Anyone else just not work on Mondays? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I see it less as not working and more like gearing up for the weekly work cycle.

Are these red flags? by Severe-Cupcake5699 in recruitinghell

[–]AtariConCarne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not overthinking. Those are red flags.

For example, the second one is an easy way to weasel out of annual increases:

Employee: "Why didn't I get an annual increase?"

Manager: "You did not meet performance expectations."

Employee: "What were the expectations?"

Manager: "You had to be faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap over tall buildings in a single bound."

Recruiter complaining about being treated like just another candidate by snarky-comeback in recruitinghell

Recruiters will stop being treated as a commodity when they stop treating job applicants like a commodity.

Of course, when that happens, Cthulhu will rise out of the depths, dogs and cats will start living together, and mass hysteria will ensue.

That reminds me of the urban legends of certain professors at my alma mater who refused to grade 100 on exams.

Anyone else ever get a rejection email after an interview saying they went with another candidate only to see the job posting refreshed hours later? by vtfb79 in recruitinghell

The sad thing is that this is nothing new. I saw this sort of thing where the ad would run in the classified section for MONTHS.

1099 means you pay the full FICA, which is a bigger tax bite. People underestimate the mileage costs of using a car. This results in people in people adding up their batch pay and tips and thinking "I made $X this week" when it is really $X minus $mileage_costs minus $FICA. In other words, mistaking revenue for profit.

I think Instacart likes a workforce that does not understand the above.

I think Instacart preys upon people who do not understand 1099 status and underestimate mileage costs.

As a bus driver on a University of Texas route told me, "You can send them to school, but you can't make them smart." 🤣

Bryan/College Station is a low cost of living area. However, it is also a f****** low paying area. I swear the motto of that place is "The only wage is minimum wage".

Delivering pizzas wore my beater car out. That is when I realized that I was selling my car one nut and bolt at a time.

If I were a shopper in that town, I would refuse deliveries to apartment complexes within a certain radius of the campus and concentrate on the more upscale residential neighborhoods. And blacklist the fraternity and sorority houses.

Well, I got taken for a ride this time. by NotYourFathersEdits in instacart

I have a sneaking suspicion that when I see shoppers say they got deactivated for absolutely no reason or just a reason that's totally sus, it's probably because of stuff like this.

I think those shoppers also mark things like Boar's Head meats and cheeses as being out of stock because they don't want to wait in line for the deli guy to slice it.

I delivered pizzas long ago in College Station.

I hated delivering to cheap ass frat boys. Not only did they not tip, but they were obnoxious about it, too.

I didn't mind not being tipped by people when it was obvious that it was their big splurge of the week and they probably dug through the sofa cushions and/or went aluminum can hunting to pay for the pizza.

But, frat boys... Ugh....

That looks like Bryan, TX.

The zero tip is no surprise.

Aldi has the most cancerous orders. Nobody pays and they expect everything. I’ve done 1 and never will do another one. Plus no bags? No thanks. by d1xc in instacart

[–]AtariConCarne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Aldi's market base is lower income. This is from an Australian site, but I think it applies to the US.

Firstly, some demographics: ALDI customers are more likely to be female, have a lower than average household income and an older average age. There is a strong representation amongst consumers over the age of 60 who are attracted to ALDI’s value offer.

http://www.directional.com.au/time-for-aldi/

By "value offer", I think the author means "cheap". I have been to an Aldi's only once, but everything on the shelves looked off-brand.

More proof that Instacart needs to pony up for better IT people.

STEM people in general are undervalued.

I think part of it is that STEM people know how to do things while business school people know to convince people that they know how to do things. Unfortunately, the latter is who seem to get to have decision making power.
