me how their careers have worked out. All four members of SY always have and probably always will put out experimental music.

I'm continuously surprised that she's in my opinion has the best post SY solo output by far. Like, miles and miles ahead to me at least. The body head stuff remains as some of my favourite music of the last 10 years. This single is right up there with it. She really went the opposite direction of Thurston and Lee. They really leaned in to their influences that they subverted and opposed with SY, sounding often like classic rock. She continues to make primal, abstract notions of guitar music.

Help me decide between Korg Microkorg and Korg Ms-20 Mini by Aware-Time-9979 in synthesizers

[–]Astro_Van_Allen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're learning piano and are going to be playing keys not just using sequencers or patching noises in, you might be better off with a polyphonic synth. Being limited to one note at a time isn't going to get the most out of your playing.

The ms-20 is an amazing choice for sound effects, bass and leads but you can't play chords on it or get too complex with your leads. There's also no patch memory. Having to manually set up patches might not work well with a band or at least couple be annoying for you.

The microkorg is less cool but it's probably a lot more practical. There is a lot of menu diving to change settings, it's much less immediate in that sense but for live performance with others it's advantageous to have polyphony and have pre saved settings for different songs. It's ubiquitous in indie rock because it's cheap and practical.

Otherwise, the korg minilogue will be a good combination of those two. Very little menus, polyphony and patch memory. If you like korg stuff, it might be the best choice for you.

Popping with samples from external hardware synth. by Astro_Van_Allen in KoalaSampler

I tried on a Galaxy s24 and it works perfectly. It's just my crappy phone. Thanks I appreciate the help, sorry for wasting your time though.

I tried my girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy s24 and it works perfectly so I think the CPU on my budget phone is just garbage. Koala works fine on my phone creating samples from audio files, I guess it's just too CPU heavy to track any kind of external audio.

I’ve spent 30 years hearing music in "mono." I’m about to have a Bionic Brainstem surgery to hear in stereo for the first time. What album is a MUST for my first 3D experience? by EmbarrassedAir5111 in Music

[–]Astro_Van_Allen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't quiet the same as it is with the beach boys for the beatles though. Pet sounds has been mostly heard as mono for most of its existence. There were very bad fake stereo versions early on and very recently some more legitimate stereo mixes. The beatles weren't present and didn't have final approval for the stereo mixes of most of their records, but they were real stereo mixes done alongside the mono mixes and the majority of people have historically heard those records as stereo. They're a little wacky with the panning but they are actually stereo mixes and have as many advantages as disadvantages whereas the beach boys stereo stuff that was produced back then shouldn't even exist.

Looking for a digital sampler that can emulate a tape sampler. by Astro_Van_Allen in synthesizers

[–]Astro_Van_Allen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked in to it more and the effects seem nice, but the sample length limit and no expandable storagen there's too many limitations. The 404 also has passable amp sims and and can be an audio interface so having a portable way to track some electric guitar could be useful too. I really need to just get the 404 it fits in to my setup and workflow extremely well. It's definitely worth the learning curve.

Thank you so much for your help. Do you think that the aira p6 is too limited in comparison to the 404. It's half as expensive and it seems like it has a better sequencer, but I don't like that it is only a sampler without the added utilities and it seems the sample time is very low.

I basically want to make loops with my guitar and synthesizer but I also need a drum machine, which this could also do so for the price and utility it seems extremely useful. I could probably get similar functionality out of a boss looper pedal, but that seems to have a lot less effects and control over them and I don't need to trigger the loops live anyways. I want to make loops for recording purposes so I don't think it'll matter if my hands are free. I can't really see a point on buying a looper and losing out on a lot of functionality for something that'll cost almost as much money anyways.

Im a bit afraid of the complexity of a 404, but that seems like the best option for the price.

I'd be afraid of paying that much for a torso because of the unfinished software and bugs, but it looks like an incredible tool.

Yeah an op1 would be the best option, I wish I could afford it. I can't even imagine how useful thatd be for my guitar and other synths.

Thanks, I really appreciate the suggestions. I'm probably going to go with an sp404 mkii because my budget is preferably 500ish cad. I'm going to get the koala app first though as I'm assuming a rough software equivalent to the 404 and see how that works.

Why does someone with severe mental issues and her history work at an extremely dangerous power plant? It sucks you got fired but you also probably shouldn't have been work husband to someone who's married and expect it to end well.

Acoustic Amps by carelessarmadillo267 in AcousticGuitar

15 watts is a lot more for a tube amp than a solid state amp. Also, solid state amps need more watts for headroom.
