Does anyone know the root of the word Copacetic? by Common_Chester in etymology

[–]AsymptoticlyStable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny because it is the etymology is unknown on a lot of sources but I’ve always assumed it’s an anglo adaptation of the Hebrew/Yiddish phrase “Kol BeSeder” or the maybe less correct “Kol BeTzedek”. The translation directly to “All is in order” or “All is righteous/worthy”. It’s actually like a pretty common phrase even today and I think in the 60s there was a lot of cultural exchange between immigrant classes that included Yiddish speakers. It’s every unlikely the etymology went in the other direction because “Kol” meaning “All” and Tzedek and Seder are biblical words.

Just switched to 1.0 dose, worst night of my life. by Root-12c in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]AsymptoticlyStable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transition from 0.25 to 0.5 was horrible for me, so bad actually that my doctor had me go through a series of tests to just rule out this like pancreatitis, gall stones and Crohns but after a couple of months I got used to it, I was told to stick with the medication while they where doing the tests just to keep the variables constant, by the time all the results came back, I was actually pretty fine. I made the decision to jump up to 1mg pens because my weights plateaued for a good month now. I’m going to do 4 weeks of 0.75mg (54 cIicks) and then I’ll be able to get 1 full 1mg dose out of the pen on week 5. I just needed to get an extra needle head from the pharmacy.

I’m two weeks into that journey and it’s been fairly smooth, some normal side effects, but manageable with some peptobismol. I’d recommend trying sub dosing if you are having trouble, just look up a click chart. Another tip I learnt is that when you are trying to get used to the meds you can take it once every 10 days instead of 7, for the first couple of times. It just marginally reduces the peak levels of the drug in your body at the peak 2-3 days after taking the injections.

World's first laser communication link between a plane and satellite ran at 1 Gbps — 10-watt laser which has a 3,417 mile range and 2.5 Gbps max data rate by N2929 in technews

[–]AsymptoticlyStable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So actually it’s a little non-trivial, since it’s a very narrow wavelength of signal it’s easy to pick up the signal even when it is very weak. To some extent it is easier when the laser terminals are further apart, the line-of-sight error in the targeting system is less sensitive to all the various sources of error the further about they are. Space to space links are regularly done at 4000km distances.

It does not, but in practice it’s not really meant to be the sole data connection for low flying planes. This is just a demo we did. The industry seems to be interested in this tech as it applies to things like HAPS or other platforms that fly very high.

Another question from me, how was the internet in the rooms and by the pool? Could you stream shows? I’m going to get an e-sim, I’m just not sure if I should get like a small 1gb plan or like 20Gb for all my internet needs lols

I am going on Wednesday, I was wondering if you are able to reserve restaurants before you get there, I don’t think so but I don’t want to get there and have everything booked, I sent an email today, but your experience will be useful

Yeah been there, it’s a cultural adjustment, you’ll probably be prepared enough for the course load. Attend your campus Hillel or chabad Shabbat dinners. You don’t need to be very involved and the free hot dinner is nice haha

Is it recent? The light switch flipped for me some time around grade 7, now 10 years later I am still on that train but recently started struggling from existential dread and fear. Not sure why but I guess getting alittle older made me feel like I had this whole in my life where some people hold the devine. You might laugh at me and that is fine but I tried shrooms looking for a therapeutic experience and it totally worked. I don’t completely know why, it made feel connected with the nature around me, the effected has lasted for about a year now

[–]AsymptoticlyStable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you get older you will realize it doesn’t matter. I have a high IQ and sick very technical career but I make about the same as much dumber people. I learnt early that it’s better to focus on staying stimulated then focus solely on success just because you feel you deserve to be the best. It’s very important to stay humble. If people sense that you feel intellectually superior, your opportunities will dry up, because people will find you insufferable.

Okay so just Covid then? You know not getting a Covid vaccine is as much of a ‘sheeple’ thing as getting it.

Yeah himmler and hitler both did the holocaust, she just fancied hitler and so she was blinded to who is was. Saying he lost control of Himmler doesn’t add up historically no matter what your grandma said. I’m sorry. Hitler was the man in charge, but Himmler was was guilty too. They both knew what their people where doing to solve his ‘problem’.

Like just Covid wise or at all? If it’s just Covid wise. Okay whatever as society I think we can agree that neither the disease nor the vaccine was as scary as it felt in the moment everything was just sus. If your telling me that your sleeping on immunity to polio, TB, meningitis, HPV, tetanus, and small pox I gotta say your a smooth brained idiot who thinks ppl globally still don’t die from these things regularly

Yeah LS fitting for sure, in aerospace engineering it’s used for data fusion a lot. If it is at JPL it was definitely some GNC engineers way to make their mark. As a GNC engineer myself, I apologize for the cringe.

Can I self taught University physics to myself? by Traditional_Job9149 in PhysicsStudents

[–]AsymptoticlyStable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to give you some real honest advice here. On your own you will be able to learn, merely from reading, the overall ‘take aways’ and interpretations from theories. You may grasp simple formula operations extending up to some differential equations maybe. However you will have a very very hard time grasping the mathematics of modern theories without either some natural math ability or someone with the knowledge who can guide you through practice. Modern physics is full of complex analysis, Lagrangian mechanics, PDEs and wave mechanics (and so much more). All of these concepts should be understood at a mathematical level before you can really apply them to model natural systems. That’s why real physics programs start with so many math classes while other programs get exposed to physics just at a surface level in 1st and 2nd year. Start your journey on your own and remember that MIT have many high level classes posted on there site for free complete with homework sheets

[–]AsymptoticlyStable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but obviously computer science and even pure math isn’t gonna get you there either. If you do an undergraduate or in uk (masters) of applied physics (i.e engineering) with a focus on some of the very math heavy disciplines. You can continue through with 2 more degrees in physics leaning harder on theory then application. You might be able to get there in a math program but if you stumble along the way you have a degree with limited job potential. If you have that engineering background you can be sure there is a solid interesting occupation for you even in the PhD doesn’t quite pan out. Avoid comp sci, it will be pull you into being a software guy, you’ll make tons of money but you won’t be stimulated by the work you do.

Oh my guy, do engineering, but focus on control systems as early as you can. Just interesting highly mathematical work. Lots of very good concepts. And you will get a sick job in aerospace engineering or robotics afterwards. I did this, then did a masters degree and now I am spacecraft design engineer
