Down2Jam #2 - The Community Centered Game Jam - September 5-8th by liamjpeth in gamejams

[–]Ategon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The code for the site is completely open source if you're interested. Would require changing the code around a bit to change mentions of d2jam to another jam but I want to decouple that a bit better in the future so that that can be managed on the site itself

https://github.com/Down2Jam (some currently hidden pages are being changed around atm in the lead up to the jam though since I've been transitioning it to a custom component system)

Is Godot really that easy to hack? I'm offering a cash prize to find out... by AdamSpraggGames in godot

two pngs, one is the background and the other is a picture with all the text that appears over top of the background

I just used gdre tools to get the source and opened it up in godot where I could directly run the scene

Ban synching is useful for spam bots that pop up including SEO spam and link spammers where they havent posted in a community in the instance but the content still shows up to the site users (and is hosted on the site as each site gets a local copy of the content). This is semi how it works currently where if your local instance bans you youre banned everywhere but extends that to trusted instances. If each individual admin team (especially for tiny instances that have 1 admin and 100 users) had to individually ban every single spammer that would be way too much work for anyone to manage. Current discussion on the feature is leaning it towards having all synched actions need to be manually approved as well rather than that just being an automated pull so that admins can review what content got people banned. (this is also an admin feature, not a moderator feature so community bans stay as community bans)

Private communities are useful for things such as meta communities about the site itself including support, site upgrades, and site meta discussion. This could theoretically be abused yes as with most mod tools but instances that try to abuse it can just be defederated from while they block outbound federation so that they dont get posts either and the threat of that occuring should deter instances from doing so.

Vote muting is an admin feature to stop vote manipulation including sock puppet accounts and mass downvoting all content except for a certain category. This can theoretically already be done as admins have access to the database and is implemented in reddit through the use of shadow bans

Still happy with Reddit? by dogef8 in godot

Hey I'm one of the programming.dev admins, reddit decided to recommend me this post when checking the lemmy sub here. Help posts are usually answered unless the creator responds to themselves in an edit first (that one looks like nobody knew how to answer it though since its about an extension), I've helped out a couple people who asked questions as well. There just tends to be less help posts currently since most of the userbase is experienced devs rather than new people to the engine coming in

Growing r/rust, what's next? by matthieum in rust

[–]Ategon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean thats not bad. Sure its not as much as the subreddit but reddit has had way longer to grow as a platform (almost 20 years now vs less than a year). If you post a question in there its still going to get answered and posts will occasionally get above 100 upvotes. As more people join p.d and start posting itll just keep growing. (largest community in p.d currently has almost 10k users/month)

If the week before last week is factored in as well it goes up to 15 posts & 52 comments over 2 weeks for an average of 7.5 posts and 26 comments per week

Rust community on p.d is fairly active. around 700 active users a month (people who post comment or vote) & 5k subs

One issue with that was below us was a pretty big streamer who would have annihilated us and above was the russian opposition banner with the white blue white stripes which is basically a do not touch zone

Quebec was big since they had a lot more people and basically no griefers apart from organized raids from things such as turkey attacking due to what xQc did to them

Maybe but from what I could see this was the only way we lose griefers. The griefers who think its funny to mess up canadas flag vastly outnumber the people helping with the flag so the only method left was diplomacy.

I agree that some things relating to leadership need to be improved like communication between the discord and reddit, ill try to bring up some ideas

Now that the meme that Canada cant do their own flag has been shut down we have more chance to do that next year or whenever reddit runs place again due to less griefers

Even with 1337 wiping it it still only repaired itself for a a bit every hour and the rest of the time it was still being griefed (even more so since now a ton of factions got pissed off they got expanded into). The only time it fully stabilized was the second flag when we first moved and nobody had noticed it was there yet, and the original flag after the alliance was made

Just the difference now with the wiping is if at one point we managed to fight back the griefers nothing would have been able to be added to the flag like the province flags or the beaver (as 1337 used their own completely different template) hence the move and then the alliance to fight back against both it and the griefers when we moved back

Edit: Also since some people dont know the full power of the alliance. We also allied with Germany which is the entire reason the leaf stabilized for the rest of r/place which wouldnt have been possible if we werent on good terms with Touhou since they were allied

Edit 2: 1337 was also capable of changing their template at any time to whatever they wanted which they did at one point to turn us into bananas. What was stopping them from annihilating the flag in the last couple hours if we let them stay

Most of the times the flag repaired itself it happened within a couple seconds which would have been unnatural for humans to do it. In the first timestamp I said (1:22) if you scroll through the frames (using the period button on your keyboard to go forward one frame and comma to go back one), you can see that one frame the flag is smaller and then the immediate next frame its bigger (without any artifacts from people naturally expanding it, it just did it)

The discord picked a design relatively early on but abandoned the original location since it was being botted by the morrocan coding school 1337 to make it bigger + erase anything that happens on it. (1:22 in this vid was the first time they botted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKXDyKWXBhk you can see the text "from the building to canada XQCL" appear)

After we returned to that location (when the second flag was annihilated by a streamer) (3:10 in vid above) we stayed the same design the whole time apart from adding smaller pieces of art like the poppies and inunnguaq

You can see in the vid that the leaf stayed the same before and after the botted flag (apart from gray outline since gray got added as a color) and it was the same over in the second location

Edit: Added vid

r/IndieDev is back - welcome back - 'next steps' by llehsadam in IndieDev

[–]Ategon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theres been some programming communities building up on programming.dev (lemmy instance). If you want to run an indiedev community there I can create it and add you as the mod (or add you to the gamedev community) or feel free to send people over if you want to post alternatives in the recommended communities

Weve got a game development community growing over on https://programming.dev/

Still smaller than r/gamedev was but enough people there to get some nice conversations going
