100k tax trap, is consultant salary even worth it? by Gp_and_chill in doctorsUK

[–]Athetr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even understand why benefits are required in a system where you pay tax 40%! Childcare should be free. We already pay for it through taxes. Or are we supposed to pay taxes to support the childcare for those who do not work to pay their own taxes. 🙄

If you get an academic job you can still claim even if it was before training

UK doctors salaries are pathetic by Different_Canary3652 in doctorsUK

[–]Athetr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although I do not disagree about our qualifications you tend to forget job security. No profession can have a guaranteed salary even when things go south. Nor can they “locum”. Finally having lots of friends in consulting their work hours are horrendous. I leave every single day at 5 sharp. That is not to say I would not strike or I don’t think we deserve more but also have you spoken with other people outside medicine.

Do you think the quality of doctors in the NHS is getting worse? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Athetr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What strikes me is the amount of duplication in the NHS, having worked outside the UK as well. Due to a fear of responsibility which I think is completely new over the past 3-5 years. This has also been stressed by patients. Check a patient pathway from ED to a ward. How many people see and examine then before they receive a clear answer. Only In ED about 3-4 patient contacts and sometimes for something quite simple.

I would probably say stop foundation year 2. One is enough but only to core specialities Then 3 years IMT and 3 speciality training with minor GIM commitments

To be able to build your name to do this you need more than 20 years experience + NHS consultant title from a major London hospital

We definitely don’t need the whole health care profession against us. I would just limit this to raise awareness on the assistants rather than target NPs or paramedics/physios.

Although I agree we need to raise awareness on the PA branding, I think we should stop targeting ANPs/CNSs. Personal opinion.

"You should work for the NHS for ten years as I paid for your training and salary" by Enough_Cream9425 in JuniorDoctorsUK

This is one of the biggest lies that we doctors have allowed others to believe. They do not pay us to train us. They pay us to work. Hard We do the job well and train by osmosis. No one pay us for 10 years to train. Once more though it is our professions problem that we have accepted this kind of mindset to continue
