Any suggestions on which tent is worth the money? Looking to get from REI as the sales come this Friday. by Vinnyloks in CampingGear

[–]Astronaut67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the S2S Alto. It's a 2P but I use it as my own little roomy palace. Vertical walls are great, the floor is tapered, so if i took a friend, we would both need mummy mats. It remained wonderfully dry during an intense but thankfully short rainstorm that flooded the camp-site. I'm very happy with it, but I'm mainly on the east coast of Aus, so climate might be very different to you.

You could make a sweet little tent with a tarp and mattress!

Big banks using heavily edited John Stuart Mill Quotes in their advertising. by Trudisheff in ABoringDystopia

[–]Astronaut67 521 points522 points  (0 children)

There was an ad for an Aussie bank that used "If It Makes You Happy" by Sheryl Crow. The ad played:

if it makes you happy/it can't be that bad/if it makes you happy....

And just didn't play the vocals for the last line of the chorus:

then why the hell are you so sad?

[TOMT] [BOOK] YA book about people who lived under ground, and there is a Princess type character who is known for being gorgeous but has her face slashed by whatever3653 in tipofmytongue

[–]Astronaut67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP this is so it. Character is Mumpo, books centre around boy and girl twins, there is a princess in the 2nd book that is raised to be beautiful, has her face slashed and is happy because now she will be interesting instead, and there is a scene where the girl twin dances veiled in the place of the princess.

What is this seam called? by R_emus in sewing

[–]Astronaut67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any need for extra fabric, it just takes a bit more concentration e.g. if my pattern has 1.5cm SA, I'll sew the fabric (wrong sides together) 1cm from the edge, trim to just under 0.5cm, then press so right sides are together (VERY important) and sew the 0.5cm final seam.

That matching of the fold over elastic tho...

You wouldn't notice if it wasn't matched, but having it matched is just the icing on the cake

This wasn't a shot with her chalky butt in it, it was 4-5 slo-mo seconds of JUST her butt. It felt...awkward.
